So, how’s your life going? Are you reaching all of your goals and aspirations? Most importantly, are you happy? Today is Evaluate Your Life Day, an October 19 holiday. This day is a little bit scary and intimidating. It sounds just a little bit too serious for my liking. And, what if I evaluate my life, and find out that I don’t like it? Well, for starters, once you’ve assessed how your life is going, you can then make positive changes, if necessary.

Don’t spend this holiday listening to your boss drone on and on. Rather, go after your dreams. Evaluate Your Life Day allows us to pause and reflect upon our life, where it’s been, and where it’s going. C’mon, be honest with yourself. Are things going well? What is bothering you? What do you need, or want, to change? How’s your appearance? Are you gaining too much weight?

With a self-evaluation, you can then make big changes to improve the quality of your life, as necessary. Or, if things are going well, just tinker with small adjustments.

We believe that  Evaluate Your Life Day is the beginning of a happier and healthier you!

Emergency Nurses Day recognizes an important caregiver. They provide comfort and care to people who are seriously hurt or ill, and in need of urgent care. These nurses are highly trained to provide medical support to people during emergency room visits. According to the Emergency Nurse’s Association “this holiday salutes the dedication and commitment of emergency nursing professionals, who bring care, comfort, and compassion to patients.”

These nurses see it all. And, often it “ain’t good”. Yet, they return to work, knowing they make a difference to sick, injured, and sometimes dying people that enter the ER every day.

This holiday is held during Emergency Nurses Week.

We certainly hope that ER nurses everywhere enjoy their day.

Today is National Do Something Nice Day, an October 5 holiday. Do you want to put a smile on someone’s face? Then go ahead, do something nice, anything nice. And, do it to, or for, another individual. It won’t hurt……we promise.

Doing something nice for someone almost always evokes a very pleasant response. At the very least, it results in a smile. More likely, that person will do something nice to, or for you. And, best of all, doing something nice just might be contagious.

 Even if people call you “the nicest guy (or gal) I know”, there’s always something else you can do to be nice. Try singling out a complete stranger and do something nice for them. 

Dictionary Day, an October 16 holiday, is in honor of Noah Webster, considered the Father of the American Dictionary. Noah Webster was born on October 16, 1758.

The objective of this day is to emphasize the importance of dictionary skills, and seeks to improve vocabulary.

Webster began to write his dictionary at the age of 43. It took him 27 years to finish it! In addition to traditional English vocabulary, it contained uniquely American words.

Celebrate Dictionary Day by reading the “Good Book”……the Dictionary! We challenge you to learn some new words today.

National Custodial Workers Day is today, an October 2 holiday. Give your custodial worker a big thanks. At your school, church, place of employment, and a variety of other places, your custodial support are silently at work all year long. Indeed, they are the workers who clean and keep in good repair, the facility that you enjoy. Janitors seldom get recognition. Yet, they are usually in the background or “behind” the scene.

Take a minute on this day, to seek out custodial workers at your facility. Give them a big “TY” for all that they do to keep the facility sparkling and running like a top.

While we don’t usually give it a thought, a custodian of children or special needs adults are also custodial workers. So, let’s give them a big “TY” today, too.

Curious Events Day, an October 9 holiday, kinda peaks one’s curiosity. Why does this day exist? Who created it? What curious events are held today? The questions go on, and on, and on……

If you have a questioning and curious mind, this is your day. It encourages you to hold some kind of event to peak your curiosity. The topics are broad and seemingly endless, from philosophical subjects to the existence of aliens. The only requirement is that the event must tantalize and cater to our curiosity. 

Certainly, as we draw closer to Halloween, there are more and more, strange, odd, and weird happenings.  Frankly, I’m a little curious to find out if this is the cause. At the same time, it is a little eerie.

We are wondering if you will have a happy Curious Events Day. We think you will!

Count Your Buttons Day is today, an October 21 holiday. Aren’t you excited!? The very first question you must be asking is “Why!?” Well, we don’t know why. And, it might be better that we don’t know.

So here it is, staring you in the face. A wild and wacky day with absolutely no history to define its purpose for being. One might suggest that the creator of this wacky day, was himself a bit wacky.

If it’s a rainy day, there might be nothing better to do than count your buttons. After all, didn’t you really want to know how many buttons you own? Amazingly, you’ve gone this far in life without knowing the answer to this vitally important question.

Cookbook Launch Day, an October 12 holiday, is a little-known day designed to launch a new recipe book. Schools, churches, clubs, and a wide range of organizations ask members to donate a recipe for creating their own cookbooks. Working with a publisher, they put a neat cookbook together filled with cherished recipes and publish it for members and friends. New cookbooks are popular for fundraisers.

Traditionally, cookbooks are either printed by a printing company or made on a copier and then put together in a binder of some kind. Nowadays, it’s even easier to create and publish a new cookbook. Online Cookbooks abound and contain virtually any recipe that you are looking for. You can read the recipe from your smartphone as you prepare it. Or, you can print out a single page with the specific recipe you want.

Creating and launching a new cookbook is an exciting event. Surely, there are always a few new recipes to discover in every cookbook. And, it encourages us to try new foods with family and friends. After all, cooks will tell you that you can’t have too many cookbooks.

Did You Know? The cookbook “Form of Cury” was the first recipe book published in the English language. The chefs of King Henry II wrote and published it in 1390.

Today is Come and Take It Day, an October 6 holiday. This day is here for the taking. Grab it. Take it and run with it. We’re sure it’s going to be a great day.

There is a slight difference between the terms “come and get it” and “come and take it”. The first suggests an offer by someone, and therefore, approval to have whatever “it” is.

We’re not sure what you have been looking for. But, today is the day to reach out for it…… to take it. So, use your imagination. But if the taking involves another person in any way shape or form, get their okay before you take it.
