Susan's Chocolate Brownie Recipe

This recipe has been handed down in our family from generation to generation. There must have been a "Susan" in our family, leading to this recipe's name.

From the Kitchen of: Grandma, contributed by Debbie M., Rochester,NY.

Yield: 16 squares


Susan's Chocolate Brownie Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup flour

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

  • 3/4 teaspoon salt (use less if you want)

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1/2 cup shortening

  • 2 eggs

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

  • 2 squares melted chocolate


How to make Susan's Chocolate Brownies:

  1. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.

  2. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside.

  3. In a large bowl, mix in shortening and sugar until light.

  4. Add eggs and vanilla, mix until smooth.

  5. Mix in melted chocolate.

  6. Add in flour mixture from step #1.

  7. Mix until smooth.

  8. Pour batter into a greased cake pan.

  9. Bake for 30 - 35 minutes.
