The flag of Ireland, sometimes referred to as the Irish Tricolour, is green, white, and orange. In 1848, it was given to Thomas Francis Meagher from a group of French women who were sympathetic to Irish nationalism. At the time, Irish people hoped for a union between Catholics and Protestants in the country. It became the national Irish flag in 1916 during the Easter Rebellion against British rule.
