Date When Celebrated: This holiday is always observed on September 11
Make Your Bed Day is a September 11 holiday. Many of us seldom, rarely, or never make up our beds in the morning. If that’s you, you’re in good company. Okay, if company is coming over, mom makes you make your bed. Other than that, you arise each day and leave your sheets and bedding in a crumpled pile, pouring over the side, and onto the floor. Habits form early in life. If your mom and dad never made this a daily requirement, you’re certainly not going to change your ways as an adult.
No one can claim that making the bed is a fun chore. Today is the day to arise and make your bed for a change. Speaking of change, as you celebrate this holiday, it just might be a good idea to change the sheets first.
Here’s a suggestion for those of you who faithfully do this task every day of the year. Take a break. Rename today to be “Don’t Make your Bed Day!“
Did You Know? 76% of us make our beds sometimes. And, 7 of us never make it.
Have a very happy Make Your Bed Day.
The Great Make or Don't Make Your Bed Debate
There is much debate on whether you should make your bed every day or not. Here are the arguments for both sides:
For Making Your Bed:
It creates a neat and tidy appearance if someone comes into your room.
It promotes good habits.
According to researchers, it enhances mental health.
Against Making Your Bed:
It takes time in the morning that is better spent on other activities.
No one can or should go into your room, So, why does it matter?
An unmade bed promotes evaporation of moisture in the sheets and blankets promotes bacteria growth.
How to Celebrate Make Your Bed Day
Participate in this day by making your own bed. Of course, when you do so, crisp military corners are expected. And your mom will be so proud of you!
If you are an adult with a social media account, you can post pictures of your properly made bed, too.

When is Kids Take Over the Kitchen Day? This fun holiday is always observed on September 13
Parents, are you raising a young chef or two? Kids, did you ever think about a career as a chef or some other job in the food service industry? Then, today is your chance to take over the kitchen and cook a meal for the whole family. Today is Kid’s Take Over the Kitchen Day. On this September 13 holiday, kids can prepare breakfast, lunch, or dinner. And, you can make anything you want. It sure sounds like fun to me!
Kids Take Over the Kitchen Day is a really fun day. It’s an opportunity for kids to take charge of a meal, from the planning stage, all the way through to washing the dishes. But parents, hold on a second. You just don’t know how this day is going to turn out. It might be a wonderful day off from kitchen chores for you. Or, there could be smoke coming from the kitchen. You may have to arbitrate a sibling squabble. You also could wind up rewashing the dishes. We’re going to be optimistic and assume the kids will take charge in the kitchen, and you will all enjoy a family meal fit for a king and his family. Just in case, be prepared to order a pizza.
Tip for Today: Remember, you are going to do the dishes, too. We recommend paper plates and disposable silverware.
How to Celebrate Kids Take Over the Kitchen Day
Alright kids, are you ready to get started? If you’re old enough to do this on your own, kick mom and day out of your kitchen and ban them from entering until the dishes are washed, dried, and put away. It’s okay for younger kids to let mom and dad assist if need be. But, remember it’s the kids who are in charge.
Start by planning the meal a couple of days before. Send mom or dad to the store for what you need for the meal. When Kid’s Take Over the Kitchen Day arrives, put up a sign in the kitchen that reads “Kid’s Kitchen”. Include your name on the sign. Prepare and cook the meal. If there is more than one of you, make assignments for who will make what. While the meal is cooking, set the table. After dinner, gather up the dishes. Then, wash, dry, and put the dishes away. Now, congratulations on a job well done!
