Halloween Witches, Evil Sorcerers

Halloween Witches with Cauldron

About Halloween Witches

One of the most well-known characters of Halloween witches are pure evil. It’s important to note that Halloween witches are not the same as witches of the Wiccan religion. Rather, they cast evil spells on unsuspecting people. In the 1800s, the Salem witch trials convicted and put to death many women for practicing witchcraft.

In the sinister netherworld of Halloween, witches are evil. Nah, this is just Halloween malarkey you say! On the contrary, witches are as real as you and me. To make matters worse, they exist in great numbers. Witches are living right among us. Nope, not your mother-in-law. Then again, she just might be. We are talking real, honest-to-goodness broom flying, cauldron brewing, and spell-casting witches.

Did you know? Joan of Ark was condemned as a witch by the English and burned at the stake.

A witch is nothing less than total, evil, and sinister, with a black, and un-remorseful heart. They scheme and plot the use of their sorcery and black magic. Witches use their black magic on innocent and unsuspecting victims. They invoke their evil spell and potions for simple perverse pleasure. They often use witchcraft against someone who did nothing more than cross their path or irritate them in any way.

But can witches be good? Yes, absolutely! We have Glinda the good witch in the “Wizard of Oz” as proof positive.

It wasn’t just witches. Males were also accused of practicing witchcraft. even though we don’t wee as many warlocks, they are out there. And, they have a book full of evil spells and potions. Find out more about Warlocks.

Salem Witch Trials, witchcraft, Halloween witches

The Salem Witch Trials

Witches are well-documented throughout history. And, we are not speaking to the evil Halloween witches. Rather, we are talking about generally normal women. Yet, at the time, people feared witches lived among them, casting evil spells and practicing witchcraft. The Salem Witch Trials of the 1800s are proof positive of their existence. They were proven to be witches in a court of law. Many of the accused even admitted their guilt. Back then, if convicted, witches were hung.  Sometimes, they were burned at the stake. It was a difficult time. Anyone could accuse someone of being a witch. And, you could not say a word in defense of the accused. If you did, you could be accused of being a witch or a warlock.

Learning from the experience of the Witch trials, witches have become much craftier and more reclusive. They have also learned to disguise the truth about themselves. A crafty witch is often pleasant looking, to outright beautiful. They disguise who they really are. With the added stealth, and a modern society that does not put witches on trial, their numbers are increasing at an alarming rate.

Hot News!! On November 1st, 2001, Salem, Massachusetts cleared 20 people of being witches. These people were convicted and executed for being witches during the infamous Salem Witch trials in the 1800s.

Wiccan, A Good Witch or Warlock

During Halloween, the focus is upon evil Halloween witches. However, there are plenty of good Wiccan witches and warlocks. They are good, honest people like you and me. They are not the evil, sinister spell crafters of fictitious Halloween lore. A good witch practices witchcraft of a different kind. Their spells and potions are for doing good. Here are some well-known real and fictitious good witches:

  • We have Glinda the good witch in the “Wizard of Oz” as proof positive.
  • As previously mentioned, Joan Of Arc was convicted of witchcraft.
  • The 60’s Tv show Bewitched featured a lovable and good, witch Samantha Stevens. As for her mother, however…….
  • Sabrina the Teenage Witch was most definitely good-natured and loved by all (Wiccans and non-believers)

Witches of Ancient Wiccan Religion

Witch Stirring Cauldron, Witchcraft

About the Witches of Ancient Wiccan Religion

Wiccan is an ancient pagan religion. As a matter of fact, it’s one of the oldest religions in history. Members of the Wiccan religion call themselves witches. They are well documented throughout history. Witchcraft is magical power that witches and warlocks have. Most important, many people believe these magical powers come from evil spirits. Throughout history many parts of the world considered witchcraft to be evil. For hundreds of years the Catholic church sought to root out witches, and untold thousands were burned at the stake.

But there is also the good witchcraft. The perfect example of this is a love potion. A witch can concoct a love potion that when given to someone will cause the person drinking it to fall in love with the giver.

In recent times, many perceive the Wiccan religion and witches as good witches. This is especially true of organized Wiccan groups in America and Europe.

Perhaps one of the most infamous documentation of the existence of witches was at the Salem Witch Trials in the 1800s. Unfortunately, at the time, witchcraft was considered evil. A court of law convicted the witches of performing illegal witchcraft. Many of the accused, even admitted their guilt.

Hot News!! On November 1st, 2001, Salem, Massachusetts cleared 20 people of being witches. These people were convicted and executed for being witches during the infamous Salem Witch trials in the 1800s.

Did you know? The English government captured Joan of Ark and condemned her as a witch. Then, she was burned at the stake condemned as a witch.

Halloween Wiccan Holidays

Annual Wiccan Holidays for Witches and Warlocks

Witch Stirring Cauldron, Witchcraft

About Wiccan Holiday Calendar

Witches and Warlocks have a right to enjoy holidays too. Altogether, there are eight holidays on the Wiccan Calendar. These Wiccan holidays are called “Sabbats”. The New Year’s begins on October 31st, Halloween night. It is important to note, that witches and warlocks celebrate their holidays from sundown on the date of the holiday through sundown the next day.

Did you Know? Witches and Warlocks in the Southern Hemisphere celebrate opposite holidays. They celebrate Winter Solstice as we celebrate Summer Solstice. Their Spring Equinox is our Fall Equinox. And, so forth.

Wiccan Holiday Sabbats

Witch with Cauldron, Wiccan Calendar, Sabbats

New Year’s Day is October 31st at sundown   It is also known as Samhain or All Hallow’s Eve. This is New Year on the Druid calendar. The wall between earth and the underworld is thin at this time of year. On Halloween night, the wall opens. Shortly, Samhain, the Lord of Darkness, rises from the underworld. Thereupon, he roams the world looking for lost souls. It is an evil and wicked night.

Winter Solstice (December 21st) This Wiccan holiday is also known as Yule. This is the shortest day of the year. And, conversely, the longest night. Witches and warlocks celebrate the birth of the Sun God. Wiccan celebrations include Yule logs, Yule trees, and Mistletoe. Sounds a little like Christmas, huh!?! Winter Solstice.

Imbolic February 2 This holiday honors Brigid, the goddess of fertility, fire, and healing. It is a time of increasing strength for the sun god. This Wiccan holiday coincides with Candlemas and Ground Hog’s Day.

Ostara March 21st This sabbat on the Witch’s calendar is the Spring Equinox. At this point, we honor Oestra, the German goddess of Fertility. Spring Equinox.

Beltane May 1st Previously celebrated on May 5, Beltane was moved to May 1st to coincide with May Day. This high holiday celebrates the god and goddess of fertility. Eggs are a sign of fertility and a symbol of this day. Hence, early summer warmth is in the air.

Summer Solstice or Litha June 21st This day celebrates the sun god at his highest point. Nighttime has been dominated by daylight. Daylight continues to dominate over darkness until the Feast of Mabon. More on Summer Solstice.

Lammas or Harvest Eve July 31st This sabbat celebrates the first harvest.

Feast of Mabon September 21st The Autumn equinox has arrived. On the Wiccan holiday calendar, we celebrate the birth of Mabon, the son of Mordon, the Goddess of the earth. It is also the harvest festival. More on Autumn Equinox.

Halloween Party Name Game

Warlock Lightning. Halloween Party Name Game

About the Halloween Party Name Game

The Halloween Party Name Game is wildly popular for partygoers of all ages. Here’s a party game that is fun for any party. Use it at the start of a party to “warm up” the guests as soon as they begin to arrive. It allows them to mingle and get to know one another.

Age Group: Kids, teens, and adults enjoy playing.

Game Objective: To guess who “you” are, the name on your back.

All you need is:

  • 3x 5 cards
  • Marking Pen (medium or wide point)
  • Safety Pins

Before the party, print neatly the name of a person or character associated with Halloween onto a 3×5 card.

You can use any names associated with Halloween. Try Freddie Kruger, Buffy the Vampires Slayer, Frankenstein, and Casper the Friendly Ghost.

Use a different name on each card.

Make up enough cards for more than each person invited to the party, especially for kids. This can be such a fun game, that party participants often want to play it more than once.

Upon arriving, use a safety pin to put one card on each guest’s back. Do not tell them who is on the card.

When is Frankenstein Friday

How to Play the Halloween Name Game

  1. You can ask only one question of a guest, before moving to another guest to ask a question.

  2. Only “Yes” and “No” answers can be given.

  3. Laughing, facial expressions, etc. are certainly allowed.

  4. Look for questions which will quickly narrow the quest such as:

    1. Am I a male(or female)?
    2. Am I a real person(versus fictional character)?
  5. If a guest guesses too quickly, give them another name tag.
