Easter Egg Traditions
Since early times, the egg has been a symbol of rebirth. Many cultures decorated and exchanged eggs during early springtime.
Poland: There is a Polish tradition to crack Easter eggs for good luck. Take a hard-boiled and decorated egg. Challenge someone to crack them. Have the person hold the egg with one end up. Then, take your egg and crack it on their egg. The one whose egg does not crack is the winner and will get good luck, while the loser must eat the broken egg. The winner can then take on all challengers. The most pointed end of the egg is usually the best end to use.
Painting Easter Eggs began in the Ukraine. The Ukrainians are known for beautiful and elaborately painted eggs. In America, adults and children enjoy coloring and painting hard-boiled eggs for Christmas. It’s a tradition similar to carving or decorating pumpkins.

Boil eggs well. Place eggs in cold water. Let the water come to a boil, then lower it to a slow boil for ten minutes.
After cooking, put the eggs in the refrigerator until ready to use. Boiling eggs removes the protective coating applied by producers, making them more susceptible to bacteria.
When decorating, take a few out of the refrigerator at a time.
Decorate and put them back into the refrigerator as soon as possible.
