According to its creator, Wellcat.com, Cook Something Bold Day is designed to encourage us to cook something bold and daring, that will fill up the house with warm, “homey” odors. It is celebrated in November, as houses are closed up for the winter, and capture the cooking smells.

This is not a day to prepare something simple and easy to make. Rather, it is a day to be daring. Also, in keeping with the concept for this day you get bonus points for cooking something that fills the house with pleasant aromas.

It is oh so easy to celebrate and participate in Use Your Common Sense Day. All you have to do is stop for a moment and use your head before proceeding with whatever you are going to say or do. It’s as easy as that.

Today is Cliché Day, a November 3 holiday. So, what are we supposed to do with this day? There is no information or documentation on this day. The creator of Cliché Day is not known. As a result, we do not know whether to celebrate clichés and use them often, or whether this is a day to refrain from their use. The most likely intent is to celebrate tired, old, worn-out clichés. It certainly is much more fun to celebrate things, than to abstain from them. So, let’s use this special day to celebrate clichés!!

As you probably already know, a chia pet is a terracotta figurine (it’s really a form of a planter) that grows chia plants in the grooves of its outer surface. Caregiver Appreciation Day, a November 13 holiday, is a very important day. It gives recognition to the tens of millions of Americans, who selflessly give their time to care for those who are ill, disabled, or elderly.

Many individuals and organizations have declared a caregiver recognition day on many different dates. The most common of them is November 13, and March 3. We give the nod to November 13, as November is National Caregiver Appreciation Month.

This day of recognition is for both paid and unpaid caregivers. We believe unpaid caregivers, deserve even more special recognition. They silently go about the task of supporting someone in need, most often a family member. They give their time freely and often spend their own money in doing so. It can be a thankless task….. without even thanks from the person being cared for or from relatives who find countless reasons not to help.

Some interesting statistics:

• 29% of the U.S. population, some 65 million Americans are caregivers in some way. This is an astonishing number.

• According to the U.S. Department of Labor, over 40 million Americans, age 15 or older, provide unpaid care to the elderly alone. 

Are you tired of the commercialism of Christmas? Are you repulsed by the shopping madness of Black Friday? Then, this special day is for you. Buy Nothing Day is a 2-day, 48-hour holiday shopping moratorium. Basically, this holiday is a clear protest against the commercialism of this most sacred holiday. According to Adbusters Media Foundation, this holiday is a “celebration of simplicity about getting our runaway consumer culture back onto a sustainable path.”

Is Buy Nothing Day effective? Do people abstain from buying things on this day? Perhaps not. Of course, one look at the crowds in the malls will tell you the answer. Because, at least it gives us pause to reflect upon the true meaning of Christmas. And, that’s a really good thing.

This special day is always held on the day after Thanksgiving. Black Friday is a day when retailers offer huge discount pricing on many, if not all, items in their store. These Black Friday deals and doorbusters sales drive huge numbers of Christmas shoppers out to cash in on the great, lowest-of-the-year prices. Retail Black Friday deals begin as early as the stroke of midnight. Nowadays, many stores start even earlier, opening up late in the afternoon of Thanksgiving before the dinner dishes are washed and dried.

Traditionally, Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving. It is one of the two busiest shopping days of the year. In case you didn’t know, the other busiest shopping day is the day after Christmas. The day after Christmas, throngs of shoppers on holiday vacation, mob the stores to use gift certificates they received, and to exchange merchandise.
