About Hangover Day

When is International Hangover Day? This holiday is celebrated on the day after International Beer Day.

What happens the morning after you’ve had too much to drink? That right, you get a walloping hangover. So, it only makes sense that International Hangover Day is the day after International Beer Day.

Aaah yesterday was so much fun. You had a great time celebrating International Beer Day, at least what you remember of it. The pounding headache, queasy stomach, and spinning room, is a sure sign that International Beer Day although lots of fun, is over, and International Hangover Day has painfully arrived. Bring out the aspirin, tomato juice, and a bit of the “dog that bit you”.

Important Note About the Date:  We want to make certain you celebrate this month on the correct day. This holiday is the day after International Beer Day, which is the first Friday in August. A few internet websites report this holiday as the first Saturday in August. This is not always correct. If International Beer Day falls on the seventh day of the month, then International Hangover Day falls on the second Saturday of the month.

History and Origin of International Hangover Day

We researched this holiday deeply but did not positively identify the creator of this holiday. But, we are pretty sure we know who did. Follow our logic……..

It is very clear that the Association of California Brewers created International Beer Day in 2007, in Santa Cruz, California. We also know that International Hangover Day was created shortly after, and is established as the day after International Beer Day.  Both days are called “international” days. International Bat Night

Clumsy Halloween Bats

About International Bat Night

When is International Bat Night? This holiday is celebrated on the last Saturday evening of August

International Bat Night is celebrated as an evening event. The honorees are bats, who sleep during the daytime and are active at night. If you’re going to seek out bats, nighttime is the time to look. With over 1,100 species, bats live up to 30 years and can be found all over the world. Bats most often live in caves. But as you know, you can also find bats “in the belfry”.

According to EUROBATS, a European conservation and protection group, tonight is set aside to promote and enjoy these nocturnal creatures. The goal of International Bat Night is to educate people on the good things about bats and to dispel false rumors and myths. EUROBATS encourages bat conservation groups to put on educational programs and “bat walks” on International Bat Night. This night also serves to promote conservation for bats and their habitat.

As nocturnal creatures, bats use “echolocation” to fly around in the dark without hitting things. They emit a sound inaudible to human ears and listen to the echo return to help them navigate in the dark. It is also one of the ways that bats find their food. Tops on their menu are mosquitoes. If you like to enjoy warm summer nights, bats are your friend, helping to keep the mosquito population in check. Bats consume up to 1,100 mosquitoes per hour! While we may not want to talk about it, bat guano is one of the best manure fertilizers for your flower and vegetable garden plants.

See now, bats are not so bad….. until Halloween. See Halloween Bats

After just learning about the good things about bats, you may still be a little leery or afraid of bats. If so, you have “Chiroptophobia”, the fear of bats….. more phobias

  • Take pictures of them, if you can.

  • Attend an educational seminar or show put on by a bat conservation group.
  • Go on a Bat Walk led by a bat conservation guide.
  • Get on the internet and learn more about bats.
  • Watch Batman or Batwoman programs.

Did You Know? While most bats are small, the largest species is called the “flying fox. It has a wing span of six feet!

History and Origin of International Bat Night

International Bat Night is a special holiday evening created in 1997 by EUROBATS, a European bat conservation group. EUROBATS is very successful in educating people about the good side of bats, correcting misguided and incorrect rumors and myths about bats, and helping to protect and grow the population of bats.

There are now over 30 countries that participate in International Bat Night

Iconic American Restaurants Day

Howard Johnson's Restaurant

When is Iconic American Restaurants Day? This holiday is always celebrated on August 24

Today is Iconic American Restaurants Day. This August 24 holiday celebrates the many great restaurants in this country, and the outstanding staff that works hard to make your dining experience pleasurable. Of particular note today, are those iconic restaurants that have turned off their grills and ovens forever. There probably isn’t a better example of a great iconic American restaurant than Howard Johnson’s, fondly called HoJo’s.

The HoJo’s chain has been around for over 90 years. At its peak, there were over 1,000 company and franchise stores in the U.S. and Canada. The Lake George, NY. restaurant was proudly the “Last One Standing” of the infamous Howard Johnson restaurant chain. It closed in 2021 as a result, partially the result of the COVID pandemic.

During the peak years in the 1940s through the 1970s, travelers sought out the easily recognized orange roof. Without a doubt, travelers knew they would receive high-quality food at reasonable prices. Travelers and residents alike, thronged to HoJo’s ice cream fountain bar with lines out the door during summer months, to choose among the famous “28 flavors”.

Without a doubt the list of great American restaurants is endless. Large, national chains like McDonald’s, Red Lobster, the Outback, Applebee’s, and Chili’s readily come to mind. But, there are also countless one-location restaurants in your local community. Go outside of your town, and no one has ever heard of that great breakfast shop, sidewalk cafe, or Italian restaurant on Main Street that you frequent regularly.

It’s going to be a wonderful experience celebrating Iconic American Restaurants Day. Grab the family or a few friends, and head off to your favorite restaurants for breakfast, lunch, AND dinner. While you’re there enjoying a fabulous meal, make sure to show your appreciation to the waiter, busboy, chef, and manager. After all, it’s their day, too.

How to Celebrate and Participate in Iconic American Restaurants Day

Participation in this day is easy. And, it’s fun. Here are some ideas on how to celebrate and participate in Iconic American Restaurants Day:

  • Visit existing iconic restaurants before they turn off the grills and ovens.
  • Take a picture of you at the restaurant.
  • How many can you name. Play a game to name as many historic restaurants as you can.

HoJo's Restaurant Day

History and Origin of Iconic American Restaurants Day

This special holiday was created in 2020 by Bob Matthews, from Rochester, NY, and creator of HolidayInsights.com. After visiting the “Last One Standing” Howard Johnson’s Restaurant in Lake George, NY, Matthews felt it important to celebrate great American restaurants like HoJo’s and the employees who make them great.

A second, and equally important goal of today, is to capture the memories of one of America’s most iconic restaurants, as well as other great American restaurants that have come and gone. During the Pandemic of 2020, restaurants struggled to survive And like the rest of us, their employees were significantly impacted.

Amazingly, up to now, there were no special holidays recognizing great dining venues and their staff.

Grab Some Nuts Day

When is National Peanuts Day? Grab Some Nuts Day. August 3 holidays.

About Grab Some Nuts Day

When is Grab Some Nuts Day? This holiday is celebrated on August 3

What’s your favorite nut? Is it peanuts, almonds, cashews, or pistachios? Whatever it is, your favorite, grab a handful and chow down as today is Grab Some Nuts Day. One could call this August 3 holiday a truly nutty day for several reasons.

First, let’s explore just what does “nuts” mean? Are we talking about nuts that you eat!? Most likely so. But, we also could be talking about the nuts that go with bolts. Or, perhaps this day is about some of our nutty friends. We’ve all got a few of those. Unfortunately, the creator of this special day is unknown, and he or she has not offered documentation on this special day.

As far as we have discovered, information is very sketchy and only resident on the internet. Internet websites have unanimously assumed that this special day is about the nuts that we eat. So, let’s follow that theme and go grab a handful or two of nuts to eat and enjoy.

Grabbing a bunch of edible nuts poses yet another uncertainty. The problem here is the definition of what is an edible nut. Most of us have heard over and over again, that peanuts are not nuts, they are legumes. But, almost all of us will be amazed to know that technically walnuts, cashews, pistachios, and almonds are not nuts either. Yet, all of us and the food industry refer them to as nuts. So, the whole concept of this special day is more than a little nutty when you stop and think about it.

Well, that is about it in a nutshell. Before you become a complete nut case, we suggest you don’t give it another thought. Rather, go out and have a great Grab Some Nuts Day.

How to Celebrate Grab Some Nuts Day

Here are ways you can celebrate Grab Some Nuts Day:

  • Eat as many different kinds of nuts as you can today.
  • Bring some to work to share with your co-workers.

The earliest reference we found to Grab Some Nuts Day was in 2013. We suspect the holiday is much older.

About World Four Leaf Clover Day

When is Four Leaf Clover Day? This holiday is always celebrated on August 2

Today just might be your lucky day. It is World Four Leaf Clover Day. On this August 2 holiday, your sole objective is to find a four-leaf clover. According to Irish folklore, four leaf clovers will bring you good luck. And, we all could use a little of that. Your search is a daunting one. They are a genetic anomaly. It is estimated that only 1 in 10,000 clover leaves are four-leaved. However, it’s the beginning of August and life slows down at this time of the year. The days are long and the weather is superb. There are not a lot of other things on your calendar this month. So, spending an extended amount of time sprawled out on your lawn with a magnifying glass, is the perfect way to enjoy the picture-perfect summer weather.

And so, the search is on. One of the great things about this search is that everybody can get lucky. Everyone can participate, too. All it takes is for each of us to find our own four leaf clover. Sorry, there is no sharing. You must find one all for yourself. And, you can’t hire or coerce someone else to find it for you. You need to find it yourself. Otherwise, the magic of the four leaf clover will not occur.

Did You Know? Clover plants make great indoor houseplants. They grow well in partial shade and do not require a lot of attention.

How to Preserve a Four Leaf Clover

Here are four ways to preserve your lucky four-leaf clover:

  • Press it into a book just like you would a rose or flower.
  • Laminate it.
  • Encase it in clear tape. The packing tape is just about the right size.
  • Frame it inside a small picture frame. It’s a great way to show off your lucky charm.

Clover Trivia

  • It’s very rare! It is estimated that only 1 in 10,000 clover leaves are four-leaved.
  • The four leaves stand for faith, hope, love, and luck.
  • One plant produces between 14,000 to 350,000 seeds.
  • The seeds remain viable in the soil for up to 14 to 20 years.
  • Seed companies once included clover in grass seed mixtures.
  • The Irish word for clover is “Shamrock”.
  • Shamrocks are not the national symbol of Ireland. Surprisingly, it is the harp.
  • Clover is native to Europe. But, it has spread its roots all over the world.
  • All parts of the clover plant are edible. There are dozens of clover recipes online.
  • It also has medicinal applications.

  • You can conduct your search by yourself, or with friends.
  • Or, you can hold a “Find a Four Leaf Clover” party. Invite a group of friends. Offer snacks and beverages. And, certainly offer a prize to anyone who finds one.

History and Origin of Four-Leaf Clover Day

World Four Leaf Clover Day was created in 2022 by Bob Matthews of HolidayInsghts.com

It is titled a “world” day as clovers are growing all over the world. And, people all over the world have fun looking for a lucky four-leaf clover.

This day was created for several reasons. First, humans always have hope. It drives us forward and keeps us optimistic that our lives will be happy and good. Certainly, finding a lucky four-leaf clover will help us to achieve our dreams. This day was selected, as it is the perfect thing to do on a lazy summer day. And, mid-summer just seems to be a great time to go outdoors for a “treasure hunt”. This holiday can be enjoyed by everyone.

Matthews says he creates very few holidays himself. Certainly, this uplifting day was just waiting to be created. Matthews went on to say he was amazed no one thought to create this special day.
