This is a very old recipe. The original clover leaf rolls recipe calls for shortening in the ingredients. Shortening is not exactly healthy for you. So, we altered the recipe, substituting butter or margarine instead of shortening. And it does not alter the flavor all that much. Making clover leaf rolls from scratch is fairly easy. The finished rolls will resemble a three-leaf clover. You and your family will be glad you made this recipe.
Yield: 12 rolls

Four Leaf Clover Ingredients
1/4 ounce packet of active dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water, 100° F
1 cup whole milk
6 Tablespoons butter or margarine
1/4 cup sugar
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 egg
3 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
vegetable oil spray
How to Make Clover Leaf Rolls Directions
In a medium saucepan, heat the milk until bubbles begin to form. Do not boil it.
Stir in sugar, butter, and salt.
Set aside and allow to cool to 100° F.
In a separate small bowl, add warm water and the yeast. Set aside for 5 minutes.
In a mixing bowl, beat the egg.
Next, stir in the milk mixture.
Then, stir in the water and yeast.
Slowly stir in 1/2 of the flour, stirring until there are no lumps.
Slowly pour in the remaining flour, again stirring until it is a smooth dough.
Lightly spray vegetable oil into a large bowl.
Place the dough in a bowl and lightly spray vegetable oil on top of the dough.
Cover the top of the bowl and allow the dough to double in size. This will take about 2 hours.
Punch or squeeze the dough to deflate it.
Place the dough onto a floured cutting board.
Divide the dough into 36 pieces.
Roll each dough piece into a ball.
Line a muffin tin with muffin cups.
Place three balls into each muffin cup.
Allow it to rise, until doubling in size again. This takes about an hour.
Preheat the oven to 400° F.
Bake in the oven for 12 to 15 minutes until they are golden brown.
