Something’s fishy. That’s because today is International Sushi Day. This holiday is one that sushi lovers will celebrate to the max. However, Sushi is not for everyone. If you don’t like it, you can celebrate by not eating it. Or, you will celebrate one of the other June 18 holidays.

Sushi was created in Japan. But, like other great-tasting foods, the Japanese could not keep this culinary treat a secret within their borders. It is popular around the world.  Sushi is a well-known type of Japanese cuisine, but it is often misunderstood. Most of us think of sushi as finger food containing raw fish. It certainly is finger food. But, there are many types. Not all types contain raw fish. So, we ask that you not hold your nose up to it. Rather, see what non-fish varieties there are and try them. 

This relatively new special day is titled an “International” day. We found very little reference to this day outside of the U.S.

There is only one requirement for this day. Simply eat some sushi.

The weather outside is spectacular. International Picnic Day couldn’t have come at a better time. On this June 18 holiday, it’s wall-to-wall sunshine and warm, with just a slight breeze. Today is a perfect day to go outdoors and have a picnic. It can be in a park, or right in your backyard.

Picnics date back to Medieval times, when outdoor feasts were held to celebrate a successful hunt. They really grew in popularity during the Victorian Era in England.

Picnics are held outdoors from spring through fall. They are enjoyed by everyone. Young lovers with blankets and picnic baskets in hand are frequent sites in parks. Families and groups get together to enjoy picnics to celebrate just about any event, including Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, and family reunions. As a matter of fact, any reason is a good excuse to have a picnic.

Picnic fare commonly includes a meal, snacks, and outdoor games. Common picnic foods include hamburgers, hot dogs, macaroni, potato salad, and baked beans. But, any foods are fair game for your picnic. We suggest you try something a little different at each picnic.

Are you ready to get down and dirty!? Today is International Mud Day. If you’re feeling down, the creators of this day say that wallowing in the mud improves your mood and attitude.  Not convinced? Use this June 29 holiday to test this claim. Immerse yourself in the mud. Roll around in it and see for yourself!

To celebrate this very special day, all you need is some water and some dirt. Mix them together, and you’re ready to have some fun!

International Mud Day is for everyone, both children and the child inside of us. Set aside electronic games. Turn off the television. Set down the smartphone, along with the apps. Today we celebrate these tiny, magical, and mystical beings. Fairies, or Faeries as they are called in some parts of the world, are fascinating to people young and not so young alike. These creatures are elusive and sometimes downright sneaky. And if you catch one, they will bring you luck or fortune. For example, if you are lucky enough to catch a leprechaun, they have to give you their pot of gold.

In some form or another, fairies have captivated us for hundreds of years. Fairies first appeared in European countries back in the Middle Ages. They can also be found in Greek Mythology. Fairies are not limited to children’s fairy tales. And of course, they are real.

There are all kinds of fairies. Perhaps the best known is the tooth fairy, who leaves money under a child’s pillow in exchange for a tooth. Fairies also have many cousins, including dwarfs, elves, pixies, gnomes, and a variety of others. They have a wide variety of varying characteristics and traits. Fairies can be good or bad. They are often mischievous and whimsical.  

Are you up for a fairy tale? Then, take out a book with fairies in it, and let your imagination run wild as you read it.

Insurance Awareness Day has got to be one of your top holidays, right!? Understandably, this holiday doesn’t excite a lot of people. It doesn’t invoke doing fun things. So, you just might be wondering why do we have this June 28 holiday. Good question. While it may not be an exciting topic, having it offers peace of mind. Insurance, be it home, auto, or life insurance, offers you peace of mind that if something happens, you will be financially protected. Of course when it comes to life insurance, if something happens, you won’t be around to worry about the outcome.  

Insurance is a gamble. If you buy it, you’re gambling that something will go wrong. If you don’t buy it, you’re gambling that something will not happen.

With the official start of summer just a few days away. The timing is perfect for National Iced Tea Day. You can make sun tea on this June 10 holiday. Tea is one of the world’s most popular beverages. Tea was discovered in ancient China during the Tang dynasty in 2,737B.C. Iced tea is a great thirst quencher, almost every day all summer long. Iced tea is organic and it’s good for you. 

Chances are, it is already hot in your area. Today serves as a good reminder to make and enjoy your first (of many) iced tea drinks of the season. Unsweetened iced tea has almost no calories, carbs, or salt. Have it plain, add a little lemon, or sweeten it with sugar. Iced Tea is certainly a favorite summer cooler of millions of Americans. And best of all, tea is good for your health!

Today is Ice Cream Soda Day, a June 20 holiday. Also called an “ice cream float”‘ this frosty treat is a great summer treat It’s hot. It’s muggy. And, an ice cream float is a delicious way to cool off.

An ice cream float is simple and easy to make. All you need is a large glass, soda, and ice cream. And, don’t forget the straw. The flavor of ice cream and soda is your choice. Any will do. Chocolate and vanilla are the most popular. But, don’t shy away from being creative by selecting your favorite flavors.

BTW: If you happened to notice, there are numerous “Ice Cream” days this month. We think you will agree that the manufacturers have done a splendid job of promoting their product. And nobody is complaining, as we all love ice cream, especially in the hot summer months.

Today is Hug Your Cat Day. On this June 4 holiday, go ahead and give your cat a big, furry hug.

Cat lovers can really get into this day. If you’re a cat lover, you can really appreciate the warm, cozy feeling you get when you curl up on a couch or chair, and hug your cat. The only problem is, your cat will most likely only allow a brief hug before sauntering away. If your cat is a true hugger, count your blessings.

Dog lovers…sorry, but hugging your dog will not suffice. If you are going to be “into” this day, you simply must hug a cat…your cat.

In addition, feel free to give ethe “big squeeze” to anyone and everyone.
