When is Shark Awareness Day? This holiday is always celebrated on July 14
There are about a billion sharks in the ocean celebrating this holiday. today is Shark Awareness Day. The real goal of this July 14 holiday is to provide education and awareness of the importance of sharks to the ecosystems of our world’s oceans.
Sharks date back 455 million years ago, much farther back than dinosaurs, which roamed the earth a mere 230 million years ago. Along the way, sharks have gotten a bad reputation from movies, and from the media (what would the media be without media sensationalism!?), which constantly provides graphic reports of shark attacks.
While we are made to be deathly afraid of sharks, the truth of the matter is that sharks are generally more afraid of us. And rightly so, as humans kill 100 million sharks (of all sizes) a year. Worldwide, sharks only cause an average of 7 deaths and 70 reported attacks a year. Many sharks are endangered species. For example, sharks are sought for shark fin soup and shark tooth jewelry. We don’t mean to underplay the importance to be alert to the dangers of sharks. Rather, we want to make you aware of the importance of sharks to the health of our oceans.
Museums around the world celebrate Shark Awareness Day by holding educational awareness programs, teaching us the importance of sharks in maintaining a healthy balance in the ocean ecosystem. At the top of the ocean food chain, sharks help to eliminate weak and sick members of ocean fish species and keep the whole system in balance.

When is Sidewalk Egg Frying Day? This holiday is always celebrated on July 4
You know the old saying “If it’s too hot, get out of the kitchen”. Instead, go outside into the stifling heat and cook on the sidewalk. It’s hot enough out there to fry an egg! Thet’s exactly why Sidewalk Egg Frying Day is today. Hmmm…. Do you wonder why we have such a day? Just take one step out of your air-conditioned home into the sweltering summer heat and humidity, and you’ll understand why this July 4 holiday exists.
It’s July, the middle of summer. The weather is hotter than blazes. It’s steamy, unbearable heat. Everything you touch is hot, sizzling hot. Why, it’s so hot that you could fry an egg on the sidewalk. And if you want, you can also throw some bacon or sausage on the sidewalk, to fry up along with your eggs.
Do you wonder if anyone has ever tried to fry eggs on the sidewalk? What about you? Most likely, many of you will now rush out under the hot noonday sun to fry some eggs on your sidewalk. Once you do so, who will eat it!?
Eggs are not the only thing you can cook outdoors in the blazing sun. We suggest you make summer Sun Tea. You can also dehydrate and dry fruits, vegetables, and herbs.
Another place to fry your eggs is on your blacktop driveway. The sun makes the blacktop sizzling hot. On a sunny day at 95° F, the surface of a blacktop driveway reaches 140° F or more. That’s enough to burn the bottom of your feet, as you walk barefoot over it.

History and Origin of Sidewalk Egg Frying Day
In 1983, the town of Oatman, Arizona began the tradition of frying eggs on the sidewalk of the town. In July, the high temperature in Oatman, regularly exceeds 100° F. Their obvious goal was to show just how hot it gets there in the summer. As it turns out, it was not just a one-time hot fad. It quickly became an annual event. Other towns and cities also participate in this tradition.
After breakfast as the temperature continues to soar, we recommend you hurry back into your air-conditioned home or hit the beach. Or, relax in a hammock with a drink under a shady tree. It’s a great way to beat the heat.
Undoubtedly, this date was selected as the 4th of July heat is usually sweltering hot.

One of the most well-known German folklore is the story of the Pied Piper of Hamelin. Hamelin, Germany was infested by rats. So, the mayor promised to handsomely pay the Pied Piper if he rid the town of rats. The Pied Piper played his flute. Lured by the magical music, all of the rats left town and followed him. He played his music all the way down to the Weser River. He waded into the river. When the rats followed him they drowned.
The mayor refused to pay him. So, one night when the townspeople were asleep, the Pied Piper played his music again. This time, the children of the town followed him into a cave. Some versions of the legend vary here. One version says the Pied Piper kept them there until he was paid by the town for his services. In most versions, the children were never to be seen again.
