The title of this holiday has evolved over the past twenty years. Because the creator of this day is unknown, we believe the changes are arbitrary, and certainly not made by the creator of this day.

• It was originally called Thank a Mailman Day.
• Then, it became Thank Your Mailman Day, a logical revision. 
• Another logical change altered it to Thank Your Mailman Day.
• Around 2015 – 2017 a few internet websites began to call it National Thank Your Mailman Day.

 Today is Play Tennis Day, and a great day to play. After all, it’s the objective of this February 23 holiday. Millions of us, young and old, play this high-energy game. Because it is mid-winter, you may be limited to an indoor court if available. Or, perhaps you will play table tennis. 

Millions of Americans enjoy playing tennis. In addition to being a good sport, it’s good exercise, too.

This is a day that Fairy Tales are made of (and for). It’s Tell a Fairy Tale Day. On this February 26 holiday take time out to read a story to your kids or grandkids. If the kids aren’t around, it’s certainly okay to read them alone. Everybody loves a good fairy tale.

To qualify as a fairy tale, a story does not have to begin with “Once upon a time”. But, they usually do. However, it is a requirement that the story has a happy ending. There’s nothing better than a good story ending with “and they all lived happily ever after”. 

On Fairy Tale Day, cozy up under a blanket with the kids and read “the good book”, a fairy tale storybook. Libraries and schools will often mark this day with special fairy tale readings and story hours.

Today is Susan B. Anthony Day, a February 15 holiday. On this day, we honor Susan B. Anthony and celebrate her birthday. She was one of the most important females in American history.  Born on February 15, 1820, Susan B Anthony spent her life promoting women’s right to vote and equal rights for women. She was arrested in 1872, for attempting to vote in the presidential election. She helped bring about the 19th Amendment, giving women the right to vote.

For 40 years, Susan B. Anthony was a women’s rights and civil rights activist and leader. As a child, she moved to Rochester, NY with her family. Her family was active in the anti-slavery movement. From there, she became active in the fight for women’s rights. Her home on 17 Madison Street in Rochester, NY. has become a National Historical site, and home to a museum about her and women’s rights.

Susan B Anthony is the only woman to date, to have her picture on a U.S. coin or paper currency. It is on the silver dollar.

Take a minute today to give recognition and appreciation to Susan B Anthony and all other women of that time, who fought so hard for women’s rights.

Stuffed Mushroom Day is a special day that you can sink your teeth into. If you like mushrooms, then you are certain to love them stuffed. Mushroom caps make the perfect bite-sized holders. On this February 4 holiday, match them with your favorite stuffing, and you have a culinary treat.

People have been eating mushrooms for perhaps thousands of years. But, they were also shunned by many, as a lot of mushrooms are poisonous. It wasn’t until the 19th century that they became popular.

Stuffed mushroom recipes go back to the 19th century. It is believed to have evolved from Italian stuffed zucchini flowers. Fortunately for us, there is a wide range of stuffed mushroom recipes, from simple bread stuffing to lobster, crab, cheeses, and much, much more.

Did You Know? There are over 14,000 species of mushrooms. It is important to note, that many are poisonous. So, don’t go out into the forest to pick them yourself.

Spunky Old Broads Day is upon us. Aren’t you glad!? This special February 1 holiday exists to give all Spunky Old Broads (S.O.B.) a day to recognize their importance and celebrate themselves and their accomplishments. It is also a perfect day for the young ladies among us an opportunity to begin planning and preparing to become a S.O.B. someday.

When thinking about what an S.O.B. should be, one thinks of successful, independent, self-reliant, smart, intelligent, outgoing and outspoken, resourceful, bold, brave, and anything but shy.

Spunky Old Broads Day Slogan: Women are like fine wine. They get better with age.

What do you do on this day? According to the originator “Although I am the Spunky Old Broad, generally for women, it means Spunky, Open, and Brave. I think that says it all.” As for you guys out there, you should be supportive and understanding of the course, and rather than criticize, it might be great to appreciate them for who they are.

Among many other things, Dr. Gayle Carson, the originator of this day, is the author of “How to Be an S.O.B–A Spunky Old Broad Who Kicks Butt.” It’s a “must read” for all spunky old broads, and anyone who aspires to be one.

Having just one day to celebrate being spunky old broads is hardly enough. Dr. Carson turned February into Spunky Old Broads Month. She also picks a Spunky Old Broad of the Year. Past winners have been Cloris Leachman, Dolly Parton, Sharon Osbourne, Goldie Hawn, Katie Couric, and Helen Mirren.

Don’t tell the cow, but I just spilled some milk. But don’t worry or fret. Don’t Cry Over Spilled Milk Day is in recognition that everyone spills a little milk now and then. Roll with the punches on this February 11 holiday. It’s a day to be optimistic, think positively, look on the bright side, and find something good in everything that happens. As Bobby McFerrin’s song title says: Don’t Worry, be Happy!

In early February, it’s cold and snowy, with long hours of darkness. Winter is getting a little old, yet there are weeks to go before spring arrives. Life in February can be simply boring. Better still, send a card to all of your friends.

Today is Random Acts of Kindness Day. And, you know what to do…perform a few unplanned, random acts of kindness. On the February 17 holiday, almost any kind of good deed will do. And, we highly recommend you perform kind acts on as many people as you can.

A random act is like throwing a pair of dice. You don’t know in advance what the outcome will be. To perform random acts of kindness today, don’t schedule or plan what you are going to do. Rather, keep alert for unexpected opportunities to be nice or help someone in need. This is a favorite day of many people and groups. People like the idea of showing a little kindness to others. It’s a fun and good thing to do. And, they like being on the receiving end of this day as well. It makes both the giver and the receiver feel good.

Schools have used this day as an educational event, and to promote the value of kindness. Organizations often use this day to promote their cause and for fundraisers.
