When is Sweetest Day? This holiday is the third Saturday in October
Now here is a day you and your sweetie can really get into. Sweetest Day exists as an opportunity for you to recognize that sweet and special someone. It doesn’t matter who that person is, or what their relation to you. They just have to be “sweet” to get a little recognition.
As the days in October get increasingly colder, use this holiday to:
Snuggle with your sweetie.
Cuddle with your cutie.
Hug your honey.
While most people celebrate Sweetest Day, by giving chocolates and other sweets to their “Sweetie”, the original intent of this day was something quite different.
Herbert Birch Kingston, a Cleveland, Ohio philanthropist and candy company employee started Sweetest Day. He wanted to bring happiness to orphans, shut-ins, and the underprivileged. He intended to show these people that they were not forgotten. So in 1922, he started this holiday by giving candy and small gifts. Movie stars, most notably Theda Bara and Anna Pennington, joined in giving boxes of candy to people in Cleveland. Bara gave 10,000 boxes of candy to patients in Cleveland hospitals.
The popularity of this holiday quickly spread. And soon, the traditions altered. Today, people give candies and other sweets to loved ones and friends. That is perfectly fine.
However, we encourage you to follow the original selfless intent of this special holiday. Find ways to give candy and small gifts to those in need. It will bring a smile and a little happiness to someone who is ill or in need. You’ll be glad that you did!
How to Celebrate Sweetest Day
First and foremost, give candy or sweets to people in need, in the hospital, shut-ins, or the elderly.
After you have followed the original spirit of this day, then you can give candy or sweets to your “sweetie.
Pass out candy to people you know. For example, give out Hershey’s kisses.
Do something nice for an elderly person who may be lonely. For instance, visit someone who is a shut-in. Or, call them if they live out of town.
Additionally, bring candies to work to share with your co-workers.

When is Super Bowl Sunday? February 8, 2026, Super Bowl LX (60) at Levi's Stadium, Santa Clara, CA
As soon as one super bowl is over, many of us look to book our calendars for the next one. So, the big question is “When is Super Bowl 2026? Every NFL Football team wants to get to the “Party”, The “Big Game”, and the Super Bowl! And, only one team leaves with the victory and a Super Bowl ring telling the world they are the greatest football team in the world. When is the Super Bowl Sunday? Football teams and the vast majority of Americans have circled the date on their calendars many months ago. The NFL’s championship game has been held annually since the first game held on January 15, 1967. In Super Bowl I the Green Bay Packers defeated the Kansas City Chiefs, 35-10.
Millions of people around the world hold or attend the “Big Party” at bars, party houses, and in their living rooms. Super Bowl Sunday is the second biggest snack day of the year. Second only to, you guessed it, New Year’s Eve. Sit down and tune in to the most-watched game of the year. Even casual sports fans take part. After all, watching the great ads and the super Half-time show, are as much a part of the game as the game itself. Many spouses readily admit they watch the Superbowl just to see the ads.
Who will win the Super Bowl this year? We don’t know, but it sure is fun watching our team compete for the Lombardi trophy. It could be just a touchdown away.
Remember when…..In 1973, The Miami Dolphins defeated the Washington Redskins in Superbowl VII, to become the first undefeated team in NFL history.
Where and When is Super Bowl Sunday in Future Years?
Here are future dates and locations:
Super Bowl LX is February 8, 2026, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. It’s home to the San Fransico 49ers.
Superbowl LXI is February 14, 2027, at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. It is home to the Los Angeles Rams and the Los Angeles Chargers.
Super Bowl LXII The exact date in 2028 has not yet been announced. At the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. It is home to the Atlanta Falcons.

When is Sunscreen Protection Day? This holiday is always observed on May 27
Sunscreen Protection Day is a very important health holiday. It educates and brings awareness to the importance of using sunscreen to protect yourself and your children from harmful UV rays from the sun. This May 27 holiday is held just in advance of the summer and vacation season. When we first get outside in the sun, our skin is not yet acclimated to the increasing intensity of the sun. As a result, we easily get sunburns.
Ultraviolet rays from the sun are a serious risk to your health. With the steady depletion of the ozone layer above the earth, more and stronger UV rays get through. Overexposure to the sun can cause several health problems. It can cause skin cancer and sunspots. It can also result in premature aging of your skin.
Doctors and medical professionals advocate the use of sunscreen, to guard against health problems. They recommend a Skin Protection factor (SPF) of 30 or higher. The higher the SPF value, the better the lotion is at protecting you and especially your children against harmful Ultraviolet (UV) rays. The highest SPF Factor is 100. It blocks 99% of the sun’s harmful UV rays. Sunscreens should be used for all outdoor activities, including swimming.
And yes, sunscreens should be used on cloudy days. UV rays can penetrate through clouds.
Did You Know? Opticians recommend wearing sunglasses with 100% UV protection all the time. On cloudy days UV rays go right through the clouds. On winter days, the rays hit your eyes coming down, as well as reflecting back up from the snow.
Now get out and celebrate Sunscreen Protection Day in the sun…with sufficient sunscreen protection!
Sunny Trivia
The summer season is about to begin. Be safe. Use our Sunny Trivia to enlighten others on the goodness of the sun along with the importance of protecting our skin and eyes from extended harmful rays.
90% of non-melanoma skin cancer is caused by the sun’s ultraviolet rays.
An SPF factor of 30 blocks 97% of the sun’s harmful rays.
1 out of 5 Americans will get skin cancer by age 70.
Sunscreen offers some protection against aging of the skin.
It should be re-applied every few hours.
Protect your head and scalp, too. If you don’t want to apply it to your head, Wear a hat.
Your Sunscreen expires. Check the date of any you have left over from last year.
Scars and moles need extra sunscreen.
The sun is about 865,000 miles in diameter. The circumference is 2,715,396 miles.
On average, the Earth is 92,955,807 miles from the sun. It varies somewhat as the Earth’s orbit around the sun is elliptical.
It takes the Earth 365.3 days to complete one orbit around the sun. The extra .3 days is why we have a leap day added to the calendar every four years.
The sun is not all bad for your body. Your skin makes vitamin D when exposed to the sun. In just thirty minutes in the sun, your skin can produce 10,000 to 20,000 IU of Vitamin D. That’s more than enough.
Always, wear sunglasses with 100% UV protection.
How to Celebrate Sunscreen Protection Day
On sunny days, slather on the sunscreen lotion.
Use the highest Skin Protection Factor (SPF) on sunny days.
Along with sunscreen, we recommend you wear sunglasses with 100% UV protection.
If you are out in the sun a lot, have your skin checked by a dermatologist.

History and Origin of Sunscreen Protection Day
We discovered no substantial information about the origin of this day. We can only speculate that a medical or health organization or group created this day to promote awareness and education about the dangers of ultraviolet light from over-exposure to the sun. As previously mentioned, these organizations stress the need for a skin protection factor (SPF) of 30 or higher.
A couple of internet sites refer to this as National Sunscreen Protection Day. We found no congressional or presidential proclamation making this a true national day. Our original research in the 2000s found no reference to this holiday as a “National” day.

When is National Stepfamily Day? This holiday is always observed on September 16
Stepfamily Day was established to recognize and show appreciation for the importance and value of stepparents and extended families. This September 16 holiday was first celebrated with a picnic on September 16, 1997. The suggested method of celebration is a picnic at a park. Since its inception, it has slowly gained recognition and popularity. it creates a blended family with diverse traits and interests. Moreover it enriches the lives of all family members.
Stepfamilies are created through the death of a parent, divorce, or separation. A stepmother or stepfather comes into our life, often accompanied by a stepbrother or stepsister. While it begins with a tragic or unsettling event, these people are a blessing.
Decades ago, most marriages lasted for life. Separation and divorce were often looked down upon. Similarly, the innocent children in a broken family were once looked down upon. In today’s society, divorce and remarriages are unquestionably commonplace. Over 50% of all marriages end up in divorce. That means over half of us are divorced and/or children of divorce. Thus, it gives us cause to recognize the extended family and how they can enrich our lives.
So, take a minute today and reflect upon a past dejection. Then, smile with the realization that we are indeed loved by both our stepparents as well as our step siblings.
How to Celebrate National Stepfamily Day
Have a picnic in a park with your stepfamily. Spend a few minutes to appreciate how great it is to have a stepmother and stepfather.
Then, spend some quality time with your blended family.
Share a special meal or evening with them.

The Vernal Equinox arrives today. Ah, Spring has finally arrived! A time when “a young man’s thoughts turn to thoughts of love”…and outdoors and fishing and gardening and…….. And, let’s not leave out the ladies. Spring brings out these thoughts and more, for both ladies and gentlemen. So, let’s go and enjoy what many believe to be the best season of them all!
The Spring Vernal Equinox brings days and nights in equal proportions. It is simply the day when there are exactly 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of nighttime. But, did you know that this is only true on the Equator? For the rest of us, the timing is a little sooner, or later, depending on where we live on the planet. We won’t go any deeper than that, as this is a fun site, not a science course.
The other thing to note is that the Spring Equinox is just a calendar date. From a standpoint of weather in your area, real spring arrives sooner or later depending upon where you live in the Northern Hemisphere. If you are in the more northerly states in the country, or in Canada, snow and cold weather will stick around for just a little while longer. However, the good news is with the longer and longer days, temperatures are on the rise.

When is Sorry Charlie Day? This holiday is always observed on April 6
Sorry Charlie Day, an April 6 holiday is about apologizing to someone for something you did or did not do. It’s a day to come to terms with turndowns and rejection. Have you ever been rejected? For anything? Surely you have! We all have. Sorry, Charlie Day is for all of us who have been spurned, and yet somehow survived it.
Some people suggest that this day might be about Starkist Tuna’s “Sorry Charlie” television ad in the 1970s. But we did not find any documentation to support this theory.
Don’t feel sorry and sad about mistakes and missteps that you make. Rather, take this as an opportunity to grow and gain confidence that your next proposal will go better. Take a minute today and reflect upon a past dejection. Certainly, you’ll handle it better the next time around. Then, smile with the realization that “it happens to all of us!”
How to Celebrate Sorry Charlie Day
Don’t wallow in the mistakes you make. Instead, learn from them and move on. Here are some examples:
If you said or did something wrong or inappropriate to a person or group of people, offer your apology. It must be sincere.
If you have been dejected or wrong in any way, take steps to get past it.
We do not suggest that you go up to someone seeking their apology. You might just walk away a little more frustrated and hurt than bef ore you approached them.

S’mores are a favorite campsite treat for young and old kids. If you’re at a campfire, chances are, there are S’mores. The origin of S’mores dates back to the 1920s. It’s believed the recipe was created by the Campfire Girls. Girl Scouts soon discovered it and found it to be chocolatey delicious. Before long, they became a campfire staple for everyone. S’more folklore suggests that they got their name right by the campfire. After eating one, young kids chanted “gimme some more!”
