About National Marshmallow Toasting Day

When is National Marshmallow Toasting Day? This event is always observed on August 30

During eleven out of the twelve months of the year, we enjoy a wide range of holidays. When we get to August, there is a major shortage of big holidays to celebrate. Perhaps that is why many Europeans take the month of August off for vacation. It’s just as well that there are no big holidays to compete with National Marshmallow Toasting Day. After all, how could any holiday compare with this August 30 holiday!?

Enjoy today or tonight by a campfire or bonfire with family or friends. Toast a big, soft, sticky, and sweet marshmallow. Eat two or three. Summer would not be the same without a campfire and this great campfire treat. Summer is almost over. So, let’s enjoy it while it is still here. Toast a marshmallow and forget about everything else.

And, don’t forget to make a few S’mores, too.

History and Origin of National Marshmallow Toasting Day

While we all know and enjoy S’mores by the campfire, there is little known about this day, our research has not yet identified the creator, of this day, or when and why it was created.

We are especially curious about the selection of this date to celebrate this holiday. It is on the last day of August. At this point, colleges and many schools are back in session. Some school systems have started classes, too. We would have thought this holiday would be earlier in the summer season.

Creating an official “National” day requires an Act of Congress or a presidential proclamation. We found no record of this.
