Administrative Professionals Day or Secretary's Day
About Administrative Professionals Day or Secretary's Day
When is Administrative Professionals Day? The Secretary's Day holiday is observed on April 22, 2026; April 21, 2027; April 26, 2028; April 25. 2029; April 24, 2030; April 23, 2031

Is your Admin awesome? Today is Administrative Professionals Day 2026, also called Secretary’s Day. Professional Secretaries Week and Secretaries Day were created in 1952 through the work of Harry F. Klemfuss of Young and Rubicam. Klemfuss recognized the importance and value of the secretarial position, to a company or business and management. His goal in creating this day was to encourage more women to become secretaries. (Nowadays, that would be both women and men). Using his skill and experience in public relations, Klemfuss, promoted the values and importance of the job that secretaries do. In doing so, he also created the holiday in recognition of the importance of secretaries.
The name of this special day has changed and evolved over the past few decades. Yet, the importance of recognizing these vital individuals has continued to grow. The two new terms in use today are: “Administrative Professionals” and “Executive Administrators (or Admins)”. The two names sometimes mean different roles and responsibilities in different companies and organizations. Both are broader terms, that encompass more positions than the original “Secretary” role.
The name change recognizes and acknowledges that the role has changed significantly since 1952, and for the better at that. We think Klemfuss would agree with the evolution of Secretary’s Day. In Harry Klemfuss’ day, these positions were the realm of women. Today, you find males in these positions, too.
Lilies are the official flower of this holiday. This big, bright flower represents commitment, patience, and purity. Kinda sounds like an administrative professional or secretary, doesn’t it!?
Did You Know? This professional position is also sometimes called “Executive Admin”.
An Invaluable Position
Among the places you can find these critical professionals are in business, education, government, healthcare, the legal profession, and many other areas. Over many years, the position of secretary and office administrative personnel has evolved. And, these smart, hardworking individuals sometimes did not get the respect they deserved. Secretaries were once seen as a combination of receptionists, coffee procurers, schedulers, stenographers, and typists. Nowadays, their responsibilities are often much broader.
When you stop and think about it, your business would be in a world of hurt without these professionals. Office secretaries and Admins are the wheels that make your office run smoothly. Secretaries, in particular, are often the first contact clients and visitors see. They are the image of your business. That first impression is very important. Usually, secretaries and admins are the professionals that make the office work smoothly. They are a wealth of knowledge about the company and how it works on a daily basis. If you have a task that needs to be done, they are the ones to get the job done quickly and efficiently.
Did You Know? In 1941 a law was passed allowing women to work in an office!
How to Celebrate Administrative Professionals Day 2026
As a manager, whatever you do, do not give your admins and secretaries the day off today. Rather, they need to be in the office so you can give them the recognition and appreciation that they deserve. But, you can give them the day off tomorrow. The most common ways of recognizing your Administrative Professional(s) today are:
First and foremost, tell them how much they are appreciated.
Tell them how vital they are to the smooth operation of the office.
Give them recognition in your company newsletter.
Give them flowers for their desk. Lilies are the perfect choice.
Cards, often with restaurant or shopping gift certificates, are a great way to show your appreciation.
Take them to lunch.
Give them a box of candy. We hope you know their favorite candies.
Assorted gift baskets are a great way to say thanks for all that you do.
If there is something they want for their desk, now is the perfect time to procure it.
Encourage students to consider a career in any of these important and honorable fields.

History and Origin of Secretary's Day (Administrative Professionals Day 2026)
In 1952, U.S. Secretary of Commerce created National Secretaries Week. Then, National Secretaries Association with the support of corporate groups created National Secretary’s Day. The word “National” was later removed from the title.
In 1955, both of these events were moved to April. Then, in 1981 the word “Secretary” was replaced with the words “Professional Secretaries”. Then, in 2000, the name was changed again to “Administrative Professionals”. The name change reflected the changing role of this profession and the definition includes more people.
Today, the International Association of Administrative Professionals is among the organizations that promote this holiday.
While this is a very important holiday, it is not a public holiday. Nor, is it a national holiday.
There is no congressional records or presidential proclamations for this day.

When is Sadie Hawkins Day? This holiday is always observed on November 13
Today is Sadie Hawkin’s Day, a November 13 holiday. This is a holiday that originated from a cartoon. It all began in Al Capp’s ‘Lil Abner cartoon in the 1930s. In the cartoon series, the mayor of Dogpatch was desperate to marry off his ugly daughter. So he created Sadie Hawkin’s Day. On this day, a race is held and all the single men were given a short head start. Then, all the single women, including the mayor’s daughter, chased the boys. If a girl catches her man, he had to marry her.
Sadie Hawkins Day races and events grew in popularity during All Capp’s long-running cartoon. This cartoon made holiday largely died out after 40 years when the cartoon was discontinued. It can occasionally be seen celebrated on college campuses.

When is Rubber Eraser Day? This holiday is always observed on April 15
Stop! Put that eraser away. Don’t erase today from your monthly calendar. Make no mistake. Rubber Eraser Day, an April 15 holiday, celebrates the invention of erasers. We all make mistakes. This day is designated to recognize and appreciate the value of that little plug (as manufacturers call them), that sits atop our pencils. When we make a mistake, they are the big “cover-up”, make that eraser, of our booboo or faux pax. Just imagine how messy our documents would be without them!
We’ve been making writing mistakes since we first put pencil to paper. Why not just call it “Eraser Day”? There are two reasons. The first erasers were made of rubber. Today, they are made of rubber or vinyl. Secondly, in Great Britain, they are formally called “rubbers”.
In the world of erasers, two men are prominent. Joseph Priestley discovered the eraser in 1770, using pieces of rubber imported from Brazil. Then in 1858, Hyman Lipman of Philadelphia, Pa., patented the pencil with an eraser at the end.
There are a number of types of erasers, including:
One that comes already attached to your pencil by a metal band.
An eraser you can add on top of your pencil.
A block, commonly called Pink Pearl or Pink Pet.
In pencil form. Instead of lead, there is an eraser inside. As your use it, you peel away the outside.
Rubber Eraser Trivia and Facts
It comes as no surprise that the use of erasers has dramatically declined. Computers, texting, and emails have replaced many handwritten letters, notes, memos, etc.
If you do not have an eraser, use a piece of wadded-up bread. This was how mistakes were erased prior to the invention of rubber erasers.
There is an eraser for ink. It is much less common.
In 1932, Albert Dremel invented the electric eraser. A powered rubber cylinder quickly removes errors.
How to Celebrate Rubber Eraser Day
Pull out your eraser and leave it on your desk as you write with a pencil.
Use the eraser as needed.
If you’re not making any mistakes, make a couple, so you can use your eraser.
Be curious. Try to determine if your eraser is made of rubber or vinyl.
If you don’t have one, buy one today.
Give them away as a small gift to people you meet during the course of the day.
Today's Quote
“To err is human, an eraser is divine!”
History and Origin of Rubber Eraser Day
There is a wealth of information about the discovery of the erasers. However, our research failed to discover who established this holiday.
We did discover some discrepancies about when this day is celebrated. Most references point to April 15th as Rubber Eraser Day. However, some sites proclaim April 13th as Rubber Eraser Day.
In recent years, some internet websites have added the word “National” to the title. Our original research in the early 2000s found no such reference. We did not find any congressional records or presidential proclamations for this day.

When is Repeat Day? This holiday is always observed on June 3
Repeat Day is today. This June 3 holiday is an opportunity to say and do things over and over again. Repetition is good for learning and developing skills. It is also good when we repeat doing things we enjoy, like that second piece of pie, watching your favorite movie over again, or riding the roller coaster for a second time. Repeat Day is an opportunity to do things over and over again. (hee, hee) We encourage you to repeat the fun things. But, it’s okay to skip repeating unpleasant things.
You can hear this day echo in a canyon and down a hallway. It’s a day where you repeatedly perform a task or play a game over and over again. While playing a game a second or third time sounds like a lot of fun, I sure hope I don’t have to do the dishes or any other job over again today or any day.
Hopefully, you will choose to repeat things you enjoy doing. Pick a wide array of foods, snacks, and activities, and repeat them today. As a matter of fact, it’s perfectly okay to repeat them over and over again today. It’s also perfectly okay to avoid doing things you don’t like. It’s a certainty that you will not enjoy distasteful things the second time around.
Today’s Feature Movie:Groundhog Day. In the movie, February 2 was repeated over and over several times.
How to Celebrate Repeat Day

Yodel in a canyon and listen for an echo. If you do not near a canyon, sometimes hallways will produce a repeating echo.
Think twice before making a decision or doing something.
Exceptions:
You don’t have to repeat mistakes today.
Don’t repeat unpleasant tasks.
Don’t go to work twice.

When is Red Planet Day? This holiday is always observed on November 28
Today is Red Planet Day, a November 28 holiday. The planet Mars is referred to as the “Red Planet” because it appears red. Red Planet Day honors our celestial neighbor, the fourth planet in the solar system.
It is sometimes called the “rusty planet”. The red color comes from the iron oxide (rust) that covers it. But, is Mars truly red in color? Scientists debated this question, even after the Mars Rovers landed and began to explore the planet. Why? Because the lenses used to take photos are tinted.
On Red Planet Day, take a few minutes to look upwards into the sky, and gaze at our neighbor. Hopefully, you will have a cloudless night sky for viewing. You can also recognize this day by reading up about Mars and viewing pictures of it. Of course, there are plenty of pictures online. NASA’s website is an excellent place to see high-quality pictures.
Red Planet Day commemorates the launch of the Spacecraft Mariner 4 on November 28, 1964. Mariner 4 was the first spacecraft to visit Mars. The 228-day mission of Mariner 4 brought the spacecraft within 6,118 miles of Mars on July 14, 1965.

When is Receptionist Day? This holiday is celebrated on the second Wednesday of May
Don’t confuse this day for Administrative Professionals Day or Secretary’s Day. Receptionists, this is your day! Okay, maybe it’s not a day off. But, it’s a day to recognize and appreciate all the things that you do! The purpose of Receptionists Day is two-fold. First, of all, it gives recognition to receptionists. After all, they are the first person your customers see when they walk through the door of your company. The great first impression is molded in large part thanks to your smiling, cheerful receptionist.
Secondly, Receptionist Day promotes pride and professionalism in the position. As the “face” of the company or organization, a receptionist is a very important position. Occasionally, they are faced with an upset or unhappy customer, supplier, or visitor. This is where their professionalism comes into play, turning an unhappy situation into a positive experience for all visitors.
Note: There is also a “Receptionist Week. It is celebrated during the Second week of May.
How to Celebrate Receptionist Day
Thank your receptionist for his or her dedication and efforts.
Then, give her a gift card to a nice restaurant.
Buy her coffee.
Buy her flowers or candy.
Take her to lunch.

We did find this day listed on countless Ecard websites.
In recent years some internet websites have added the word “National” to the title. Our original research in the early 2000s found no such reference. And, very importantly, the National Receptionist Association calls it Receptionist Day on their website. We did not find any congressional records or presidential proclamations for this day.

Ramadan is a time of fasting, worship, and renewal of family ties. Fasting lasts the entire month, and Muslims cannot eat during daylight hours. Fasting is done to show devotion to God. Also, it is a tie of prayer and reading the Koran. On the last day of Ramadan, it ends with the sighting of the moon. A Muslim friend of mine says people in high-rise apartments have the advantage, as they see the moon first.
How to Celebrate Ramadan
This day is spent in fasting a prayer. First, read from the Quran each day. And of course, give praise to Allah.
Of course, read the Koran during Ramadan and every Islamic holiday. However, if you do not have a copy of this holy book of Islam, then certainly buy one now.
