About Ask a Stupid Question Day

When is Ask a Stupid Question Day? September 28, or the last school day in September if the 28th falls on a weekend.

Today is Ask a Stupid Question Day, a September 28 holiday. This is your chance to speak up, and to ask all those questions you were afraid to ask. All those questions that you thought were too stupid or dumb to ask, have been piling up all year long. Today is the day to unload them. In school, your teacher asks if you have a question. Don’t hesitate… raise your hand. Outside of school, nobody will prompt you. So, speak up when a question comes in your mind.  C’mon, give it a try. Nobody will laugh……we hope.

This may be a stupid question, but I will ask it anyway…… Teachers say there is no such thing as a stupid question. Or, that no question is too stupid to ask. If this is true, then why do your classmates laugh when you ask a question?  Yes, kids can be cruel. But, if you have a question, there’s no better place to ask, than in the classroom.

Movie of the  Day: “Dumb and Dumber”

Other “Stupid” stuff:

  • Ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer.
  • This might sound stupid, but……
  • Do you think I’m stupid enough to fall for that (duh!)
  • Seen on a T-shirt “I’m with Stupid”. Well, if that’s true, how smart are you?

How to Celebrate Ask a Stupid Question Day

It’s really easy to participate in this special day. Don’t be shy. Ask a stupid question. The question isn’t really stupid. You just think it is. With you leading the way, soon others will be asking more questions.

Make a game of it. Wherever you go, think up questions about whatever you see and hear. Then, ask away.

Today's Quote

“Stupid is as Stupid Does” – – Forest Gump in the movie Forest Gump

History and Origin of Ask a Stupid Question Day

The roots of this special day go back to the 1980s. At the time, there was a movement by teachers to try to get kids to ask more questions in the classroom. Although kids often hold back. They fear their question is stupid and face ridicule from fellow classmates.

As a result, teachers created this day on September 28. If this holiday falls on a weekend, then teachers celebrate it on the last school day of the month.

This Day in History

Additionally, here are some other things that happened on September 28:

  • A woman on Fifth Avenue in New York City is arrested for smoking a cigarette in a car. (1904)

Skyscraper Day

When is Skyscraper Day? This holiday is always observed on September 3

Skyscraper Day is a day to appreciate and admire the world’s tallest skyscrapers. Thus, on this September 3 holiday, we marvel at the world’s tallest buildings. Skyscrapers are truly engineering and architectural marvels. In many crowded cities, space is in short supply, and real estate prices are ever-increasing. Building “up” becomes more and more logical. As technical capabilities in construction improved, buildings have become taller and taller. In addition, there is a certain prestige to having one of the tallest buildings in the world in your city and country.

The 10-story Home Insurance Company building in Chicago, IL was the first skyscraper. Construction began on May 1, 1884, and was completed in 1885. It was also the first building to use a steel frame. The building was demolished in 1931.

A Tall Debate: There is some disagreement over how to measure the height of skyscrapers. At issue is whether to measure the height of flagpoles and antennas atop most tall buildings.

Did You Know? The Empire State Building in New York City was the world’s tallest skyscraper when it was built in 1931. Now, it ranks #55.

Have a very happy Skyscraper Day.

While these buildings are the tallest in the world today, new skyscraper construction is occurring all over the planet.

History and Origin of How to Celebrate Skyscraper Day

Despite our extensive research, w found no factual information about this special day. But, we do find skyscrapers to be fascinating. Apparently, the creator of this day found them fascinating, too. Unfortunately, he or she failed to document and take credit for this holiday.

Reader Comments:.

“Skyscraper day is on September 3rd because that is Louis H. Sullivan’s birthday (1856), the architect credited with the first skyscrapers.”  Nathan Bird, Sparks, Nevada

A couple of internet websites incorrectly refer to this as “National Skyscraper Day” It is not a national day. If anything, it should be an International or World day, as only one skyscraper in the United States rank among the top ten. It is the One World Trade center which ranks number 7.

Twin Towers, WHen is 911 Remembrance Day? September 11 Observance. September This Day in History. Historic September Events.

About 911 Remembrance Day

When is 911 Remembrance Day? This very special and somber day is always observed on September 11

Today is 911 Remembrance Day; I doubt anyone will ever forget where they were on the morning of September 11, 2001, when they heard of the attacks on the twin World Trade Towers in NYC and the Pentagon in Washington. And let us not forget the brave passengers on United Airlines Flight 93, who fought the terrorist. Ultimately, the plane crashed in a field in Shanksville, PA rather than hitting the White House or the Capitol Building, likely destinations. This horrible and tragic day when the Twin Towers fell is etched forever in our memories. So, we will forever mark 911 Remembrance Day on September 11.

Like the attack on Pearl Harbor that brought us into World War II, the 911 attacks led us into a new war… the war on terrorism. It also touched and changed forever, the lives of each and every American.

On the anniversary of 911, we encourage you to spend a few minutes reflecting upon this event, and praying for the victims who died, and their families and friends.

911 Remembrance Day History

  • A number of other buildings were also damaged or destroyed. Most notably was the Marriott hotel, which was also destroyed.
  • A third plane hit the Pentagon in Washington, DC.
  • The fourth hijacked plane ultimately crashed in a field in Shanksville, PA. Passengers on the plane learned of the fate of the other planes and unsuccessfully attempted to take back control of the plane from the suicidal the hijackers. Everyone aboard died.

About International Rabbit Day

When is International Rabbit Day? This holiday is observed on the Fourth Saturday in September

Rabbits are found all over the world. International Rabbit Day seeks to protect rabbits as both pets and in the wild. Yet, not everyone loves them. While kids and even adults love their little bunny pets, farmers, gardeners, and even many homeowners see them as pests that eat their hard-earned crops and flowers. And, in many countries, they are a source of food to some people, too.

Animal rights groups and humane societies are active promoters of this special day. Their objectives are to promote healthy, caring environments for rabbits that are raised as pets, and those living in the wild. They also seek to stop the use of rabbit furs and the use of rabbits on restaurant menus. While the main objective of this holiday began with compassion for bunnies in the wild, we also use this holiday to celebrate allow of the famous rabbits, bunnies, and hares in movies, advertising, children’s stories, and other venues.  For example, how could you possibly celebrate this holiday without at least thinking about Bugs Bunny and Peter Cottontail!? Surely, International Rabbit Day would not be the same without them.

National Punch Day, a September 20 holiday, just might celebrate one of three things.  Can you guess all three?

  • First, the punch drink that comes from a bowl

We don’t know the answer for certain, as we found no factual information at all on this special day. Nor did we find the creator of this day, so we can’t ask him or her. That leaves everyone guessing as to the creator’s intent. The vast majority of references to this special day suggest we are celebrating the drink called punch. About National POW/MIA Recognition Day

When is National POW/MIA Recognition Day? This holiday is observed on the third Friday in September

POW/MIA Recognition Day is a day of remembrance and hope for the speedy and safe return of American Prisoners of War, and those still Missing in Action. This applies to service members from all wars and military operations. It also seeks the return of the remains of fallen soldiers.

The first official commemoration of POW/MIAs was on July 18, 1979. It was the result of resolutions passed in Congress. The first national ceremony was held on this date. Over the next several years, it was held at varying dates of the year. Finally, in 1986, The National League of Families proposed the third Friday in September as a day to recognize and remember POW/MIAs. This date was selected, as it is not associated with any wars. Each year, the president of the United States issues a proclamation on this day.

Did you know? Federal law requires facilities to fly the POW/MIA flag on the following days:

  • Armed Forces Day, May 16
  • Memorial Day, May 25
  • Flag Day, June 14
  • Independence Day, July 4
  • National POW/MIA Recognition Day, 3rd Friday of September
  • Veterans Day, Nov. 11

You will also notice the POW/MIA flag flown at all US Post office buildings, Veterans Administration, military memorial facilities, and many U.S. government buildings. Likewise, you can and should fly it on your flagpole, too.

How to Observe National POW/MIA Recognition Day

Consider this a somber observance due to the fact that these military personnel have not come home. As a result, their loved ones have not had closure..

  • Please take a few moments today, to remember our missing soldiers, and those held as prisoners of war.

  • Attend a ceremony in your area.

  • Say a prayer for POWs and MIAs.

  • Also, write to your senators and congressman to urge continued and increased effort towards bringing every serviceman and servicewoman home.

  • Fly the POW/MIA flag.

National and World Play-Doh Day

When is World Play-Doh Day? September 16 holiday.

About World Play-Doh Day

When is World Play-Doh Day Celebrated? This special day is a September 16 holiday.

Now here’s a holiday that just can’t be limited to being “national” in scope. Play-Doh is a popular child’s toy around the world. Originally, it was named National Play-Doh Day. However, in 2015, Hasbro Toys, the creator of this special day, wisely changed the title of this holiday to World Play-Doh Day. They believe emphatically that this childhood toy belongs to the whole world. This holiday is celebrated annually on September 16.

Both World Play-Doh Day and National Play-Doh Day celebrate a great childhood play toy. Play-Doh was invented in the mid-1950s. It has entertained millions of children, allowing them to express their creativity, both at home and in the classroom.

The invention was simple. A schoolteacher wanted a safe modeling clay for her pre-schoolers. She asked her brother-in-law Joseph McVicker, who worked at a chemical company, to come up with something. The result was simple….flour, water, and food coloring.

Did You Know? In 1998, Play-Doh was inducted into the Toy Hall of Fame in Rochester, NY.

How to Celebrate World Play-Doh Day

It’s fun and easy to celebrate World Play-Doh Day and National Play-Doh Day. Simply pull out the Play-Doh and ……Play! There are other brands of play clay on the market. However, having raised three children, this author has never seen a better brand.

Also, another way to celebrate is to give this modeling clay out to children you know.

History and Origin of Play-Doh Day

Joseph McVicker of Kutol Chemicals in Cincinnati, Ohio created Play-Doh in 1955. Originally, Play-Doh was used as a wallpaper cleaning product. It hit the market in 1956 and has been a popular play toy ever since. Then, McVicker’s sister-in-law Kay Zufall, a nursery school teacher, asked McVicker to repackage it and market it as a child’s toy. She wanted a safe, clay-like product for her nursery school children to use. Noah and Joseph McVicker received U.S. Patent No. 3,167,440 for Play-Doh.

Hasbro Toys, the current makers, say it a little differently. On their website, they state: “The story of Play-Doh modeling compound begins in 1956 when scientists at Rainbow Crafts, a Cincinnati soap and cleaning compound company, stumbled upon a new use for the unique dough-like cleaning product. The company realized this product’s potential as a child’s modeling compound; and thus, the original, reusable compound was born.”

Also, in 2006, Hasbro changed the title to World Play-Doh Day to recognize the toy’s popularity around the world.

In the years that it was titled a national day, we found no congressional or presidential proclamation making it a true national day.
