Lemon Lime Jello Cake Ingredients

1 package lemon cake mix

1 large package of lime jello

Whipped topping

Candy Sprinkles

How to Make Lemon Lime Jello Cake Directions

  1. Bake the cake in a 9-by-13-inch pan according to the directions on the box.

  2. Remove from oven and allow to cool for 15-20 minutes.

  3. While the cake is cooling, mix the jello according to the directions, and allow it to cool. But, do not chill.

  4. Use a meat fork or chopsticks to poke holes into the cake, every 1/2 inch. Holes should go all the way through to the bottom of the pan.

  5. Pour cooled jello on top of the cake. The jello will seep into the cake through the holes.

  6. Place the cake into the refrigerator for 3-4 hours, so the jello will set.

  7. Remove from refrigerator and top with whipped topping.

  8. Sprinkle candy sprinkles over topping.

  9. Serve cool.

2 pounds lamb shoulder, cubed

8 medium potatoes, sliced, unpeeled

3 onions, sliced

2 carrots, peeled, sliced into wheels

2 tablespoons chopped, fresh parsley

1 tablespoon chopped, thyme or 1 teaspoon dried thyme

1 Bay Leaf

2 cups water

Salt and pepper, to taste

How to Make Traditional Irish Stew Directions

  1. Trim excess fat from meat. Then, cut the meat into cubes.

  2. Put sliced potatoes, onions, carrots, and celery into a large stew pot.

  3. Add cubed meat.

  4. Add parsley, thyme, bay leaf, salt and pepper.

  5. Add water to the pot.

  6. Cover the pot and bring the contents to a boil.

  7. Reduce heat to simmer.

  8. Stir occasionally.

  9. Simmer stew until meat is tender, about 1 1/2 hours.

  10. Add a little water to keep the broth level up.

  11. Remove from heat and serve hot.

2 cups all-purpose flour

5 tablespoons sugar

1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

3/4 teaspoon baking soda

3 tablespoons butter, softened

1 cup buttermilk

2/3 cup raisins

How to Make Irish Soda Bread Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. Spray an 8-inch-diameter cake pan with cooking oil spray.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, 4 tablespoons of sugar, baking powder, salt, and baking soda.
  4. Add butter and mix together until coarse.
  5. In a second bowl, add buttermilk.
  6. Gradually stir dry ingredients into milk to blend.
  7. Mix in raisins.
  8. Shape the dough into a ball.
  9. Place dough onto the cake pan and flatten slightly. Do not bring the dough to the edges of the pan.
  10. Sprinkle dough with the remaining 1 tablespoon sugar.
  11. Bake the bread for 40 minutes, until brown. Use a toothpick to test for doneness.
  12. Cool bread in the pan for 10 minutes.
  13. Transfer to a wire rack.
  14. Serve warm or at room temperature with butter or margarine.

Do you know how to wash a turkey? It’s a cinch. Washing a turkey in preparation for roasting or frying is a simple and easy task. Both fresh and frozen turkeys should be washed both inside and out with cold water before stuffing and cooking them. It doesn’t take long.

Here are the simple steps to wash a turkey after it is thawed out:

  • Remove the turkey from the plastic wrapping.
  • Remove the neck and giblets from the cavity.
  • Wash both the inside and outside of the turkey in cold water.
  • Drain any excess water.
  • Check the outside skin. Remove any feathers or parts of them that are still attached to the skin.
  • Now comes the yucky part. Yet, it is an important step. Reach into the cavity and feel around for any veins that may have been missed before packaging. Remove them from the cavity.
  • If you are using the neck and giblets or in another recipe, wash and drain them, too.

Your bird is now ready to stuff and roast or fry.

Important: To eliminate the risk of harmful bacteria, always use soap and water to wash your hands, utensils, sink, and all work surfaces.

How to Thaw a Thanksgiving Turkey

You’re planning to roast or fry a turkey for Thanksgiving or another event. First, you have to decide whether to get a fresh or a frozen turkey. If you’ve decided to buy a fresh turkey, then all you need to do is prepare and cook the bird. Fresh turkeys should be bought just before you are going to use them. Then, you need to know the turkey thawing time, so you know when to remove it from the freezer. Armed with the knowledge of how long to thaw a turkey, you are ready to begin your Thanksgiving preparations.

For the vast majority of us, we go to our local grocery store and buy a frozen turkey. It can be purchased days, weeks, or even months in advance. If you are not going to immediately thaw and cook it, place it in the freezer immediately when you get home.

As Thanksgiving approaches, it’s time to take it out of the freezer and safely thaw it out. There are a few basic ways to thaw a turkey. And, there’s definitely a wrong way to do it. There’s actually a third way to thaw a turkey…. in the microwave. However, most turkeys do not fit inside of a microwave.

First, let’s talk about the wrong way. Never thaw a turkey by leaving it on the counter. At room temperature, bacterial growth is maximized. Thawing from the outside in, bacteria multiplies on the warm, outer surface. This can make you and everyone who eats it very sick.

Did You Know? You can refreeze a partially thawed turkey as long as ice crystals are still in the cavity. Note: refreezing the turkey can affect flavor, texture, and juiciness.

To safely thaw a turkey, it can be thawed either in the refrigerator or in cold water.

Turkey Thawing Time in the Refrigerator

Thawing a turkey in the refrigerator is easy. And, it’s the safest way to thaw a turkey. But,it takes time. Keep the turkey in its original wrapping. Place a pan under it, to capture any leaks or moisture from condensation. Allow enough time for the turkey to thaw out in the refrigerator using the chart below.

Your turkey is properly thawed, when there are still a few ice crystals in the inside cavity.

Turkey Thawing Time in Cold Water

Thawing a turkey in cold water can be done fairly quickly. But, it takes more effort. The day before you are going to cook the bird, take it out of the freezer and check for tears in the plastic wrapper. If you find a tear, put the bird in another plastic bag. Then, put it in the sink and fill it with water. The water should completely cover the turkey. He National Turkey Federation recommends changing the water every 30 minutes. Thawing times are listed in the chart below.

Thanksgiving Day has arrived. Today is all about preparing and enjoying a bountiful feast. And, of course, it is a day to thank God for his many blessings upon you and your family. For many of us, turkey will be the centerpiece of the feast. As a result, you need to review how to roast a turkey and determine the turkey roasting time, so it comes out of the oven perfect for the big meal. You’re up early, to put the bird in the oven for an early afternoon feast. While it is roasting in the oven, you hope to go back to bed for a little more shut-eye, before a day filled with family, friends, food, fun, and football. Use this “How to Roast a Turkey” recipe guide to cook the bird to perfection.

Tip: Plan on 1 to 1/1/2 pounds of turkey per person.

 With all of your family coming over for dinner, the turkey you bought is H-U-G-E. Getting the bird from the refrigerator to the oven is a relatively easy, yet weighty task. Perhaps you should lift weights in the weeks leading to Thanksgiving Day!?

Turkey Roasting Times

It’s Thanksgiving morning and you arose early to put a huge bird into the oven. But, how long does the turkey have to cook? If you’re like me, turkey roasting times is an important factoid that I just don’t commit to memory. So, year after year, I go to this article to refresh my memory.

The size of the bird, and stuffed versus unstuffed, are the largest variables to determine the required turkey roasting time. However, there are other factors involved. So, you can only get an estimate. Therefore, use the cooking times below as a planning guide. Ultimately, your meat thermometer will determine when it is finally done. 

Here are the approximate turkey roasting times when cooked in the oven at 325° F:

Unstuffed Turkey Cooking Time:

4 to 8 pounds (breast only): 1 1/2 to 3 1/4 hours

8 to 12 pounds: 2 3/4 to 3 hours

12 to 14 pounds: 3 to 3 3/4 hours

14 to 18 pounds: 3 3/4 to 4 1/4 hours

18 to 20 pounds: 4 1/4 to 4 1/2 hours

20 to 24 pounds: 4 1/2 to 5 hours

Stuffed Turkey Cooking Time:

6 to 8 pounds (breast only): 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 hours

8 to 12 pounds: 3 to 3 1/2 hours

12 to 14 pounds: 3 1/2 to 4 hours

14 to 18 pounds: 4 to 4 1/4 hours

18 to 20 pounds: 4 1/4 to 4 3/4 hours

20 to 24 pounds: 4 3/4 to 5 1/4 hours

Remember: The internal temperature of a cooked turkey should be 165 ° F.

Directions for How to Roast a Turkey Recipe

There are several steps to cooking the bird to perfection. Here they are: 

  • If you have not yet done so, remove the turkey from its original packaging and wash it. See How to Wash Turkeys.
  • If you plan to stuff the bird just before putting it in the oven, now is the time to do so. Safety recommendations state you should not it the night before
  • Turn the oven on and set it at 325° F. Place the turkey in a roasting pan, breast side up.
  • Brush cooking oil on the turkey. We prefer to use a light coating cooking oil spray, on both sides of the bird.
  • Do not add water. The turkey will produce its juices, the basis for a rich and flavorful gravy.
  • Cover the turkey with heavy-duty aluminum foil. Crimp the aluminum foil all around the roasting pan.
  • Place the turkey in the middle rack of the oven. Now, the wait is on!
  • See the chart above for the approximate turkey roasting time. These are approximate times, as each oven is different, and altitude can be a factor, too.
  • Basting while the turkey is cooking is optional. Some say it’s important, while others find it unnecessary. Basting will not penetrate the skin into the meat. But, it can keep the skin from totally drying out.
  • About 1/2 hour before you think it should be done, remove the aluminum foil. This allows the skin to become crisp and golden in color, creating a picture-perfect turkey.

Is it Done Cooking?

  • It is important to use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature.
  • The turkey is done when the internal temperature is 165° F in the center. 
  • Test for doneness. Insert a meat thermometer into the thickest part of the thigh, without touching the bone.
  • Remove from the oven and allow a 20 to 30 minute resting time before cutting and serving. In the meantime, cover the bird with aluminum foil.
  • Now, your perfectly roasted turkey is ready to slice and serve!

Important Note: After roasting a turkey, the resting time allows the juices to be redistributed throughout the meat.

If you want to find out how to stuff a turkey, you’ve landed on the right internet recipe page. Thanksgiving is fast-approaching, and you’ve pulled out the cherished family turkey stuffing recipe. Now, you must decide whether to bake it in a separate dish or put the stuffing inside the bird, to bake inside the turkey.

If you stuff your turkey, it is recommended that you do so in the morning, immediately before putting it in the oven. This minimizes the risk of harmful bacteria growing in a stuffed turkey overnight. You can make the stuffing the night before and refrigerate it separately, to save time in the morning.

Tip: Plan to make about 3/4 cups of stuffing for each pound of turkey.

Here are the steps for safely stuffing a turkey:

  • Prepare the stuffing using your favorite family recipe.
  • Wash the turkey.
  • Stuff the body and neck cavities lightly, as stuffing expands during cooking.
  • You can bake extra stuffing separately.
  • Close the neck cavity, using long poultry roasting needles.
  • Stuffing in the body cavity is usually contained when the leg bones are put back in place.
  • Leaving a little stuffing exposed, creates a traditional, picture-perfect look to the finished turkey.
  • Leftover stuffing can be baked separately in a glass baking pan. Cover it with aluminum foil,  and place it in the oven next to the turkey, an hour before the turkey is expected to be done. For a browner appearance, take uncover it about 20 minutes before it is done.  

Important: To eliminate the risk of harmful bacteria, use soap and water to wash hands, utensils, sink, and all work surfaces.

  5. Place the crabs into the basket and add crab seasoning, if desired.
  6. Place the basket inside the steam pot.
  7. Put the lid on tightly.
  8. Check the water level from time to time, to assure it does not all evaporate.
  9. Plan on 15-20 minutes steaming time, longer if you have a lot of crabs in the pot.
  10. As the crabs are near being done, steam will start to come out from under the lid.
  11. Continue to steam for another 5 to 10 minutes.
  12. When cooked, the top shell of the crabs will be a shade of orange.
  13. Just before the crabs are done, melt ample amounts of butter.
  14. Remove cooked crabs from the steam pot and serve hot.
  15. Turn off the steam pot and keep extra crabs in it until ready to serve.

Traditional Lenten Hot Cross Buns Recipe

Description: Hot Cross Buns are popular traditional sweet rolls eaten during the Lenten season. Once Lent is over and Easter arrives, they simply disappear until next year. Everyone likes this seasonal treat. So. make this hot cross buns recipe today.

Hot Cross Buns Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 Tbs. yeast
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1/3 cup butter or margarine, melted, cool
  • 1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 4 eggs
  • 5 cups flour
  • 1 1/3 cups currants or raisins(try half and half)
  • 1 egg white

Hot Cross Bun Glaze Ingredients:

  • 1 1/3 cup confectioner’s sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. finely chopped lemon zest
  • 1/2 tsp. lemon extract
  • 2 Tbs. milk

Directions How to Make Hot Cross Buns Recipe

  1. Heat milk to a very warm, but not hot temperature (100-110°F).

  2. Pour warm milk into a bowl and sprinkle in the yeast.

  3. Mix to dissolve and let sit for 5 minutes.

  4. Stirring constantly, add sugar, salt, butter, cinnamon, nutmeg, and eggs.

  5. Mix in flour gradually.

  6. Knead dough until smooth.

  7. Cover the bowl and let the dough rest for 30 minutes.

  8. Knead dough again until smooth and elastic, about 3 minutes.

  9. Add currants or raisins and knead until well mixed.

  10. The finished dough will be wet and sticky.

  11. Shape the dough into a ball and place it into a buttered dish.

  12. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and let rise overnight in the refrigerator.

  13. Remove dough from refrigerator and let sit at room temperature for about a half-hour.

  14. Lightly grease a baking sheet.

  15. Divide dough into 24 equal pieces.

  16. Shape each bun into a ball and place it on a baking sheet, 1/2″ apart.

  17. Cover with a clean kitchen towel. Let the dough rise to about double in size.

  18. Preheat oven to 400° F.

  19. After the buns have risen, use a knife to slash buns with a cross.

  20. Brush buns with egg white and place in oven.

  21. Bake for 10 minutes, then reduce heat to 350° F.

  22. Bake until golden brown, about 15 minutes more.

  23. Cool buns on a wire rack.

  24. Mix together glaze ingredients.

  25. Use glaze to make the sign of the cross on the tops.

  26. Serve warm or cool.
