As Young As You Feel Day

As Young as You Feel Day. March 22 holidays

About As Young As You Feel Day

When is As Young As You Feel Day? This holiday is always celebrated on March 22

All of a sudden you wake up one day and realize you’re not a kid anymore. Lately, you’ve noticed that you’re acting more and more like your parents. You’re doing the things people your age are expected to do. But, you feel great, and certainly you are not as old as the age printed on your driver’s license. Fortunately for you, As Young As You Feel Day has arrived on the calendar. This March 22 holiday gives you the opportunity to change your attitude on life for the younger, and for the better.

In our early childhood, we looked forward to getting older. Each year, we couldn’t wait for the next birthday to arrive. As we progress through our teenage years, we began to look forward to being an adult and the freedom that it brings. For example, reaching the legal drinking age is cause for a huge celebration. Our twenties are perhaps some of the best years of our lives. We’re young, healthy, energetic, adventuresome, and enjoying all the benefits of early adulthood. Then, we reach our 29th birthday, and all of a sudden, we’re thinking “29 and holding”.  It’s the age when many of us want to stay right here forever.

Time continues relentlessly, and all of a sudden we reach that age when we begin to wish we were younger for a whole bunch of reasons. The years march on and pile up. Finally, we begin to act and feel our age. We no longer seek the exciting and carefree activities and behaviors of our youth.  Sometimes we act the way we do, simply because we feel “That’s the way Grandmas are supposed to act”.

Well, thank God As Young as You Feel Day has arrived to bring youthfulness back into our lives.

Age is Just a Number. How Old do You Feel?

Age is just a number, nothing more. Being a Centenarian is about chronological age. Being as young as you feel is not about these calendar benchmarks, it is a whole lot more. It’s breaking the stereotype of how a person your age is supposed to behave. Our hero and idol on this day is former President George H. Bush, who at the age of 90 years young parachuted out of an airplane. If President Bush can do that, certainly you can break the shackles of your inhibitions by going out and doing something really exciting.

With the arrival of As Young As You Feel Day, it’s time to lose your inhibitions. Anything goes. Don’t limit your behaviors to how other people think you should behave at this age in your life. As the saying goes, “Sixty is the new Forty”. That means 80 is the new 60. Today is the day to start doing the things that make you feel younger. Go out dancing. Stay out late. Do you want to go on a zip line or scuba dive? Go for it!

How to Celebrate As Young As You Feel Day

Tom and Ruth Roy, the creators of this special and fun day, got it right when they said “Now more than ever you are as young as you feel. So stop acting your chronological age and get out there and start feeling peppy.”

You can also:

  • Act immature and childish on this day. It is certain to make you feel younger.
  • Do things you stopped doing twenty or thirty years ago.
  • Don’t let anyone say to you: “Act your age”.

Worship Tools Day

When is Worship Tools Day? This holiday is always observed on March 11

You’re gonna love this March 11 holiday. There are few things that the male population worships more than his tools. Power tools, hand tools, yard, and garden tools, we love them all. Got duplicates? No problem as you can’t have too many tools. To some guys, any tool is a natural extension of their arm. So, Worship of Tools Day is a logical day of celebration for every male. And, it’s not just a guy thing. More than a few ladies love them and participate in this day, too. Many ladies love to work with tools in their hands and find today to be an important holiday.

Need a birthday or Christmas gift idea for one of the boys in the family? You’re never lacking for tool ideas when you visit your local hardware store. However, it does pay to ask him for a list, as chances are he already has a toolbox or two full of them. And, if you do buy something he already has, no problem. Every guy starts out with one flathead screwdriver and one Philips screwdriver. Years later, he’s got a couple dozen screwdrivers of varying sizes and types. Yet, there’s still another one on his list. The same goes for other tools. You just can’t have enough.

Celebrate today by working with tools and buying a couple of new ones. Receiving a tool as a gift today makes this truly a special day.

Song of the Day: If I Had a Hammer

Favorite Television Show: Home Improvement

How to Celebrate Worship Tools Day

There are so many ways you can celebrate and enjoy this very special holiday. Here are some ideas:

  • Begin today by cleaning and sharpening your existing tools.
  • Start a project that requires tools. The more needed for the project, the better.
  • Rearrange them.
  • Buy a new tool chest.
  • Buy that power tool you’ve been wanting.
  • Give a tool as a gift to someone.
  • Spring is coming. Get out the lawn and garden tools.

Today's Laugher

“Electricity can be dangerous. My nephew tried to stick a penny in a plug. Whoever said a penny doesn’t go far didn’t see him shoot across that floor. I told him he was grounded. ” – – Tim Allen

History and Origin of Worship Tools Day

This special day was created in the 1990s on the comedy television show Home Improvement. In the show, Tim (Tim Allen) the “Tool Man” Taylor, and his sidekick Al Borland (Richard Kam) were always having humorous adventures with tools. Reference to a Worship of Tools Day was mentioned in an episode, and a new holiday was born.

Some internet websites add the word “National” to the title. In the show, the proper name given to this day did not use the word “National”. Also, we did not find any congressional records or presidential proclamations for this day.

About World Sparrow Day

When is World Sparrow Day? This holiday is always observed on March 20

If you are in the country of India today, there are celebrations and special events all over the country to celebrate World Sparrow Day. It is also celebrated in Europe and to a lesser degree Africa. The holiday is catching on in the United States and the rest of North and South America. We hope after you read this article, you will put this special March 20 holiday on your calendar and help to spread the word about sparrows and World Sparrow Day.

World Sparrow Day is an international initiative promoted and sponsored by the Nature Forever Society of India and the Eco-Sys Action Foundation of France. These two organizations recognize the declining populations, especially in big cities. They are also concerned about the negative impact of a changing environment on these birds. The goal of this special day is to raise public awareness about sparrows and celebrate the relationship between sparrows and humans.

Sparrows are a popular bird at your backyard bird feeder, especially in winter when food sources dwindle as winter progresses. Bird watchers are thrilled by their presence. Sparrows often visit bird feeders in waves. They crowd the bird feeder and the ground in search of high-energy seeds. A large population of sparrows can empty the seeds in your feeder in a single day.

How to Celebrate World Sparrow Day

  • Celebrate World Sparrow Day by setting up a bird feeder and watching them.
  • Have your camera nearby.
  • You are also encouraged to create and participate in special events celebrating and educating people about sparrows.
  • If there is no special event in your area, organize one!

World Poetry Day

When is World Poetry Day? This holiday is always observed on March 21

UNESCO declared World Poetry Day at its 30th meeting in Paris in 1999. Their goal is to recognize the uniqueness of poetry to capture the human spirit. According to their website, the purpose of this March 21 holiday is to “support linguistic diversity through poetic expression and increasing the opportunity for endangered languages to be heard.”.

Poetry makes the world go round, making it a much better place in which to live. Poetry is an extremely important and powerful art form. Humans have been writing poems for thousands of years. When we think about poetry, romance and love is what first comes to mind for most people. But, poetry is so much more. Poetry is a linguistic expression of just about anything: feelings, emotions, values, hopes, dreams, messages, and more. It addresses, war, peace, sickness, health, fear, happiness, and anxiety, to name just a few. Yes, poems are written about any subject you can imagine.

While we often think poems should rhyme, there are plenty that do not. There are over a dozen types of poems. The most well know are sonnets, Haiku, Limericks, ballads, odes, and free verse.

Are you ready to create your first poem, but don’t know how to begin? We’ll help you out. Begin with “Roses are red. Violets are blue………” The rest is up to you!

About the World Day of Prayer

When is the World Day of Prayer? This holiday is observed on the first Friday in March

World Day of Prayer is today. Christians in over 170 countries around the world pray for the theme of the current year. The world and all of its inhabitants can certainly use all of the prayers they can get. In the U.S., this holiday is sponsored by “Church Women United”, a Christian group of women that strives to work for justice and peace.

The origin of World Day of Prayer dates back to 1887, when Mary Ellen Fairchild James, a Methodist from Brooklyn, NY called for a day of prayer for home missions. Fairly quickly most Christian religions began their own Day of Prayer. In 1927 it became the World Day of Prayer and the date was formally established as the first Friday in March. Oddly, it wasn’t until 1967, as a result of the Second Vatican Council, that Catholics were allowed to participate.

Each year, Church Women United selects a women’s group from different parts of the world, to write a prayer service for the day. Then, everyone, men and women alike are encouraged to attend a prayer service using what the group wrote.

Did you Know? Planning for the prayer service actually begins three years in advance. A theme is selected for the service. Each year a different country writes the prayer for all to use at the service.

World Backup Day

Laptop Computer. National Inventors Day, February 11 holiday. World Backup Day. March 31 hoiday

When is World Backup Day? This holiday is always observed on March 31

World Backup Day reminds us how important backups are for information, equipment and systems, and for people in their jobs and the many other important roles they serve. Use this March 31 holiday as a very important reminder to secure vital files, by making a backup copy. In addition to your computer files, use this March 31 holiday to back up your paper files, too.

In today’s world, nearly everything is on an electronic file stored in your cell phone or computer. At the same time, life is so busy and fast-paced, that many of us do not take the time to back up our files. Just imagine how you’d feel if you do not have those precious photos stored in a backup file or up in The Cloud. If you don’t back up those important files and documents on your computer, a system crash can cause you many hours to re-creating them. And, when it comes to photos, you just can’t recreate them.

Backups are essential. If your computer hard drive goes bad, you’re in deep trouble with a recent backup file. Those second and third-string players on a sports team can be the difference between making the playoffs or watching them on television. Who is your backup at your job? Can they operate if you are out ill or on vacation? Sometimes not. Backup lie support systems are vital for astronauts.

So, this special day encourages us to stop and back up all of our files. Yes, do it now. It only takes a few minutes.

How to Celebrate World Backup Day

  • Back up your computer files today.
  • Set up a plan to conduct regular and routine backups of your important computer and paper files.
  • Make sure you have a backup for your job and any important positions and roles you have. Train them well.
  • If you are a backup in any capacity, recognize your importance.
  • Do you have any vital equipment or systems in your home or at work? Consider obtaining a backup, as you see fit.
  • Does your home have a backup generator?Isn’t it time you had one?

National Weed Your Garden Day

Crabgrass. When is Weed Appreciation Day? March 28 holiday.

About National Weed Your Garden Day

When is National Weed Your Garden Day? This holiday is always celebrated on June 13

Today is Weed Your Garden Day. Most likely, you are already spending copious amounts of time attacking the weeds in our gardens. However, if there is so much as a single unwanted plant out in your garden, use this June 13 holiday to pluck it.

Left unchecked, weeds quickly choke out many garden flowers and vegetables. At the very least, the competition they give for sunlight, water, and nutrients causes your plants to be less productive. The purpose of this special day is to spend an extra 5-10 minutes weeding your garden. When I found out about this goal, I just laughed! An extra five or ten minutes would barely put a dent in a garden my size. But, ‘ya never know, this might be just the incentive some garden procrastinators need, to get out and pull the weeds.

Are you ready to participate in this special day!? Then, go out to your garden and start pulling those pesky weeds. By definition, a weed is any plant that is unwanted in your garden. This definition includes plants that are otherwise edible, serve medicinal purposes, and those that produce flowers. Some examples of edible weeds are Dandelions and Purslane. We all know that milkweed has medicinal benefits. But, we do not want them in the garden. And, then there are many colorful wildflowers that make their way into our vegetable gardens, where they are considered weeds.

Why is it that weeds grow more prolific than our garden flowers and vegetables? Right now, our gardens have been planted for a long enough time, that weeds are growing thickly and rapidly. Weeding is a daily chore. After you complete your weeding, lay down a thick layer of mulch, to suppress the growth of new seeds.

Definition of a Weed

A weed is any plant not in a place where you want it to be. Even edible, medicinal, herbal plants, and even flowers, are weeds if you don’t want them where they pop up. Dandelions are a perfect example. In the lawn, dandelions are weeds. Dandelions are edible. Use them in salads and for dandelion wine.

For example:

  • Flowers can make their way into your vegetable garden where you pull them out, like any other weed.
  • Even a common flower, vegetable, or herb would be considered a weed, in the cracks of your driveway or sidewalk.
  • Only a child considers dandelions in the lawn, to be anything other than a weed.
  • I do not know a single person who likes ragweed in any way, shape, or form.
  • Queen Anne’s Lace is a popular flower in English gardens. In the USA however, it is considered an invasive weed.
  • Has anyone found a use for Tumbleweed?

Now, consider the reverse…..

  • Imagine you are lost in the woods for days with no food or water. You come upon purslane, an otherwise common and pesky weed in the vegetable garden. This leafy, nutritious green is quite edible and may help to save your life.
  • If you love your salad greens, then the tender inner leaves of dandelion plants belong in your fresh garden salad. It does not belong in your lawn. It may belong in your garden as a salad green.
  • Dandelions are certainly not a weed if you are a vintner and want to make dandelion wine.
  • Weeds offer food and shelter to birds and wildlife.
  • Many weeds produce an attractive flower.
  • Some weeds offer actual or potential medicinal value. Imagine if an obnoxious weed in your flower garden is someday identified as a cure for cancer or the common cold.

How to Celebrate National Weed Your Garden Day

It is very easy to celebrate this holiday:

  • Go out to the garden and spend time removing weeds.
  • If you have edible weeds, don’t send them to the composter. Rather, make a meal of them.
  • Consider using a thick layer of mulch or compost around your plants to minimize weeds. All about mulch.

Weeding Tip: Soak the soil before weeding. It will be easier to pull the roots out.

History and Origin of National Weed Your Garden Day

Our research has yet to discover the creator of this special day, or why it was created. This is surprising, as this is a new holiday.

The earliest reference to this special day only dates to around 2015.

Like so many recent holidays, the title calls it a “National” day. However, we found no documentation supporting this to be a formal “National” day, which requires a presidential proclamation, or an act of Congress. We did not find any official government recognition of this day.

When you look at a Dandelion, what do you see? A flower, a vegetable, or a weed? Well, it’s all a matter of personal perspective. About Weed Appreciation Day

When is Weed Appreciation Day? This holiday is always celebrated on March 28

Today is Weed Appreciation Day, a March 28 holiday. It’s a day to go out and hug the common weeds found in your lawn or garden. Why appreciate weeds, you ask? What possible good can they be? Read on………..

Common weeds do offer some benefits. They provide the very oxygen that you breathe. Weeds take in the carbon dioxide that you exhale. Many weeds offer food and shelter for birds and wildlife. And they make good garden compost if they have not yet produced seeds.

Take some time today, to hug your weeds, water your weeds, fertilize them, or do whatever you prefer to do to enjoy them. As for me, I’m going to celebrate this special day by pulling them from my garden.

We hope you and your weeds have a very happy Weed Appreciation Day!

Definition of a Weed

A weed is any plant not in a place where you want it to be. Even edible, medicinal, herbal plants, and even flowers, are weeds if you don’t want them where they pop up. Dandelions are a perfect example. In the lawn dandelions are weeds. Dandelions are edible and are used in salads and for dandelion wine.

Thought for Today

“What is a weed? A plant whose virtues have never been discovered.” – – Ralph Waldo Emerson

History and Origin of Weed Appreciation Day

Our research did not find the creator or the origin of this day. It appears to be very recent, around 2015.

There is so much about this day that we would like to ask the creator…. like why is it celebrated in the middle of March, which is before the gardening season begins in many parts of the country? Perhaps, it is because we can better appreciate weeds in the month of march when they are not choking out our garden plants.

While many websites have begun calling this National Weed Appreciation Day, neither congress nor the president have made a proclamation. We are so grateful the “National” tag was not formally applied to the title of this special day. Had the president or congress considered this, the ensuing debate would have found them lost in the weeds. And, so many other special days are far more worthy of a Presidential proclamation or act of congress.
