Today is a great day to tap dance the night away…. and the daytime, too!

This day was created in honor of the birthday of legendary tap dancer Bill “Bojangles” Robinson on May 25, 1878. But, he wasn’t the only person to tap dance into history. There are many more (see below).

Space Day, When is World UFO Day. Create a Vacuum Day

About Star Wars Day

When is Star Wars Day? This holiday is always celebrated on May 4

Today is Star Wars Day, a May 4 inter-galactic holiday. It exists all because of a play on words! This holiday is held on May the Fourth, because of a famous quote from the hugely popular science fiction series blockbuster, “May the Force (Fourth) be with you”.

The franchise produced 12 movies in all. It includes three sets of trilogies (9 films). In addition, there are two standalone films and one animated movie. This franchise is one of the two greatest sci-fi series ever produced. We will let you debate whether Star Wars or Star Trek is the greatest). It features numerous heroes, including Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, Princess Leia, the Wookie, and countless others. There is no shortage of bad guys either. Among them are Darth Vader, Kylo Ren (Formerly Ben Solo), and of course the Evil Emperor.

Did You Know? Some call this holiday Luke Skywalker Day. But, this day is about much more than just one character in this greatest epic movie series of all time.

How to Celebrate Star Wars Day

Great ways to celebrate Star Wars Day:

  • Watch any of the great Star Wars movies.
  • Better still, have a Star Wars marathon, and watch two or three (or 4) of them.
  • Get out your laser sword and practice for the next invasion from the Evil Empire.
  • Send an Ecard – of course, they have them!
  • Have a costume party. Can I be the Wookie?
  • Learn some Star Wars Trivia, there’s no shortage.
  • Greet people by saying “May the fourth be with you!”

Famous Star Wars Quotes

“Do or do not. There is no try”.   …Yoda

“Never tell me the odds.” – – Han Solo

“You don’t need to see his papers. These aren’t the Droids you’re looking for.” – – Obi-Wan Kenobi

“I have a bad feeling about this.” – – Luke Skywalker

“Use the force, Luke.” – – Obi-Wan Kenobi

“In my experience, there is no such thing as luck.” – – Obi-Wan Kenobi

“No longer certain that one ever does win a war, I am.” – – Yoda

Outer Space

History and Origin of Star Wars Day

While we are so glad that this day exists, its creation was a fluke. In 2005, a German News TV channel N24 interview erroneously translated this famous Star Wars quote. In German, “May the force be with you”, was incorrectly interpreted as “We are with you on May 4th”. We do believe, that if this error had not occurred, someone, somewhere would have created this day.

Sea Monkey Day

About National Sea Monkey Day

When is National Sea Monkey Day? This holiday is always celebrated on May 16

It’s National Sea Monkey Day. This amazing May 16 holiday celebrates an amazing, novelty aquatic pet that comes alive when placed in water. Children and adults are fascinated by these creatures, that almost instantly are born when placed in water. Sea monkeys have fascinated children and adults for decades. Ask any adult if they ever had one as a child. They will almost definitely tell you they received a sea monkey kit for Christmas or their birthday.

The creation and marketing of sea monkeys is nothing short of marketing genius. They created a must-have sea monkey kit that includes a small tank, a packet containing the eggs of soon-to-be sea monkeys, and food for them. The most amazing marketing genius was in selecting the name.  The marketers called them “Sea Monkeys”. However, they are not monkeys at all. Rather, they are brine shrimp, a not-so-attractive name. The sea monkey kits are a long-term product success, as parents and grandparents can’t resist giving the kits to children as gifts.

If you have never had a sea monkey pet as a child, what are you waiting for? It’s National Sea Monkey Day, so go out and buy a kit for yourself!

How to Celebrate and Participate in National Sea Monkey Day

Here are some ways to participate in National Sea Monkey Day:

  • Buy a sea monkey kit and watch them grow.
  • Spend time with your new pet.
  • Give a kit to a child.
  • See if you can teach your sea monkey pet to do tricks. Good luck!

Save Your Hearing Day

When is take it in the Ear Day, Listening, one of five senses. December 8 holidays.

About Save Your Hearing Day

When is Save Your Hearing Day? This holiday is always celebrated on May 31

Save Your Hearing Day reminds us that our hearing is vital and needs to be protected. Hearing loss accumulates over our lives, as high decibel levels slowly damage our ears. With effort, hearing loss can be minimized and delayed by what we do now and every day. This May 31 holiday encourages us to reduce the noise levels that reach our ears.

Many hearing loss problems are avoidable. Hearing loss can result from a variety of reasons, including health, genetic and environmental causes. On the environmental side, repeated long-term exposure to loud, high-decibel noises can over time cause hearing loss. This cause, in particular, is often avoidable.

Follow the 60:60 Rule: So many people, especially younger people, spend countless hours listening to their electronic devices. To save your hearing, turn the music to 60 percent of its total volume level and listen to it for no more than 60 minutes per day.

Heard at a nursing home: It’s hard to be nostalgic when you can’t remember anything.

How to Celebrate and Participate in Save Your Hearing Day

Here are some ways to participate in Save Your Hearing Day:

  • Learn what you can do to avoid hearing loss to yourself and your family. Then, practice it
  • Lower the decibel level in your life.
  • Turn down the volume on your electronic devices, television, and radio.
  • Wear earplugs when mowing the lawn.
  • Wear earplugs anytime you are in a loud environment at home or work.
  • If you are or suspect you’re having trouble with your hearing, consult a hearing specialist.
  • Listen to the birds sing. Can you hear them?

Today's Quote

“The most important thing in communication is hearing what isn’t said.” – – Peter Drucker

History and Origin of Save Your Hearing Day

Our research did not find the creator or the origin of this day. We suspect a medical group or deaf association may have started this day.

One reader suggests that the following event may have something to do with the creation of this special day: “On May 31, 1976, The Who played at the Charlton Athletic Grounds in England and made the Guinness Book of World Records as the loudest rock band ever. Their musical performance measured 76,000 watts and 120 decibels. “

Rhinoceros Day

About Save the Rhino Day

When is Save the Rhino Day? This holiday is always celebrated on May 1

Save the Rhino Day is today, a May 1 holiday. This day encourages us to be aware of, and support efforts to save the Rhinoceros from extinction. Rhinos have roamed the earth for over a million years. In the early 20th century, there were over 500, 000of these one-horned beats. Now, they number between 27,000 – 30,000. Some species are now extinct. Hunting and destruction of their habitat are the key reasons for their plunging population.

The Rhinoceros is a fascinating creature. Native to Africa and Asia, this leftover from the age of Dinosaurs was hunted to near extinction. Hunters on safaris killed Rhinos just for sport. Poachers hunt them for their horns. The horn is used as medicine, and for making knife handles, carved statues, and other objects. Animal rights groups have helped to save this animal from extinction, and their numbers have rebounded somewhat.

Did you know? The horn of the Rhinoceros is composed of the same material as your fingernail.

Rhinoceros Trivia

Here is some Rhinoceros Trivia:

  • Rhinoceros means “nose horn”.
  • There are 5 species of rhinos. The African White Rhinoceros has the largest population.
  • A group of rhinos is called a “crash”.
  • They can weigh over 4 tons.
  • They love frolicking in the mud. The mud protects them from the sun and from insect bites.
  • They are herbivores, eating only plants and a lot of them each day.
  • Rhinos can run up to 31 miles per hour.
  • Baby rhinos are nurtured by their mother for three years.
  • They are called “odd-toed ungulates” because they have three large toes.
  • Humans are their only predators.

How to Celebrate Save the Rhino Day

Here are some ways to celebrate and participate in Save the Rhino Day:

  • Watch documentaries on the Rhinoceros.
  • Visit Rhinos at a zoo.
  • Better still, go on a safari to see one!
  • You can also donate to animal rights and conservation groups working towards preserving the Rhinoceros.

About Renewal Day

When is Renewal Day? This holiday is always celebrated on May 4

As spring brings a rejuvenation of nature, so too does Renewal Day for many facets of your life. It’s a day of new and old beginnings. This May 4 holiday is a time of rebirth and regeneration, and to mend and renew relationships with family and friends. It is a re-start, an opportunity to rejuvenate and restore things. Today can be a positive force in making your life better and more complete.

Things get old and out of sorts. We lose touch with friends, loved ones, and relationships. For whatever reason, we “let “it” go. Well, whatever “it” is, today is the day to renew it, rejuvenate it, and bring the spark back into it.

When we think of “renewal”, we often think of relationships. We vow our marriage will never get old. But, it does. We swear we will remain close to our parents and siblings. But over the years, we don’t. With a hug and a tear, we tell our college roommate we will call and write. All too quickly, the demands of everyday life keep us from calling or writing.  …get the picture?

Renewal Day is not limited to renewing relationships and social issues. You can also renew:

  • Your nails
  • Hair color and/or style.
  • Your figure
  • Hardwood floors
  • The shine on your car
  • Your driver’s license
  • A favorite magazine subscription

Get the picture? Good. Now, get into Renewal Day!

How to Celebrate Renewal Day

Here are a few ideas on how to participate in and celebrate this holiday:

  • Recharge and rejuvenate the relationship with the ones you love.
  • Renew your relationship with God. Go to church or read the bible.
  • Remodel your house, inside or out.

“I saw a study that said speaking in front of a crowd is considered the number one fear of the average person. Number two was death. This means to the average person, if you have to be at a funeral, you would rather be in the casket than doing the eulogy.” – – Jerry Seinfeld

History and Origin of Renewal Day

Our research did not find the creator or the origin of this day. There are many references to Renewal Day for certain events, activities, and/or relationships. They are for all sorts of reasons and set on dates all over the calendar. Today is the only general Renewal Day, intended for any and all kinds of renewals.

This holiday is sometimes referred to as a “National” day. However, there are no congressional records or presidential proclamations declaring this a true national day.
