About Because I Can Day

When is Because I Can Day? This holiday is always observed on April 24

Today is a day to be bold and daring. Today is Because I Can Day. You’re just gonna love participating in this April 24 holiday. And, do you know why? Simply because you can! After all the exciting things you do today, Evel Knievel will have nothing over the things you do. Once you experience the joy and rewards of this holiday for the first time, you’ll never need to ask yourself “When is Because I Can Day” again. And, you will find yourself adopting this motto every day of the year.

Has life become a little dull and boring? Are you looking for something new and exciting to do? Perhaps, it’s something risky and daring. It could be something that takes you out of your comfort zone. But, you’ve been hesitant and holding back for a number of reasons. Well, why not do it today simply because you can!?

There are no limits to your activities today. Use “Because I Can” as your motto for the day. When people ask you why you did something, you know your reply. As a matter of fact, no other explanation is required. Perhaps the most fun you’ll have is dreaming up wild crazy, creative, or challenging things to do today. For example, your daring plan to ride a hot air balloon or hang glide is justified by telling yourself and others that it’s “Because I Can”.

The statement by itself says a lot. Using “Because I Can” as your motto is all about attitude. It makes doing almost anything possible. It creates and promotes positive thinking. And, it’s a much more positive statement than “I think I can”. C’mon, whatever it is, you know you can. So, get to it.

When and When Not to Say "Because I Can"

There are times to, and not to use this motto. We leave it to you to choose how best to use it. However, here are a few examples:

When to say “Because I Can”:

  • Up to now, you’ve been too shy to ask that cute redhead in your math class out on a date. Isn’t it time you convinced yourself to ask her out because you can?
  •  It’s hard to take a day off from work. Today you wake up to a beautiful spring day. The golf course is calling. So, you call in a day’s vacation “because you can”.
  • Every year local Boy Scout troops in our area rappel down a thirty-story building. They do so for two reasons. First, it is a fundraiser. Second, because they can.

Used as an excuse, it explains a lot…. or does it!?

  • According to folklore, young George Washington quickly admitted to his father that he chopped down the family’s cherry tree. But when asked why he chopped it down, is it possible that George said “Because I can!?”
  • When a mother asks her young child why she took cookies from the cookie jar without permission, is it okay for the child to say “Because I can!?
  • A young, engaged woman is seen with another man. When her beau asks why, is it okay for her to say: “Because I can”?

When not to say or use “Because I Can”:

  • When a police detective asks a suspect why he did the bank heist,
“Because I Could” might not be a smart reply.
  • When your parents catch you coming in after curfew. this is not an excuse to use if you want to avoid getting grounded.
  • Also, it’s not the excuse to give your boss when he catches you sneaking out of work early.

How to Celebrate Because I Can Day

Certainly, Because I Can Day is destined to become one of your favorite holidays. Participating in this holiday is simple and easy.

  • Do things because you can.
  • Don’t do things because you can choose not to.
  • Encourage others to adopt this motto.
  • Share your experiences on social media.

History and Origin of Because I Can Day

Because I Can Day was created in 2025 by Bob Matthews, owner of HolidayInsights.com. When asked, why he created this holiday, Matthews first said ” Simply, because I can!”. When is National Unicorn Day? April 9 Holidays

About National Unicorn Day

When is National Unicorn Day? This holiday is always observed on April 9

Today is National Unicorn Day. On this April 9 holiday we celebrate the mythical one-horned, horse-like creature and its long-storied legend. Now, we refer to the existence of magical Unicorns as a myth. But, not everyone agrees. Some people believe they once roamed the earth. And, most of us truly wish they were real. Notably, there is no fossil evidence to support their existence. However, there are pictures of them on cave walls from thousands of years ago. And, over those thousands of years, there have been many sightings all over the world.

Do Unicorns exist? Did they ever roam the earth? Or, are they simply a popular myth? Just ask any young girl these questions. She will enthusiastically, say yes! And, many adults believe in their existence, too. Certainly, if you took a survey, about their existence, almost 100% of respondents would say “Yes” or “I hope so”.

What is a Unicorn?

The mythical Unicorn is described as a horse or sometimes as goat-like. In early Greek literature, it is a white horse-like creature with a single horn on its head just above the eyes. The horn is conical in shape coming to a point at the tip. The horn is often described as having several different colors. They are a symbol of awe, fantasy, happiness, and wonder.

One-horned creatures are indeed rare. There are only nine animals known to have a single horn on its head. They are:

  • Indian Rhinos
  • Javan Rhinos
  • Naso Fish
  • Narwhals – The Unicorns of the Sea.
  • Cassowaries
  • Horned Silkworm
  • Rhinoceros Beetles
  • Rhino-horned Lizards
  • Unicorn Crestfish

Did You Know? The Scientific name for Rhinoceros is Rhinoceros Unicornis.

The Legend of the Unicorn

We all would like to believe Unicorns once existed, and that Noah somehow missed bringing them aboard the Ark before the rains began to fall. Unfortunately, there is no evidence whatsoever that these enchanting creatures once roamed the earth. So, we must conclude they are mythical. And, this is where the legend begins.

Historians believe Unicorn stories and sightings first occurred in early Mesopotamia around 2,000 B.C. Reference to unicorns is found in the ancient writings of several cultures. Also, there are drawings on cave walls. The earliest written references come from India. Descriptions of them were similar to the Indian Wild Ass. They may have been mistaken for Indian Rhinoceros. During the Middle Ages and the Rennaissance.

Each culture described their appearance a little differently.  And, they described the behavior and traits similarly, too. Unicorns are known as elusive woodland creatures. Unicorns are very fast and almost impossible to catch. According to legend, a unicorn can only be caught by a virgin. Sorry, we don’t know how a unicorn knows a young girl is a virgin. He probably looks to see if there is a ring on her ring finger. Upon seeing a virgin sitting down, a Unicorn will crawl into her lap. Then, it will quickly fall asleep in the comfort and safety of the virgin’s lap. They shy away from all other people. As a result, few people have ever seen them.

Their horns contain magical properties. It is believed that drinking from their horn will cure epilepsy, it protects you from stomach ailments, and it protects you from poisoning. It also heals other sicknesses, too. The only problem is trying to get a unicorn horn as they don’t like to stand still long enough for you to get their horn..

Movies with Unicorns

What better way to enjoy National Unicorn Day than to watch a movie with them in it!? Usually, these elusive creatures have a short or a cameo role in the movies. Here are a few you may want to watch:

  • Blade Runner (1982)
  • Fantasia (1999)
  • Legend (1986)
  • Stardust (2007)

When is National Orchid Day? This holiday is always observed on April 16

History and Origin of National OrchidDay

In 2010, Mike and Faith Young volunteered at orchid reserve in San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico. They fell in love with orchids. And, they decided that if they were ever blessed with a daughter, they would name her Orchid. Faith Young became pregnant with a girl. But sadly, the girl died during childbirth. To honor her memory, the couple went on to create National Orchid Day in 2015.

About National Coffee Cake Day

When is National Coffee Cake Day? This holiday is always celebrated on April 7

Any time is a great time to bake one of your favorite recipes. Grab your apron and spatula. National Coffee Cake Day has arrived, and it’s destined to be a delicious food holiday. I can almost smell the cinnamon wafting from the kitchen. This April 7 holiday is a great opportunity for you to do a little baking. Then, take a break from your busy day. Coffee cakes are very popular around the world. You can enjoy it for breakfast, or any time of the day. It goes great with coffee. But, not all of us like coffee. It pairs well with tea or a glass of milk, too.

The History and Evolution of Coffee Cake

Cakes were first created by ancient Egyptians. It evolved from sweet bread recipes. From there different kinds of cake and recipes spread to Europe and eventually around the world.

Coffee was introduced to Europeans in the 16th century. There is disagreement as to exactly which century coffee cakes were first made. They were first made in Europe in the 16th or 17th century by confectioners and bakers as the perfect complement to a cup of coffee. It originated in Dresden, Germany. Early coffee cakes were also made near this same time in Denmark. There are varying recipes.

The European coffee cake is a coffee-flavored sponge cake. It consists of two circular layers of cake. After baking it in a bundt pan, the cake is cut in half horizontally to form two circles. The bottom layer is placed on a serving plate. A thick layer of coffee-flavored butter icing is spread on the first layer. Then, you add the second layer of sponge cake on top. Finally, you drizzle streusel on top of the cake. In the United States, a coffee cake is simpler. It has no coffee flavoring in it. It is a heavier, sweet cake topped with a crumbly mixture of cinnamon, sugar, and butter or margarine. In the U.S., it is baked in either a bundt pan or a square 9″ X 9″ pan, depending on how you want to cut and present it.

In both Europe and the United States, some recipes have slightly different base ingredients. And, often fruit or nuts are added.

National Picnic Day

When is Picnic Table Day? July 23 holidays.

About National Picnic Day

When is National Picnic Day? This holiday is always observed on April 23

It is springtime, and every day the weather is getting a little nicer. Is it nice enough in your area to get outside and enjoy it? We sure hope so, as today is National Picnic Day. Grab the paper plates and plastic cutlery. On this lovely April 23 Spring day, we are encouraged to have a fun picnic lunch or dinner. For most of us, it is the first time in several months we can enjoy eating outdoors. I don’t know about you, but the picnic table is calling me. And, today is going to be the first of many days of eating outside.

Picnics can take a wide variety of forms. Spread your food and drinks out onto a picnic table. Or, you can fill a picnic basket with goodies and eat it on a blanket. Add a bottle of wine for a romantic picnic. Have your picnic in your backyard, at a park, or on the beach. Your choice of foods is unlimited, from sandwiches and cold fried chicken, to hot dogs and hamburgers. And, don’t forget the baked beans and watermelon. Drink choices are broad, too. Beer, lemonade, Kool-Aid, and wine are popular choices.

Did of Know?  The word “picnic” comes from the French word “Piquenique”. It was coined in 1692 and refers to social events.

Tea Party on Tea for Two Tuesday

The Evolution of Picnics

The French are credited with holding the first picnic. In 1789 during the French Revolution, Royal Parks were opened to the general public for the first time.  People flocked to the royal parks carrying blankets and baskets of food and wine. Picnics came into being and were quite popular. Their popularity spread to England and other countries in Europe. This form of casual outdoor dining eventually spread across the Atlantic to America. Today, people all over the world celebrate events and reunions with picnics, complete with food, drink, and games.  And, if the weather is inclement, open up the garage door and hold it in the garage protected from the weather.

It doesn’t take much incentive to hold a picnic. They are popular for Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day. In the summer, picnics are a great way to create new memories at family reunions, graduations, neighborhood get-togethers or street parties, anniversaries, birthday parties and so many more events.

For the Record:

In 2000, France set a new picnic record. It was held along 600 miles of coastline.

In 2009, Portugal set a record of 20,000 people at a picnic.

How to Celebrate National Picnic Day

There are so many ways to celebrate and participate in National Picnic Day. Here are a few ideas:

  • Plan an easy meal and eat at the picnic table.
  • Head out to your local park with a blanket and basket filled with goodies.
  • Have a family picnic.
  • Have a block or street party.
  • Hold outdoor games during the picnic.
  • If the weather is still a little cook in your area, hold a picnic around a campfire.

Did You Know? When an ant finds goodies on your picnic table, it leaves a scent as it travels along the way back to its nest. This allows other ants to follow the trail back to your picnic table.

Today's Quotes

“If you go for a stroll, have a picnic or lunch with a glass of wine – it doesn’t get better than that.” – – Meghan Markle

“We hope that, when the insects take over the world, they will remember with gratitude how we took them along on all our picnics.” – – Bill Vaughan

“Death is the sound of distant thunder at a picnic.” – – W.H. Auden

History and Origin of National Picnic Day

Our extensive research has not yet identified the creator of this holiday or why it was created. As a matter of fact, there is very little written about this holiday. We did find a reference to an annual picnic celebration held at UC Davis. Held annually since 1909, this event attracts tens of thousands of participants. But, it is held in May and the organizer’s website offers no connection to National Picnic Day.

It appears that this date was selected as it is springtime in many parts of the country, so we turn our thoughts to outdoor activities like picnics. But, in some areas, it still remains a little too cold for outdoor picnics.

Without any information from the creator of this day, we may never know if this is a true national holiday. We found no documentation in congressional records to confirm that this is truly a national day. Nor, did we find a presidential proclamation.

Beer on Oktoberfest

Berr Trivia - Amaze Your Friends with Your Knowledge

  • Beer is the second most popular beverage in the world, second only to Tea.
  • The first reference to beer dates to around 6,000 BC.
  • The very first documented recipe for beer was on a 4,000-year-old Sumerian tablet containing the Hymn to Ninkasi, a prayer to the goddess of brewing. It is the oldest known documented recipe of any kind!
  • 4,000 years ago in Babylon, a month after a wedding, the bride’s father would supply his new son-in-law with all the mead he could drink. Mead is a honey beer. This period is the “honey month”, hence the term “honeymoon”.
