About Supreme Sacrifice Day

When is Supreme Sacrifice Day? This holiday is always celebrated on March 18

Supreme Sacrifice Day recognizes the ultimate sacrifice made by some for the good of others. History is filled with examples of people who offered the supreme sacrifice for other people. While most often we think of someone who gave their life, the supreme sacrifice could be something non-fatal. Can you think of an example? When you give up something you want or need, you are making a sacrifice. And, sometimes, the sacrifice is extreme. Use this March 18 holiday to remember them, the sacrifice they made, and why.

We offer these examples:

  • Jesus Christ gave the supreme sacrifice when he died on the cross for us.
  • Soldiers in battle gave their lives to protect our freedom, and our way of life, and to keep us safe.
  • Firemen and police officers sometimes give their lives in the line of duty while saving and/or protecting people.
  • More often than you think, a young man or young woman caught up in a love triangle, gave up the chase for the sake of their loved one.
  • A person gives up their job and career to tend to an elderly parent.
  • The list goes on and on and on.

Today is a day to reflect and offer thanks and appreciation to those who made the supreme sacrifice for us.

How to Celebrate Supreme Sacrifice Day

We’ve identified the main objectives of this special day:

  1. You are encouraged to embrace your awkwardness today.
  2. Celebrate and forget past awkward moments.
  3. Share those memorable moments with a friend. Laugh about it.
  4. Stop taking yourself so seriously. Life is too short to dwell on it or remain embarrassed for long.

Submarine Day

Submarine Day

When is Submarine Day? This holiday is always celebrated on March 17

Submarine Day …. does it celebrate the submersible boat or the big hero sandwich? Almost everywhere you find documentation on this day, it hails today as a day to celebrate the boat we commonly call a “sub”. We are certain National Submarine Day, celebrated on April 11, is about military boats, as the U.S. Submarine Force was established on this date in 1900. That leaves us wondering what this March 17 holiday is all about. Perhaps, it is in celebration of hero subs!?

If you work at a deli, it’s perfectly okay to celebrate today with a hero sub of your choice. If you own the deli, give us a deal and run a Sub day special. And in this case, celebrate Submarine Day on March 17.

How to Celebrate Submarine Day

Enjoy Submarine Day by:

  • Watching movies featuring them.
  • While you watch the movie have a submarine sandwich.
  • Reading a book about submarines.
  • If you live near a naval museum, take a drive to see a submarine today, and if allowed, go aboard.

Today's Quote

History and Origin of Submarine Day

Our research did not find the creator, or the origin of this day. We found a number of isolated and local events declared to be Submarine Day. The United Kingdom appears to be the most active country with Submarine Day celebrations.

About Something on a Stick Day

When is Something on a Stick Day? This holiday is always celebrated on March 28

Something on a Stick Day is today, a March 28 holiday. It celebrates things on a stick. Usually, that means food and a different way to eat it. You can have a corn dog, cook a marshmallow or hot dog over the campfire, shish-kababs, and anything else as long as it’s on a skewer or a stick. Isn’t this just a neat day? We thought you’d agree.

So what comes on a stick? Practically anything. The first thing that comes to mind is popsicles and fudgesicles. Hotdogs and marshmallows on a stick are popular at campfires. There are also corndogs, shrimp, shish-kabobs, and many Chinese treats like pot stickers. When you use chopsticks, everything is on a stick! Cocktail wieners and cheese are picked and eaten with a toothpick. It qualifies. Wooden skewers used when cooking on the grill, contain all sorts of meats and vegetables. The list goes on and on.

You can also get just about anything on a stick when receiving food samples at a store or festival.

Celebrate this fun day by serving food for meals and snacks on a stick. The kids will love it. So will you!

BTW: We are glad that today is Something on a Stick Day and not “Something on a Shingle Day!

About National Salesperson Day

When is National Salesperson Day? This holiday is celebrated on the first Friday in March

Today is National Salesperson Day. It recognizes the hard work and importance of salespeople in any sales capacity.

Millions and millions of people spend their entire careers in sales. It’s a hard, tough business, with long hours. Making a sale is not a given. It requires training, building relationships, and personality. Paychecks are not a guarantee. The majority of salesmen and saleswomen are paid on a partial or full commission basis. Their income often goes up and down with the economy. Hardworking salespeople deserve a day of recognition.

The salesforce is a huge part of the American workforce. National Salesperson Day is established to recognize the value of the truly professional salesperson. This day also recognizes the hard work performed by professional salespeople.

Did You Know? There are about 13.5 million people working in sales in the United States. Amazingly, this number is down from over 18 million in 2017. Why? The growth of internet sales has eliminated many sales positions.

Who is a Salesperson?

There are all kinds of salespeople. Some sell to consumers. Other people sell business to business. They sell products, goods, and services. Some salespeople sell advice. The list of people and types of items sold goes on and on.

Here are some of the types of salespeople you know and come in contact with:

  • Register clerks at the grocery store
  • Clerks at your convenience store
  • Door to door salespeople
  • Car salesman
  • Life Insurance agents
  • Mortgage brokers and loan officers
  • Travelling salesman
  • Manufacturer’s reps
  • Crafters at a craft show
  • People holding a garage sale. That’s you!
  • The list goes on and on

How to Celebrate National Salesperson Day

Among the ways to celebrate today are:

  • Let the salespeople you meet today know you appreciate their roles.
  • Give them a tip.
  • Buy them a cup of coffee.
  • Give them a greeting card via snail mail or online.

Today's Quote

“You have to do your own growing no matter how tall your grandfather was.” – – Abraham Lincoln

History and Origin of National Salesperson Day

National Salesperson’s Day was founded by Maura Schreier-Fleming, President of Best@Selling, in March 2000. She is an author, consultant, and speaker for….you guessed it, salesperson training.

We found no documentation in congressional records to confirm that this is truly a national day. Nor, did we find a presidential proclamation.

About Proposal Day

When is Proposal Day? This holiday is always observed on March 20

Ladies and gentlemen, this could be a big, big day. It’s Proposal Day! Valentine’s Day last month came and went. He didn’t, or couldn’t, gather up the nerve to ask you. Along comes this March 20 holiday, and with it another opportunity. For those in love, this could very well be the big day that will change your lives for the better.

Use caution on this day. When he begins by saying: “I would like to propose to you….”,  he may end with “……that we go see a movie.” Remember, it’s Proposal Day. It is a day to make proposals. However, it may not be the one you want to hear.

Important Note: If you don’t want to entertain a proposal today, we suggest that you make yourself sparse.

With all the suggestions about romance on Proposal Day, one must recognize that this day can be about ANY type of proposal. For example, legislators may propose a new law, you might attend a meeting about a new business proposal, or a friend may simply propose that you go to a movie or a ball game.
