Don’t be deceived. Today is the Festival of Smoke and Mirrors Day, or simply called Smoke and Mirror Day. This March 29 holiday is a day of deception and illusions. The term “smoke and mirrors” means something is not really as it appears to be. It’s a deception or something that does not even exist. A magician will often make something appear or disappear out of thin air. People often put up smoke and mirrors to hide something.

Many of us will use any excuse to have a party or festival, so why not hold a Festival of Smoke and Mirrors? We were surprised that we did not discover several actual festivals of this nature. We only found one, and that was in England in 2010. But, who needs historical facts to have fun on a special day? Let’s get out and enjoy Smoke and Mirrors Day to the fullest.

Today is a special day. It is Smart and Sexy Day. This March 13 holiday was created to show women that they can be both smart and sexy. As a matter of fact, being both is a very powerful combination. Strongly promoted by Alliance for Career Development Nonprofits (ACDN), the organization provides job training and employment assistance for both men and women. But, on Smart and Sexy Day, the focus is on women. The organization strives to empower women. Member organizations hold events in support of women.

Smart and sexy are two attributes that perfectly describe you, right!? It sure does, as every woman is cap capable of being both. On this day, ACDN members encourage women to do their best, have confidence, and let their skills shine through.

Today is National Salesperson Day. It recognizes the hard work and importance of salespeople in any sales capacity.

Millions and millions of people spend their entire careers in sales. It’s a hard, tough business, with long hours. Making a sale is not a given. It requires training, building relationships, and personality. Paychecks are not a guarantee. The majority of salesmen and saleswomen are paid on a partial or full commission basis. Their income often goes up and down with the economy. Hardworking salespeople deserve a day of recognition.

The salesforce is a huge part of the American workforce. National Salesperson Day is established to recognize the value of the truly professional salesperson. This day also recognizes the hard work performed by professional salespeople.

Did You Know? There are about 13.5 million people working in sales in the United States. Amazingly, this number is down from over 18 million in 2017. Why? The growth of internet sales has eliminated many sales positions.

You certainly must be kidding, right!? Today is National Crown Roast of Pork Day, a March 7 holiday. You ask, “Why does this day exist?” Well, frankly, we do not know. And, why not just Roast Pork Day? Why does it have to be a crown roast pork?  We do know the answer to this question. But, the day is here, a special day to cook and eat pork. To participate in this day, it must be crown roast pork. Any other type of pork just will not do.

What is a Crown Roast of Pork? Now that we’ve established specifically what this day is, you are probably wondering what Crown Roast of pork is. For starters, it’s not just any pork roast. By definition, it is a bone-in-pork rib loin. The roost is formed and tied into a circle with the rib bones on the outside. The bones are pointed upward.

National Quilting Day celebrates fabulous quilts and those who make them. Historically a lady’s hobby, quilting is a skill that produces warm and beautiful results. Today is a day to recognize and appreciate the quiltmakers, the skill, and the warm results. If you are a quiltmaker, spend a minute to recognize and appreciate that you have truly been blessed with a special skill. If you are not a quilt maker, wrap yourself into a quilt and enjoy the warmth.

There are an estimated 7 to 10 million quilters. While most are women according to a joint study by Quilting in America and Quilts, Inc., about 1% are men.  

Ladies and gentlemen, this could be a big, big day. It’s Proposal Day! Valentine’s Day last month came and went. He didn’t, or couldn’t, gather up the nerve to ask you. Along comes this March 20 holiday, and with it another opportunity. For those in love, this could very well be the big day that will change your lives for the better.

Use caution on this day. When he begins by saying: “I would like to propose to you….”,  he may end with “……that we go see a movie.” Remember, it’s Proposal Day. It is a day to make proposals. However, it may not be the one you want to hear.

Important Note: If you don’t want to entertain a proposal today, we suggest that you make yourself sparse.

With all the suggestions about romance on Proposal Day, one must recognize that this day can be about ANY type of proposal. For example, legislators may propose a new law, you might attend a meeting about a new business proposal, or a friend may simply propose that you go to a movie or a ball game.

Poultry Day celebrates chicken, turkey, and other birds we commonly consume. Chicken, turkey, and many other fowl are lower in fats, and cholesterol than other meats. So, eating them is better for your health. They also give you your breakfast eggs. Thus, enjoy poultry at every meal on this March 19 holiday.

One way to celebrate Poultry Day is to eat eggs for breakfast, a chicken sandwich for lunch, and barbecue chicken for dinner. Don’t forget to cook up some chicken fingers for the kids.

National Potato Chip Day is today, a March 14 holiday. It celebrates the ever-popular potato chip. Potato Chips are America’s #1 snack food. But, it’s not just a snack food. It’s the potato of choice for many lunchtime and dinner meals. Regular (or plain) potato chips are by far the most popular. Other popular flavors are barbecue, sour cream & onion, oil & vinegar, ranch, and more. Of course, you can have regular or Krinkle cut which is great for dips. And let’s not forget kettle-cooked potato chips, which are crisper chips.

Did you Know? Potato chips were first made by Chef George Crum in Saratoga Springs, NY on August 24, 1853. Americans have been in love with them ever since.

Today is Popcorn Lovers Day, or Popcorn Lovers Night, as most of us enjoy it as a nighttime snack. You can use the terms interchangeably for this exciting holiday. Many of us love popcorn. So, it only makes sense that there should be a special day just for popcorn lovers. Bob Matthews the creator of this holiday from Rochester, NY suggests that on this night you “do what lovers do”. And, that’s eat popcorn! 

This is a snack that is good for you when eaten plain. It is not as healthy when it’s loaded with salt and butter. But, all that butter and salt tastes so good. And, you only eat it once a week or so. 

This day is intended to enjoy popcorn and share it with others. Bring some to work. Or microwave some and put it in a basket on your desk.

You can traditionally have it with salt and butter. Or, you can add any one of several flavors to it. Some popular flavors are cheddar cheese, parmesan garlic, and even hot pepper! There is no requirement as to what seasoning to use today, as long as you eat plenty of it. Now, that’s not hard to do, is it!? 

Today is the perfect day to make a big bowl of popcorn and cozy up to your cutie on the sofa, as you watch television this evening. 

The calendar says it is mid-March, the dawn of a new gardening season. It sure has been a long time in coming. Winter has seemed endless. Plant a Flower Day has arrived. This March 12 holiday is a day to finally get a little dirt under your fingernails again. Take a few minutes to plant a flower today.

Gardening is a great hobby. It’s enjoyed by millions of people, old and young alike. It’s a hobby that virtually everyone can participate in, regardless of age, and health. Senior citizens love it, as they can garden long after they give up other hobbies and sports.

Identifying the correct date for celebrating Plant a Flower Day has proved frustrating and a bit futile. As we researched this day, we found multiple dates in March and May for Plant a Flower Day. We found no content sites defining the day and no written documentation. Amazingly, no one claimed to be the creator of this day either.
