About National Outdoor Intercourse Day

When is National Outdoor Intercourse Day? This day is always celebrated on May 8

Today is National Outdoor Intercourse Day (NOIT), a May 8 holiday. It’s a day to get out in the great outdoors and do the nasty. (Why is such a beautiful and pleasurable activity referred to as “the nasty”!?) This special day seems most popular in the Pacific Northwest, where it originated on the college campus of Washington State University. It doesn’t take much encouragement to prompt most people, especially college students, to participate in this day.

Did You Know? Webster’s Dictionary has a second definition of the word “Intercourse”. It means to communicate or interchange of thoughts and ideas”. Using this definition, it is perfectly okay to have intercourse with anyone outdoors, and indoors, too!

The activity for this special day is not intended for public viewing. Judging and prizes are not awarded. But, participants report that excitement over the risk of getting caught or seen heightens the enjoyment.

Determining the Date:

Students suggest we celebrate this day on the 69th day of the year, or “69th of March”. They realized March was not a good month for this kind of outdoor activity, so May 8th was selected. We do not know why they selected this particular date.

Note: As a kid-friendly site, we opted not to display pictures of people enjoying this very special day.

Did You Know?  American English language has evolved over the centuries. In the early days of our nation, politicians and officials used the word “intercourse” to describe communication and social interaction. It eventually evolved to take on a somewhat different meaning, when the word “sexual” was put in front of it.

The bare truth is, we hope everyone thoroughly enjoys National Outdoor Intercourse Day!

The Roots of National Outdoor Intercourse Day

Around 2015, Washington State University banned blankets from the grounds of the campus, for fear that they would use the blankets for reasons other than picnicking. … bad decision. Tell that to a bunch of young college students, and it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to guess how they would react.

How to Participate in National Outdoor Intercourse Day

National Outdoor Intercourse Day is celebrated in a number of ways:

  • Grab a blanket and head on out to your backyard under a clear, blue sky.
  • Have verbal intercourse in the park.
  • Politicians, conduct social intercourse on the issues. Perhaps, you’ll find common ground for an agreement.

History and Origin of National Outdoor Intercourse Day

We found no historical information on the origin of this special day. The author is anonymous. it appears to have originated around 2010 – 2015 by students at Washington State University. Needless to say, the college makes no claim to fame for inadvertently creating this day.

This day is called a “National” day. We did not find any congressional records or presidential proclamations for this day. We certainly hope that neither congress nor the President of the United States would formally and officially attach the “National” title to this day. Unofficially, however…………

National Hot Dog Day

When is National Hot Dog Day? National July Daily Holidays

When is National Hot Dog Day? This holiday is celebrated on the third Wednesday in July

When is National Hot Dog Day you ask? Why, it’s today. Hot diggety dog! On this date, we celebrate one of America’s favorite summer sandwiches. It is only fitting that every dog has its’ day.

Its summertime. Hot dogs are center stage on the grill, and at picnics all across America. They are at the ballpark. They are sold from carts on street corners in every city. It’s not hard to find them. We consume hundreds of millions of hot dogs on the Fourth of July alone.

Enjoy National Hot Dog Day to the fullest. Have a couple of hot dogs for lunch or dinner. And, don’t forget to cook a few on a stick at the evening campfire.

What’s in a hot dog? Don’t ask, and we won’t tell. It’s a sausage, and that’s all we will say. Sometimes, it’s better if you don’t know.

Did You Know? Hot dogs outsell hamburgers at ballparks. The companion for  National Hot Dog Day is National Mustard Day

How Many Hot Dogs Do We Eat?

We consume so many hot dogs, in so many venues, that the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council hesitates to forecast consumption. But, it does report that each year we buy over 837 million packages of hot dogs at retail outlets and over 24 million hot dogs at baseball stadiums alone.

We found no statistics about how many chili dogs are consumed annually by Americans. It is a small fraction of the estimated 70 hot dogs each American will eat in a year.

How to Celebrate National Hot Dog Day

Like other food holidays, it’s easy to celebrate National Hot Dog Day.

  • Cut them up and mix them into macaroni and cheese.

National Hamburger Day

Hamburger Day 2024

When is National Hamburger Day? This holiday is always celebrated on May 28

Today is National Hamburger Day, a May 28 holiday. It comes at just the right time, as the outdoor grilling season has arrived. Hamburgers are America’s favorite sandwich. What would a Memorial Day, or Fourth of July picnic be without the very American hamburger? So, it only fitting that we have a special day to celebrate our cherished burgers.

Hamburgers are American in origin. However, there is much controversy as to whether Hamburgers were first created in the 19th or the 20th century. We won’t fret over when they were first created. We’ll just savor the flavor.

Have it your way. The best way to cook a hamburger is grilled on an outdoor grill. You can also cook them indoors on a frying pan. Add your favorite fixings. Cheese is all but a must. Then, there’s lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, onions, bacon, and so much more. And, don’t forget the condiments. Mustard, ketchup, and relish are the favorites.

The World’s Largest Burger: On September 2, 2012, the Black Bear Casino Resort in Carlton, Minnesota cooked the world’s largest hamburger at 2,014 pounds. That’s the equivalent of 8,056 Quarter Pounders!

Hamburgers always seem to taste best with a side order of French fries. See National French Fries Day

Did You Know? May is National Hamburger Month

The World's Largest Burger

According to the Guinness Word Book of Records, the largest Hamburger was made in Pilsting, Germany on July 9, 2017. It weighed 2,566 pounds 9 ounces.

But hold onto your burger buns. A separate claim for burger fame was set in 1982.  It weighed over 3,500 pounds.  What do you do with a hamburger that big!? Well, you break it up and serve it to over 10,000 people.

And, the honor for the largest hamburger you can order from a menu goes to Mallie’s Sports Bar and Grill in Southgate Michigan. Starting with 2,000 pounds of ground beef, it cooked down to a 1,774-pound burger. They put it into a 250-pound bun, and included 300 pounds of onions, pickles, and cheese. Give them a three-day notice and they will cook this big burger for you for only $7,799. (price subject to change.)

About National Fitness Day

When is National Fitness Day? This day is always held on the first Saturday in May

Do you want to live a longer, healthier life? Then, physical fitness should be one of your top priorities. National Fitness Day in the United States is today. It encourages us to get off the couch, turn off the television, and work out. According to the creator, the goal of this day is to “celebrate strength and empowerment through fitness”. Today you are encouraged to “get your sweat on”. Use today, to establish a regular routine of exercise, and to maintain a regular exercise schedule all your life.

So, you think it’s hard to begin a lifetime of regular workouts and physical exercise. You also might feel that it is hard to fit exercise into your already busy schedule. Absolutely no one will disagree with you. Getting started is the hardest part. Start out slow. Getting started can be painful. In the beginning, your body may immediately disagree with your “no pain, no gain” exercise plan. In the early days of your new workout routine, just remind yourself that you are adding many years to your life. Then, in a little while some amazing things happen. The aches and pains subside, eventually going away entirely. All of a sudden, you feel better, much better. You are stronger, you have more energy, your endurance goes up, and you can do physical things you haven’t been able to do in years.

So, on National Fitness Day, we energetically encourage you to begin your new workout and exercise routines…. for life!

How to Participate in National Fitness Day

Here are some ideas on how to participate in National Fitness Day:

  • Ride a bike. How far can you go?
  • If the weather is nice, go out for a walk in the park.
  • If the weather is inclement, dust off the treadmill, and put on some miles.
  • Hit the gym and lift some weights.
  • Go for a swim.
  • Stay off the couch.

Note: There are two “National Fitness” days. There is one in the U.S. in May. The other is in the United Kingdom and is celebrated in September. It is great to have a day in these two countries, to promote physical health and well-being. However, this is an issue for all human beings all over the planet. We might suggest that the creators of these two important holiday events, get together to expand this to an international holiday held annually on a single date. Short of that, we encourage people all over the world to celebrate both of these days by doing things to get healthy and stay healthy.

National Day of Prayer

Day of Prayer

About the National Day of Prayer

When is the National Day of Prayer? This day is always held on the First Thursday in May

In compliance with a law passed in the U.S. Congress in 1988, each year the President of the United States issues a statement proclaiming the first Thursday in May to be a National Day of Prayer. But, the first National Day of Prayer was declared hundreds of years earlier. Religious roots in this country go back to its formation. In 1775, the Continental Congress set aside a time for prayer. In proclaiming this very first  National Day of Prayer, the Founding Fathers asked the colonists to pray for our fledgling country. Many immigrants to America, came here in search of religious freedom. Our God-fearing forefathers felt so strongly about religious liberty, that they wrote the First Amendment to the Constitution, specifically to protect the right to religious freedom.

Each year on the National Day of Prayer, there are over 35,000 prayer gatherings, by churches, temples, and synagogues. Religious leaders across the country participate in some way. A national prayer broadcast can be found on GODTV, Facebook Live, and many other media channels.

Have a Blessed National Day of Prayers. Personally, I pray for your health, safety, and happiness today and every day.

How to Participate in the National Day of Prayer

Here’s some ideas on how to participate in National Day of Prayer:

  • We encourage you to spend a few minutes in prayer and reflection today.
  • Start by giving thanks to your God. All too often we forget to say thanks to God for what he has provided to us. You could start by expressing your thanks to be living in a country that values and protects religious freedom.
  • Think about what is going well in your life, your community, and the world. As you pray, let God know you appreciate all he has provided.
  • Then, consider how things are today. What is not going so well in your life? Do others around you need your prayers? There is always something in the world, that we can pray for… peace, an end to disease.

There never seems to be a shortage of things to pray for.  Spend whatever amount of time you can, whatever amount of time you need. There is no established amount of time to spend in prayer today. Make certain to select a time to pray, when you are not pressured to rush through your prayers.

Today's Quote

“For prayer is nothing else than being on terms of friendship with God.” – – Saint Teresa of Avila

Muslim in Prayer. When is Eid ul-Adha?

History and Origin of National Day of Prayer

The Continental Congress declared the first National Day of Prayer in 1775 when it asked colonists to pray for our new country. In 1952, President Harry S. Truman signed a bill into law proclaiming an annual National Day of Prayer. In 1988, the U.S. Congress passed Public Law 100-307, instructing the president each year to proclaim the first Thursday in May to be a National Day of Prayer

This holiday event is a true “National” day and is the very first one officially proclaimed by government decree. It is not a public holiday.

Brown Bag Day

About National Brown Bag It Day

When is National Brown Bag It Day? This day is always held on May 25

Welcome to National Brown Bag It Day, a May 25 holiday. The brown bag has been around for a long, long time. It seems like just yesterday, everyone was “brown bagging it”, taking their lunch to work or school in a brown paper bag. My how times have changed. Nowadays, very few people brown bag it.

If you extend this line of thought to include in the definition of “brown baggers”, people who carry their lunch in a lunch bucket or a lunch pail back in the day, that would include most people.

Then, somewhere along the way, Brown Bagging your lunch grew out of style. Busy, working moms did not have the time in the morning to pack a good lunch. School lunch programs were initiated or expanded, to the point where almost all kids bought their lunch at school. Then, government programs provided free school lunches for more and more students. Nowadays, bringing your lunch is not considered “cool”.

Today is the perfect day to go “retro” if only for a day, and brown bag your lunch. Nostalgia aside, there are good reasons to brown bag it. First of all, it can save a lot of money, over buying lunch on a daily basis. Second, homemade or foods packed from home always taste better. In addition, Mom or Dad can pack a lunch that is more healthy and nutritious. That’s a lot of good reasons to brown bag it. Now, if we can only get people to look at brown bagging as being the “cool” thing to do.

How to Participate in National Brown Bag It Day

Here’s how to participate in National Brown Bag Day:

  • Go back in time and brown bag it today. Because it is a special holiday, it will be the “cool” thing to do, if only for a day.
  • Moms and dads, pack a special lunch for your kids that will be the envy of classmates.

Did You Know? Back in the day when brown bagging lunch was an everyday occurrence, moms put very brief notes in the lunch bag. The notes said things like: “Happy Birthday” or simply “Have a Nice Day”.

National Babysitters Day

Tea Party on Tea for Two Tuesday

About National Babysitters Day

When is National Babysitters Day? This holiday is observed on the Saturday before Mother's Day

Today is National Babysitters Day. It is a time to give recognition and appreciation to those to whom you entrust your kids. Parents turn to babysitters to go on the occasional date night to dinner and a show when parents need a break, or when they have somewhere to go and can’t take the kids. Ask any parent what is the most important thing in their lives. They will tell you their children. They’d give anything to assure the health and welfare of their kids. So, choosing a reliable babysitter is nothing to be taken lightly. It is as important a decision as it gets.

The need for a sitter can be short notice. A list of potential babysitters should be constructed in advance with care. Babysitters are often grandma and grandpa, a brother or sister. They are usually the first “go-to” sitters. Neighbors and fellow parents are often good choices, too. Teenagers are also common choices. When it comes to selecting teenagers to watch your kids, you should look to find those who have taken childcare classes, and first aid training, including CPR.

Parents are understandably pretty picky when it comes to selecting a babysitter. Safety, security, and reliability are tops on the list when deciding who will watch your precious little ones. But, babysitters are often called upon to do more than just watch the kids. The babysitter’s tasks may also include changing diapers, being a tutor, helping with homework, organizing play time and activities, as well as providing snacks and meals.

Important Tip: Make sure to thoroughly check out any potential babysitter that is not your direct family.

How to Participate in and Celebrate National Babysitters Day

Here are a few ideas on how to participate in and celebrate this holiday:

  • Because babysitters are such important people in your and your children’s lives, take some time today to express your appreciation to those on your list of babysitters.
  • If you are a babysitter, we offer our thanks for being responsible individuals, and for taking great care of the kids you sit for.
  • Think about the key attributes you want in a babysitter.

Buy a Musical Instrument Day

Musical Festival

When is Buy a Musical Instrument Day? This holiday is always celebrated on May 22

Today is Buy a Musical Instrument Day. Everyone was introduced to a musical instrument in grade school. Remember the Recorder? It was the first musical instrument we played and hopefully learned. If we were all thumbs or tone-deaf, the recorder was the only instrument we ever played. However, if we were musically inclined at all, most students advanced to other instruments. Eventually, they joined a school band or orchestra.

Isn’t it obvious how to celebrate Buy a Musical Instrument Day? If you are a musician in need of a new instrument, today could be a very good day indeed! If you have been considering taking up a musical instrument, today can be your starting point. And, the good news is you’re never too old to begin playing a musical instrument. Many senior citizens pick up musical instruments as a hobby. They even form senior bands, often playing in public.
