World Piano Day

World Piano Day

About World Piano Day

When is World Piano Day? This holiday is celebrated on the 88th day of the year.

Today is World Piano Day. We celebrate this amazing musical instrument on the 88th day of the year, as the piano has 88 keys. According to the creator of this holiday, the objective of this musical day is to “provide a platform for piano projects”. Today we celebrate everything about pianos as well as amateur and professional pianists, composers, piano makers and tuners, and most of all the fabulous music emanating from pianos.  You can also use this melodious day to learn more about them. See our “Piano Trivia” below.

The piano is the second most popular musical instrument, behind only the piano. It is used to make sweet music in practically all music genres. Perhaps the most memorable of all is concert music, which withstands the test of time.  The list of famous composers and pianists is too long to list. Maybe someday include you!

The Word’s Largest Piano: According to the Guinness World Book of Records, the largest piano ever built is 8′ 2″ wide by 19′ 10 inches in length and 6′ 3″ in height. Daniel Czapiewski from Poland built it and then played it in a concert on December 30, 2010.

History and Origin of World Piano Day

In 2015, German pianist and composer Nils Frahm created World Piano Day. It is celebrated worldwide due to the global popularity of pianos.

The 88th day of the year was selected to celebrate this holiday as pianos have 88 keys. On Leap Year, this holiday falls on March 28. On all other years, it falls on March 29. Some internet websites incorrectly report it as being celebrated on composer Johann Sebastian Back’s birthday which is March 21.
