When is National Tequila Day? This holiday is always celebrated on July 24
National Tequila Day is today, a July 24 holiday. This drink is strong and potent. You can’t drink too many before you really feel its effects. It is made from the distilled sap of the succulent Blue Agave plant. Importantly, not just any agave plant will do. It must be specifically from the Blue Agave plant. Agave plants can be grown in any hot, arid area. By Mexican law, Tequila can only be made from the Blue Agave plant grown specifically in and around Tequila, Mexico, and a few select areas nearby. To meet the demand for this liquor, over 300 million plants are harvested a year!
The word “Tequila” has its roots in the Arabic word “Thaquila”, which means heavy and strong.
