Did you know? Penguins are found in Antarctica, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Peru, the Falkland Islands, and the Galapagos Islands. Elsewhere, they are only found in zoos.

They are social birds, living in large colonies called “rookeries”.

The birds usually return to the same nesting site, year after year.

The Emperor penguin is the largest and heaviest in the world. They can grow up to 39 inches tall and weigh 99 pounds.

 A 37 million fossil once stood six feet eight inches tall.

Globally, there are an estimated 20 to 31 million penguins. 

The male sometimes deposits a pebble at the feet of a female. If she accepts, then they become a couple.

They can swim up to 22 miles er hour.
