About Carpe Diem Day

When is Carpe Diem Day? This holiday is always observed on February 26

“Seize the day, every day.” That’s the slogan of Carpe Diem Day. It’s straight and to the point. The message is:  Live today like there will be no tomorrow. Don’t take anything for granted. Celebrate this February 26 holiday by enjoying today to the fullest. You can celebrate this day

Carpe Diem comes from the Roman poet Horace. Literally translated, it means “Pluck the day”. Over the years, this saying has morphed into “Seize the day”, making the meaning much clearer. The intention of this expression is indeed quite clear. It means you have today, so make the best of it and enjoy life while you can. You have today, don’t hold back until tomorrow which is not guaranteed to come. While you’re at it, encourage others in your life to make the most of the present.

A little poem for Carpe Diem Day:

Yesterday is history,
tomorrow is a mystery,
and today is a gift…
that’s why they call it the present.

By Bill Keane

How to Celebrate Carpe Diem Day

There are so many ways to celebrate the message of this special day. Whatever way you choose, it should be one that:

  • Lives today to the fullest.
  • Finds you engaged with friends and loved ones, if possible.
  • Causes you to engage in fun and pleasant activities.
  • Experiences new activities and adventures.
  • Honors loved ones who are no longer with you.

Today's Quote

“Seize the moment. Remember all those women on the Titanic who waved off the dessert cart.” – – Erma Bombeck

History and Origin of Carpe Diem Day

This holiday was created in 2020 by the friends and family of Yvette Francino, who lives in Superior, Colorado. Yvette lost a good friend, Craig Dunham, to ALS. Her inspiration came from him. He taught her the importance of living each day fully. Yvette has done much since then to promote the importance of living each day to the fullest. Yvette says the goal of this day is to “serve as a reminder to live fully despite the many challenges that life throws at you.” She also encourages all of us to “not put off to tomorrow doing the things you love – with the people you love – when you can do it today.” Her children stated that this day honors both Yvette Francino and her good friend Craig Dunham.

The date was selected as February 26 is Yvette’s birthday.

A few websites call this a “National” day. This is incorrect, as the creator calls it “Carpe Diem Day ” on her website. We found no presidential proclamation or act of Congress making this a true national day.

When is Greeting Card Reading Day February 21 holiday

About Card Reading Day

When is Card Reading Day? This holiday is always celebrated on February 21

Whoever said, “it is far better to give than to receive?” As for me, I sure enjoy receiving greeting cards and reading them. That’s because you can’t read a card until you receive one. That makes today the perfect day, as it is Card Reading Day, a February 21 holiday. It’s a day to read and send greeting cards. In the cards, we express our emotions and feelings towards someone.

We send greeting cards for many reasons. Those reasons include:

  • To express our love
  • To cheer someone who is ill
  • To celebrate a holiday
  • To celebrate an event like the birth of a child
  • To thank someone
  • And, for countless other reasons

Beyond a doubt, the stationery and Ecard companies love this day. It encourages you to send cards. They like that.

As we did our research, we thought we’d find some history that suggests it is a day for Tarot card readings. It very well could be. But, we found no written evidence to support our theory.

What we can tell you, is that it’s very popular to send and receive cards today. In order to read a card, someone has to send one. So, get the ball rolling and send out some cards today. Chances are good that you will receive a few back in return.

Did You Know? Americans exchange more greeting cards than any other country.

Greeting Card History

Greeting cards originated in Ancient China. At the time, they traded New Year messages. Early Egyptians sent greetings written on papyrus scrolls. Early greeting cards were handmade. Greeting card companies didn’t come on the scene until thousands of years later. People begin celebrating Valentine’s Day in the 1400s and exchanged cards of love. In the 1840 postage stamps were introduced, and the growth of the cards soared. In 1843,  John Callcott Horsley created the first Christmas card.

With the arrival of the Internet, Ecards made sending cards much more easily. But, they largely are read once and not stored.

How to Celebrate Card Reading Day

  • Take a trip down memory lane. Pull out the old greeting cards you saved and read them again.
  • If you don’t save them, that’s okay. Go to the store and browse through the racks of greeting cards. While you’re at it, pick out a few to send to others.
  • Encourage others to participate in this day by sending greeting cards to others. However, if you want them to participate in this day on this day, you must either hand deliver them, or mail them a few days before Card Reading Day.
  • Make up a hand-made greeting card. It makes the card extra special.

Today's Quote

“A bird does not sing because it has an answer. It sings because it has a song.” – – Chinese Proverb

History and Origin of Card Reading Day

Greeting cards have been around for ages. We know all about them. But, we know little about the origin of this day. Our research did not find the creator or the origin of this day. It was not the Ecard companies as they did not exist when this holiday was created. So, a major paper card company likely created this holiday. it was likely the We believe it began in the late 1990s.

About Bubble Gum Day

When is Bubble Gum Day? This holiday is always celebrated on the first Friday in February

Today is Bubble Gum Day. On this day, kids bring 50 cents to school and donate it to a good cause. In exchange, they can chew bubble gum in school today. The school selects in advance, what cause the donations will go to. Ruth Spiro, the creator, wanted to have a day where kids can simply participate in donating, without constantly selling things. She says that since its creation, this day has become a sweet success!

Bubble Gum Day was originally established for schools. But, libraries, clubs, and community groups can and do participate. Even businesses are encouraged to hold a Bubble Gum Day event.

The date of this event was established on the first Friday of February, rather than a set date. This is so it will occur on a school day. Some websites, that have not researched this day, erroneously report it on a fixed date.

Bubble Gum Trivia: Ancient Greeks used the resin from mastic trees as chewing gum. However, bubble gum wasn’t invented until much later.  In 1928, Walter Diemer was the first to perfect the right ingredients needed to make chewing gum that can make big bubbles. After coming up with the fright ingredients, he almost immediately lost the recipe. Then, he spent four months of experimenting to re-create the recipe.  At the time of his invention, Diemer was a young accountant at Fleer Chewing Gum Company.

We hope you have a successful fundraiser on this day.

How to Celebrate Bubble Gum Day

  • Schools select an organization or cause to donate to. School children who bring in 50 cents or more to donate can allowed chew gum in school for the day.
  • We encourage other organizations and groups to do this fundraiser.

Today's Laugher

I found $20 in the parking lot. I asked myself “What would Jesus do?” So, I turned it into wine.

History and Origin of Bubble Gum Day

Ruth Spiro is a writer, a children’s book author, and a bubble gum fan. She created this day in 2006. It quickly grew to become a widespread, annual event. Her objective was to create a day for schools to do a fundraiser, without selling things.

Some sources erroneously report this as a “National” day. This is incorrect, as the creator has never referred to it as a national day. Her website specifically calls it Bubble Gum Day.

About Be Humble Day

When is Be Humble Day? This holiday is always celebrated on February 22

Cut yourself a big slice of humble pie, as today is Be Humble Day, a February 22 holiday. Today is not a day to brag or boast. It’s not a time to talk about your success or accomplishments. It is absolutely taboo to be a braggart today. Rather, act modestly in everything you do and say.

This holiday can and should be a humbling experience. That’s exactly the intent of today. Humbleness is a good thing, a virtue. People much prefer a humble person to a braggart.  Practice humbleness today, and every day. It will serve you well in life.

Important Exception: While you can’t brag about yourself today, it is very appropriate to brag about your kids today, or any day.

How to Celebrate Be Humble Day

  • Humble yourself in front of others today. There’s nothing wrong with displaying humbleness every day.
  • Have a piece of pie, any pie will do as they are all humble.

About National Battery Day

When is National Battery Day? This holiday is always celebrated on February 18

People get a charge out of National Battery Day. We are absolutely energized by the many uses and applications of batteries. This February 18 holiday is an opportunity to celebrate a vital and useful invention. We use batteries everywhere, from our cell phones and electronic games to flashlights, smoke alarms, and countless remote-control devices. Batteries are everywhere. And, they come in all sorts of shapes, sizes, and power capacities, to fit a wide array of needs.

Just imagine where the world would be without batteries. We’d still be using a hand crank to start our automobiles. We’d have to cart around long extension cords to bring a boombox to the beach. More and more electric cars are hitting the roads every year. And, they use big batteries.

The downside to all of the batteries we use, is we are sending billions of them to the waste stream. They are harmful to the environment. We suggest you participate in this day by making an effort to convert to rechargeable batteries.

Yesiree, batteries are electrifying!

Today is a good time to appreciate the real power of batteries in our everyday lives.

Did You Know? The energy needed to create a fully charged battery is 50 times greater than the actual power output capability of the battery.

How to Celebrate National Battery Day

  • Check your battery supply and make sure you are well stocked. There is a lot of winter left and you may need them for your flashlight or other devices.
  • Check the battery strength in all of your devices. Replace them, if needed.
  • Help to keep dead batteries out of the waste stream. Find out where to drop them in your area for recycling.
  • Invest in rechargeable batteries. They are much easier on the environment.
