About National Drink Wine Day

When is National Drink Wine Day? This holiday is always celebrated on February 18

Now here’s a day we all can enjoy, assuming you are 21 or older, of course. Today is National Drink Wine Day, a February 18 holiday. Go down to the wine cellar, or the nearest liquor store, and select a very fine wine. Or, go rent a limo and go on a winery tour.

We all know that apples were the first fruit, in the garden of Eden. Grapes were most likely there, too. It was probably soon after, that wine was discovered.  This author envisions an early Cave Man, finding some grapes that he had stored in his cave. His kids had accidentally stomped on them sometime before while playing in the cave. Food was scarce back then. Our Cave Man drank the juice lying in a puddle on the shelf, and the rest is history!

Did You  Know? Wine bottles have been discovered dating back to 325 A.D.

Pour a glass of wine and let’s toast to National Drink Wine Day!

Important: Please drink responsibly. And, if you do drink, don’t drive.

  • Moderate wine consumption is considered one glass per day for women, and two glasses per day for men.
  • Grapes have less acidity when grown in hot climates.
  • Turn down your thermostat! 55°F is the recommended storage temperature for all wines.
  • Grape skins give the wine its color.
  • Champagne can be made from red or white grapes.
  • Drinking dry wine with dessert makes the wine tasteless sweet.
  • A magnum of wine contains 1.5 liters.
  • Ice wine is made from grapes that have been left to freeze on the vine.
  • Vermouth is a wine.  Many people incorrectly consider it a distilled spirit.

History and Origin of National Drink Wine Day

We found little historical information on the origin of this day. Its creator is anonymous. It is very likely that a few ladies were relaxing and enjoying some fine wine one evening and conceived this holiday. Perhaps he had a little too much and forgot to document it the next day. We are so thankful that they did.

There is no evidence to suggest that this is truly a “National” day, which requires an act of congress. We found no congressional records or presidential proclamation about this special day.
