Yield: about 5 dozen cookies

Date Nut Pinwheels Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups pitted dates, cut into small pieces
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup nuts, chopped (Grandma used walnuts)
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 2 cups brown sugar (firmly packed)
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 12 teaspoon baking soda

How to Make Date Nut Pinwheels Directions

  1. First, in a saucepan, combine dates, sugar, and water. Bring to a boil.

  2. Then, lower the heat and cook the mixture for 10 minutes, until thick.

  3. Remove from heat.

  4. Stir in the nuts and set aside to cool. Then, refrigerate until ready to use.

  5. In a bowl, cream shortening until soft.

  6. Gradually, mix in brown sugar, creaming until light and fluffy.

  7. Add eggs, mixing well.

  8. Sift together flour, salt, and baking soda.

  9. Add dry ingredients to the shortening mixture in two parts. Mix well each time.

  10. Roll the dough into a ball and refrigerate for several hours.

  11. When the dough is very firm, divide it into two.

  12. Roll each dough into a rectangle shape, 1/8 inch thick.

  13. Spread the date nut mixture on top of the dough.

  14. Roll up by the long side, like a jelly roll.

  15. Wrap each roll in aluminum foil and refrigerate overnight.

  16. Preheat the oven to 375° F.

  17. Cut the dough into 1/4″ slices (pinwheels), and place cookies on an ungreased cookie sheet.

  18. Bake 10 – 12 minutes.

Kitchen Cleaning Tip

Are your baking sheets looking a bit grungy?  You can restore them with baking soda and hydrogen peroxide.

Sprinkle the sheet with baking soda. Then, lightly spray it with hydrogen peroxide. Next, sprinkle a little more baking soda on top. 

Let it sit for an hour or two. Finally, wash the sheet off and see the difference!

About This Crazy Cake Recipe

This crazy cake recipe is simply delicious. The way you prepare it will sound a little crazy. But after it is baked, take just one bite and you’ll be crazy for more.

Crazy Cake Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cups vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup cocoa
  • 2 cups water

Directions How to Make Crazy Cake Recipe

  1. First, preheat the oven to 350 °F.

  2. Sift together dry ingredients.

  3. Pour ingredients into a greased cake pan.

  4. Now here’s the crazy part… Make three holes in the ingredients.

  5. Add vinegar to one hole, oil to the second hole, and vanilla to the third hole.

  6. Pour water over all.

  7. Mix everything with a fork, making sure to get the sides and corners.

  8. Bake in the oven for 35 minutes, until done.

  9. Test with a toothpick for doneness.

  10. Remove from oven and allow to cool on a wire rack.

  11. After the cake is cool, frost it with the frosting recipe below.

Frosting for Cake:

  1. Ingredients: 6 Tablespoons butter or margarine, 6 Tablespoons milk, 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar.
  2.  Boil together ingredients, stirring constantly, for 1 1/2 minutes.
  3. Add 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips.
  4. Remove from heat and beat until it thickens.
  5. Pour and spread frosting over the cake.

Kitchen Cleaning Tip

Are your baking sheets looking a bit grungy?  You can restore them with baking soda and hydrogen peroxide.

Sprinkle the sheet with baking soda. Then, lightly spray it with hydrogen peroxide. Next, sprinkle a little more baking soda on top. 

Let it sit for an hour or two. Finally, wash the sheet off and see the difference!

Cranberry, orange, and oatmeal is a terrific blend of flavors. Sure, it may be more fitting as a holiday cookie. But, it will taste good any time of year. There may be a lot of ingredients, but it comes together quickly in just a few steps. So, make this Cranberry Orange Oatmeal Cookies recipe for the holidays or as an Autumn treat.

Cranberry Orange Oatmeal Cookies Recipe Ingredients

1 1/2 cups flour

1/2 cup whole wheat flour

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground ginger

1/8 teaspoon ground cloves

2 teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

3/4 cup unsalted butter or margarine

1 cup dark brown sugar

2 eggs

1/2 cup maple syrup (yes, you can substitute with pancake syrup)

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

zest of one orange

2 1/2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats

1 1/2 cups cranberries, coarsely chopped

1 1/2 cups pecans, coarsely chopped (Skip for people with nut allergies)

How to Make Cranberry Orange Oatmeal Cookies Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350° F.

  2. Spray cookie sheets with non-stick cooking oil spray.

  3. In a large bowl, cream the butter, dark brown sugar, and eggs together until light and fluffy.

  4. Add in maple syrup, vanilla, and orange zest.

  5. In a second bowl, mix together dry ingredients and all spices,  except oats, cranberries, and pecans. Mix well.

  6. Mix dry ingredients into the butter mixture.

  7. Stir in oats, chopped cranberries, and pecans.

  8. Drop tablespoon-sized balls of dough onto a cookie sheet.

  9. Bake for 12-15 minutes.

  10. Remove from oven and place the cookies on a wire rack to completely cool.

When cleaning stone surfaces like granite kitchen countertops, avoid using vinegar or other acidic cleaning solutions. It can etch the stone. Instead, dilute one part dish soap in ten parts water. Use this solution on bathroom granite countertops, too.

Cranberry Sauce Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 12 ounces cranberries, fresh or frozen
  • 1/4 teaspoon, ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon orange peel
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions How to Make Home-Style Cranberry Sauce

  1. Combine sugar and water in a saucepan.

  2. Bring to a boil on medium-high heat.

  3. Add cranberries, cinnamon, and orange peel. Return to a boil.

  4. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 10 more minutes, stirring occasionally until cranberries burst and sauce thickens.

  5. Remove from heat.

  6. Stir in vanilla extract.

  7. Refrigerate.

  8. Serve cold.

  • 1 stick cinnamon

  • 8 whole cloves

  • 1 Tablespoon allspice

For adult parties: After you have made the punch and it has cooled down, add 8 ounces of one of these – hard cider, Triple Sec, or Peach Schnapps.

  • 1 1/4 cups cranberries
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 2/3 cups pumpkin puree, cooked

  1. First, preheat the oven to 350° F.

  2. Next, halve the cranberries and set them aside.

  3. Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and spices.

  4. Then, in a separate bowl, mix together the butter, eggs, and pumpkin.

  5. Mix in dry ingredients until just combined. (A few lumps in muffin batter is fine)

  6. Fold cranberry halves into the batter

  7. Put muffin cups into muffin pans.

  8. Fill the muffin cups with batter until almost full.

  10. Use a toothpick to test for doneness.

1 cup yellow cornmeal

1 cup flour

1/3 cup sugar

4 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup milk, whole or 2%

1 egg, beaten

1/4 cup vegetable oil

 

Directions How to Make Homemade Cornbread

  1. First, preheat the oven to 400° F.

  2. Mix dry ingredients in a bowl and set aside.

  3. In a second bowl, combine milk, egg, and vegetable oil. Stir together.

  4. Add the liquid mix to the dry ingredients. Stir together just enough to mix.

  5. Pour batter into a greased 8″ X 8″ baking pan.

  6. Bake for approximately 25 minutes, or until the top is slightly browned.

  7. Serve warm or cool.    


Household Cleaning Tip

There’s a quick and easy way to clean up your kitty litter box. Line the litter box with a plastic garbage bag. Then, fill it with kitty litter. When it is time to change it, simply lift up the bag, tie it off, and dispose of the litter in the trash.

Coffee Ring Recipe Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup warm, not hot water(110-115 degrees)
  • 1 package active dry yeast
  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tablespoon sugar
  • 2 1/2 cups Bisquick
  • 2 tablespoons soft butter or margarine
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar1/3 cup chopped candied fruits
  • 1/4 cup coarsely chopped walnuts
  • Confectioner’s sugar
  • milk

Directions How to Make Coffee Ring Recipe

  1. In a bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water.

  2. Add egg, sugar, and Bisquick.

  3. Beat vigorously. Turn onto a cutting board dusted with Bisquick.

  4. Knead until smooth.

  5. Roll dough into a 16×9 inch rectangle.

  6. Spread butter or margarine on top. Sprinkle on brown sugar, candied fruit, and chopped walnuts.

  7. Roll up, beginning at the wide side. Pinch dough together to seal.

  8. Place the sealed side down on a greased baking sheet. Pinch ends together to form a ring.

  9. With bakery scissors, cut 2/3 through at 1-inch intervals. Turn each section outward on its side.

  10. Cover and let rise to about double in size.

  11. Heat oven to 375 degrees.

  12. Bake for 15 – 20 minutes.

  13. Test with a toothpick for doneness.

  14. Make an icing with confectioner’s sugar and a little milk.

Don’t feel like eating grocery store ice cream? That’s okay. Don’t feel like driving to an ice cream shop? That’s okay, too. Further, if you don’t have an ice cream maker, it’s no problem. If you have a 1 pound. and a 3-pound coffee can, then you do have an ice cream maker. You can make homemade ice cream in a coffee can. This coffee can ice cream recipe is a lot of fun to make. It’s popular with scouts and other youth groups. Your kids will love to make it, too!

Coffee Can Ice Cream Ingredients

One-pound and three-pound metal or plastic coffee cans, washed and dried

Lots of ice cubes

Rock Salt

1 pint Half & Half

1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/3 cup sugar

Your favorite flavorings, fruit, nuts, M&Ms, Oreo cookies, etc.

Your favorite toppings- whipped cream, sprinkles, cherry, etc.

Directions How to Make Coffee Can Ice Cream

Here’s how to make homemade ice cream in a coffee can:

  1. First, place the Half & Half, vanilla extract, sugar, and flavorings into the one-pound coffee can.
  2. Now, put the lid on the can. Then, seal the lid with duct tape.
  3. Next, place the filled coffee can inside a three-pound coffee can.
  4. Fill the empty space by layering ice cubes and rock salt.
  5. Close and seal the lid with duct tape.
  6. Roll it across the floor for about 15 minutes.
  7. Open both lids and check to see if it is frozen.
  8. If it is not frozen, reseal the inner lid, add more ice and rock salt, and reseal the outer lid.
  9. Roll across the floor for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until frozen.
  10. Remove frozen ice cream from the inner coffee can and place it into a bowl(s).
  11. Lastly, add your favorite toppings, and enjoy!
