People have been consuming the ever-popular grilled cheese sandwiches for seemingly ever. Its roots go back to ancient Roman times when bread was topped with cheese and melted. Shortly after that, today’s grilled cheese sandwich began to be enjoyed by tens, if not hundreds of millions of people young and not so young.

What do you need to celebrate Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day? The ingredients are cheese, sliced bread, a little butter, and your appetite. Any cheese will do. If you are looking to be a little daring, add ham, a couple of slices of tomato or tuna fish to it, then grill it in a frying pan.

How to Celebrate Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day

Here are a few ideas on how to celebrate this holiday:

  • Make a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch or dinner.
  • If you’re too busy to cook today, go to a restaurant or your local diner to enjoy this cheesy sandwich.

History and Origin of Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day

Our research did not find the creator or the origin of this day. Like many other food holidays, one could ask “why”. But, the way we see it, the more special days, the merrier. Life is too short. So, let’s always have a reason to celebrate.

In our first study, this holiday was called Grilled Cheese Day. In our second study, some internet websites were calling it National Grilled Cheese Day. We find this odd, as it apparently did not come from the unknown creator of the holiday. Also, we did not find any congressional records or presidential proclamations for this day.

That may be related to the Go for Broke Day.” Thanks., Alan J. Rod, Instructor, USAF Public Affairs Center of Excellence.

About Girl Scout Leader Day

When is Girl Scout Leader Day? This holiday is always celebrated on April 22

Girl Scout Leader Day recognizes and honors the many adult volunteers to the girl scouting program. The Girl Scouts of the United States began on March 12, 1915, when Juliette “Daisy” Gordon Low organized the first girl troop and held the first meeting. Girl Scout Leader Day began on April 22, 1982, when a flag honoring Girl Scout leaders was flown over the Capitol building in Washington, D.C. This day honors the thousands of volunteers who help to make the Girl Scout program a success.

Being a leader of our nation’s youth is both a challenging and rewarding task. Leaders play an important role in education and teaching. They are shaping and molding young ladies to be successful citizens and leaders in today’s modern world. As leaders, they are also role models for the girls to look up to.

Celebrate today, by thanking the girl scout leaders in your troop and area. Send a note, or card of thanks. Girl Scout groups can hold parties or have a cake at meetings. Gifts are not a requirement or an expectation. One of the ways girl scouts can thank their leaders is to do their best in everything they do. Your leaders get their reward by seeing you grow into outstanding citizens and human beings!

How to Celebrate Girl Scout Leader Day

Here are a few ideas on how to celebrate this holiday:

  • Express your appreciation to the dedicated, volunteer girl scout leaders.
  • Send a thank you card to the leaders that do a great job working with your girls.
  • Consider volunteering your time and effort to this outstanding organization.

Find a Rainbow Day

Double Rainbow. April This Day in History. April Holidays

About Find a Rainbow Day

When is Find a Rainbow Day? This holiday is always observed on April 3

The month of April brings spring showers. After those showers, the sun comes out and a rainbow often appears. This makes today, the perfect time to celebrate Find a Rainbow Day. We don’t always hope for rain in an already rainy month. But, to truly enjoy this day, you need rain to see a rainbow. And, if you are really lucky, you may see an uncommon double one. Make sure you have your camera ready, so you can capture the moment.

Alright, let’s all dial back to our high school science class days for a moment, to remember exactly how a rainbow is formed. A rainbow is a meteorological phenomenon. A rainbow is bent, refracted white light, forming all the colors of the light spectrum. In high school, your science teacher used a prism, to demonstrate this dispersion of light into its primary colors. When you see a rainbow, it’s the same principle as the prism. Water particles in the air act as a prism to bend light, forming a rainbow.

Do You Remember?  If you know Roy G. Biv, advance to the head of the class! Roy G. Biv was the name science teachers used, to help us to memorize the major colors of the white light spectrum, in the order in which they appear in a rainbow. They are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet.

Here’s another fact you may not know: A rainbow is actually a circle. But, rainbows are low in the sky, with the bottom half lost in the earth.

In Search of a Pot of Gold – Me lads and me laddies, according to Irish tradition, there is an elusive pot of gold awaiting you. It was put there by elves.

Song of the Day: Somewhere Over the Rainbow, sung by Judy Garland

Multiple Rainbows

As you know, rainbows occur after rain. Look for them as the sun comes out in the disappearing clouds opposite the sun. Single rainbows are by far the most common. Double rainbows are uncommon but certainly not rare. If you see a double one, make sure to get a picture of it and you will have double the luck all day long.

Triple and quadruple rainbows can occur.  However, they are very rare.  The trick is to look toward the sun, not away from it.

How to Celebrate Find a Rainbow Day

  • If it rains today, look for a rainbow.
  • Pull out and look at old pictures of rainbows. Are any of them doubles!?
  • Share the pictures on social media.

About Ex-Spouse Day

When is Ex-Spouse Day? This holiday is always observed on April 14

Ex-Spouse Day is in recognition of your Ex. Someone must have been kidding when they created this day, right? Could anyone actually want to recognize their Ex? Most of us want to forget them. Hard as it may be to believe, Ex-Spouse Day, an April 14 holiday, has indeed arrived. How are you going to celebrate this day? Once again, we will remind you that we do not create the days, we merely report them. So, please don’t shoot the messenger.

All too often, relationships don’t work out. About 50% of marriages in the U.S. end in divorce. Life provides us with many ex-girlfriends and ex-boyfriends. There are many ex-wives and ex-husbands. Some relationships end amicably, while others are painful and nasty endings. Most likely, we would prefer to forget them.

With a little stretch of the imagination and an open eye, you may find a few “Exes” out there who actually have good traits. After all, there was a time when you did love and care for them. There are even examples where some people get along better with their Ex after the relationship is over. Did you have children together? Then, it is important to get along for their sake.

If you value your Ex in any way, give him or her whatever appreciation and recognition you feel is appropriate today. If you can not find any redeeming trait, no one will fault you for skipping today’s celebrations altogether.

How to Participate in Ex-Spouse Day

  • For many of us, this is simply a way to forget past relationships.
  • Find ways to get along with your Ex, regardless of how the relationship ended.

About National English Muffin Day

When is National English Muffin Day? This holiday is always observed on April 23

Today is National English Muffin Day. an April 23 holiday. English muffins are believed to have been created in the 10th or 11th century in Wales, England. They were first called a “Toaster Crumpet”. Samuel Bath Thomas, a British immigrant to the United States, is credited with introducing the English muffin to the United Sates in 1894. Always toasted, English muffins were originally served in the finest restaurants and hotels. It didn’t take long for this tasty treat to make its way to the average American breakfast table. The versatile English muffin was first served as part of the breakfast meal, or as a quick morning bite to eat, before heading out for a busy day.

Its versatility became quickly apparent, and nowadays is consumed for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. For breakfast, toasted English muffins are slathered with butter, which soaks into all of the nooks and crannies. Then if you’re British, you likely put orange marmalade on it. We all have our own homemade version of the Egg McMuffin. Ours is called the “Egg McDaddy”. For lunch, you can load it up with your favorite meats, cheese and condiment. Kids love peanut butter and jelly on English muffins. For dinner time, it acts as the side bread, or you can pile almost anything on top of it. Try heaping some Mac and Cheese on an English muffin… yum! English muffins make great snacks, too. Use them as a base for mini pizzas.

This is such an enjoyable and tasty holiday. It’s easy to participate, too. Just pop an English Muffin in the toaster or toaster oven. Then, top it off with whatever your prefer!

We hope you thoroughly enjoy National Toaster Crumpet Day, errr National English Muffin Day !!

How to Celebrate National English Muffin Day

  • Celebrate today by eating English muffins, lots of them.
  • Try a different topping for your muffin.
  • Use them to make a breakfast sandwich.
  • Make a lunch sandwich useig them.

Record Store Day

About Record Store Day

When is Record Store Day? This holiday is celebrated the third Saturday in April

Record Store Day is today. It celebrates the iconic record stores that peaked in the 1960s and 1970s but still exist today.  Their decline is due to evolving technology. Yet, they continue to exist in competition with easily downloaded music from the internet and other audio mediums. Like other brick-and-mortar stores, they have survived in part by adding online Estores.

Music defines the culture of each generation. Like any technology, the record industry has seen a huge evolution and succession of record formats over the past 60 years. In today’s high-tech world, digital downloading of music has all but replaced physical records in any format. As downloading of music has grown in use, record stores have declined in numbers. Major chain music stores have disappeared, along with many independent stores. It is only fitting, that today we celebrate the hundreds of independently owned record stores that remain and the culture they represent, even as they dwindle in number.

45 Vinyl Records

The Ever Changing Audio Format

Record formats have changed with the times and technology. First came 78 rpm records, composed of shellac and other materials. They were replaced by 33 rpm and 45 rpm vinyl records. The record industry reached its peak in the 1960s and 1970s. These records were bought by the millions for every hit song or album.

Like every product, it slowly became obsolete, as new recording formats with better sound quality and more record storage capabilities came on the market. First, there was beta and audio cassettes. The pace of the decline of vinyl records seriously increased with the arrival of audio CDs. Then, Ipods hit the market by storm, as digital downloading of music arrived on the scene. Digital downloads of songs onto a wide variety of devices has all but eliminated the existence of any physical records.

What audio medium is next? well, we will just have to wait and hear.

How to Celebrate in Record Store Day

Here are a few ideas on how to celebrate this holiday:

  • To celebrate Record Store Day, step back in time and visit your local record store before they all disappear. The few that survive will evolve their product line to fit a digital world.
  • Support them, by purchasing a record or two.
  • Record stores recognize and celebrate this day with special events and store specials on sale.

National Vinyl Record Day

When is Global Beatles Day? Beatles Revolver Record Album, June 25 holidays

About National Vinyl Record Day

When is National Vinyl Record Day? This holiday is always observed on August 12

Today is National Vinyl Record Day, an August 12 holiday. Today we celebrate this classic music format and remember the terrific music and times of yesterday. Dust off your old vinyl 33 1/3  and 45 RPM records. Pull your phonograph, HiFi, stereo, or turntable out of the attic or garage. Grab a beer or a glass of wine and savor the music and memories from your youth with a few friends. The nostalgic trip down Memory Lane is certain to make you feel great. Caution: It will also make you wonder “where did all the years go!?”

Records on a round disc have been around since Emile Berliner invented them in the 1800s. Around 1960, the vinyl record was first produced. Known as the Golden Age of vinyl records, the 1960s and 1970s saw a tremendous cultural revolution occurring at the same time. Rock and Roll music exploded onto the scene, recorded on vinyl records.

Like any other technology, newer and better-quality formats came along to replace it. Cassette tapes, and for a short while Eight Track tapes, provided competition for vinyl records in the 1970s and 1980s. Compact Disc (CD) records hit the music world in 1982, with much improved sound quality. Like cassette tapes, it’s smaller, more compact size and durability allowed them to easily fit into automobile music systems and carried around with music players and boom boxes. In the late1990s, music downloads from the internet were put into I-pods and cell phones. Early in the 21st century, vinyl records and phonographs saw a surprisingly popular revival. Never destined to replace the newer and better music technology, the vinyl revival record offered a pleasant nostalgic trip down memory lane.

Vinyl Records Are a Literal Treasure

Are your vinyl records worth money? Don’t toss those old vinyl records, that have been gathering dust in your basement or attic. And, don’t put them in a garage sale until you’ve checked their value. It could be worth less than $5.00, or it could be worth much, much more. The most expensive vinyl record ever sold was not Ringo Starr’s personal copy of the Beatle’s White Album (Serial #0000001) which sold for $790,000. The highest price ever paid for a vinyl record was Wu-Tang Clan’s Once Upon a Time in Shaolin. Only one copy was ever made, and it sold for $2 million!!

Did You Know? While black vinyl records were the dominant color, over the decades vinyl records were made of many colors. The black color proved to provide superior quality.

Vinyl Record Trivia

Amaze your family and friends with your knowledge of long-playing vinyl records.

  • Once almost discontinues, vinyl records made a comeback and are still sold. 41.7 million vinyl records were sold in 2021.
  • They came in 33 and 45 (Rotations Per Minute).
  • Music is on both sides of the record.
  • Earlier versions consisted of shellac and were 78 RPM.
  • In 1931, the first 12-inch vinyl record was Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 played by the Philadelphia Orchestra.
  • Record speed in 1925 was 78 RPM.
  • In 1948, Columbia Records introduced the 12-inch 33 1/3 RMP record format.
  • The term “record speed” refers to a scratched record. When the record player’s needle is caught in a scratch and a segment of the song plays over and over again.
  • Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” album is the all-time biggest seller. It sold 32 million copies in the first year, and over 70 million to date.

How to Celebrate National Vinyl Record Day

  • Get out your parents’ or grandparents’ old records and record player and listen to songs of their generation.
  • Go retro and get a record player along with some vinyl records.

Today's Chuckle

History and Origin of National Vinyl Record Day

This special holiday was created by Gary Freiberg of Los Osos, CA. Freiberg is a music enthusiast and founder of a non-profit group dedicated to preserving the cultural influence of vinyl records on society.

August 12 was selected to celebrate this holiday, as Thomas Edison invented the phonograph on August 12, 1877.

We did not find any documentation confirming either of these days to be a true “National” day. We found no congressional records or presidential proclamation. However, we believe this holiday is a good candidate to become an official national day, as the record format carried the music of more than a generation of people.

About Eight Track Tape Day

When is Eight Track Tape Day? This holiday is always celebrated on April 11

Eight Track Tape Day, an April 11 holiday, brings back fond memories of the sixties and seventies. During this era, eight-track tapes ruled the music world. America’s love of the automobile was a driving force in creating the demand for musical cassette formats. For those who grew up in this era, an eight-track tape player in your home and your car was an essential. It was eventually replaced by cassettes and other formats for storing music.

Eight Track Tape Day is a day to bring back fond memories of the sixties and seventies. If you still have tapes and a player, by all means, enjoy the day listening to some great music. If not, just spend a few minutes looking back in time to when you loved your eight-track tapes!

Those of us under 50 or 60 years old, this holiday likely means little to nothing to you. We suspect this holiday may eventually fade away as time passes.

How to Celebrate in Eight Track Tape Day

Here are a few ideas on how to celebrate this holiday:

  • Ask your grandparents about eight-track tapes.
  • Learn more about them online.
  • See if you can find a few of these tapes and a player. Then, play the songs.

About National Eggs Benedict Day

When is National Eggs Benedict Day? This holiday is always observed on April 16

What do you usually have for breakfast? When asked this question, scrambled or over-light eggs often come to mind. So does cereal, pancakes, and French toast. But, we venture to guess that Eggs Benedict is not among the list of common breakfast foods that you eat. It’s not that people don’t like them. Rather, it’s just that we never seem to think about them. Well, National Eggs Benedict Day is going to change your way of thinking. Today is a day to savor and enjoy. This April 16 holiday is celebrated with a mouthwatering combination of eggs with hollandaise sauce, and Canadian bacon on an English muffin.

A lot of people have never had this delicious breakfast item. If you’re upper crust, you most likely have enjoyed Eggs Benedict several times, and perhaps, regularly. However, many people (regular folk) have never tried Eggs Benedict. Go ahead and do a survey. See how many of your friends can even tell you how it’s made, or what’s in it. Or, ask them what hollandaise sauce is.

How to Celebrate National Eggs Benedict Day

  • Celebrate today by eating Eggs Benedict.
  • If it’s your first time eating this breakfast treat, we suggest you go to a restaurant where they know from experience how to properly make it.
  • Make Eggs Benedict yourself at home.

History and Origin of National Eggs Benedict Day

Our research did not find the creator or the origin of this day. We do know that Eggs Benedict was created in New York City over 100 years ago. There are historical claims that one of two individuals are credited with its creation: Mrs. LeGrand Benedict in 1893, and Mr. Lemuel Benedict in 1894.

Without any information from the creator of this day, we may never know if this is a true national holiday. We found no documentation in congressional records to confirm that this is truly a national day. Nor, did we find a presidential proclamation.
