When is Chocolate Milkshake Day? September 12 holidays

About National Chocolate Milkshake Day

Date When Celebrated: National Chocolate Milkshake Day is always observed on September 12

National Chocolate Milkshake Day is an opportunity for chocoholics to savor and enjoy a thick and frothy shake. In mid-September, the weather may have cooled off. But, our appetite for chocolate, specifically chocolate shakes, hasn’t cooled off one iota. Chocolate is the most popular milkshake flavor. For those of you who prefer other flavors, only a chocolate milkshake will do today. So, on this September 12 holiday, enjoy a chocolate milkshake…or two.

Did You Know?  On August 1, 2000, Ira Freehof, made the Guinness World Book of Records by making the world’s largest milkshake. This milkshake was 6,000 gallons, the equivalent of 50,000 regular-sized shakes.

To participate in this day is easy. You already know what to do. Make this day even more fun, by making the milkshake yourself.

Origin of Milkshakes

The first milkshake was made in 1885. They were originally sold in bars and saloons. The original milkshake was made of whiskey, eggs, and cream. Then in the early 1900s, chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry syrup replaced the whiskey. In 1922, a Walgreen employee added malted milk powder to the recipe. That same year, Steven Poplawski invented the electric blender. This made milkshakes more smooth and frothy. By the 1930s, malt ships popped up around the country, selling malted milkshakes and other ice creams.

How to Celebrate National Chocolate Milkshake Day

Here are some ways you can celebrate and enjoy National Chocolate Milkshake Day:

  • First, start your day with a chocolate shake for breakfast. For breakfast, you ask Sure, why not!?
  • Take the family out to your favorite ice cream shop and order them for the whole family.

  • Then as you enjoy chocolate shakes all day long, post pictures of your fun day on social media.

When is Checkers Day and Dogs in Politics Day? This holiday is always celebrated on September 23

Get out the Checkerboard. Today is Checkers Day. So, do you want the red checkers? Or, the black ones? It may surprise you to know that it is also Dogs in Politics Day. These two days are one and the same. Read on, and we will explain the connection.

This day is all about a beloved dog named Checkers who stole the political spotlight for a short period of time. Most U.S. presidents had dogs while they served in office. However, only Andrew Johnson, James K. Polk, and Donald Trump did not have a presidential dog.

How to Celebrate Checkers Day and Dogs in Politics Day

Here are just a few ways you and your dog can celebrate Checkers Day:

  • Get a scarf or shirt for your dog that has a political statement or affiliation on it. Then, grab a leash and walk your dog around the neighborhood.
  • Adopt a dog.
  • Here’s the best suggestion of all… Simply enjoy the day with your dog and don’t make any mention of politics. Now, isn’t that novel!?
  • Research the internet to find out what other presidents had dog as pets while in office.

About Checkers Day and Dogs in Politics Day

In 1952, Richard M. Nixon was a candidate for Vice-President of the United States, running with Dwight D. Eisenhower.  Media speculation centered around an $18,000 campaign contribution, and speculation that Nixon may have used some for his personal use. In a brilliant political maneuver, Nixon took his case to the American people.

So, on September 23, 1952, Richard Nixon gave a speech that directly addressed and explained the issue. During the speech, he assured the public that he did not use any of the funds for personal use. Towards the end of the speech, he stated that his daughters had received a dog, which they named “Checkers”, as a gift. He said they would keep the dog.

This speech quickly became known as the “Checkers” speech, and went on to be one of the better speeches in American political history.

With “Checkers” the dog included in the speech, this day was sometimes referred to as Dogs in Politics Day.

How to Celebrate Checkers Day

Here are some non-political ways to participate and in and enjoy this canine holiday:

  • First, spend some quality time with your own dog.
  • If you don’t have a dog, then adopt one from an animal shelter and name it “Checkers”.
  • Contribute to an animal rescue organization in memory of President Nixon’s dog.
  • Lastly, take pictures of our dog and share them on social media.

History and Origin of Checkers Day

The origin of Dogs in Politics Day is clear. It evolved from Richard Nixon’s “Checkers” speech in 1952. Yet, the origin of this holiday and who originally created it is unknown. We suspect that this holiday evolved almost immediately after the speech. Perhaps it came from a media journalist.

Our research clearly found that this holiday did not have the word “National” in the title. However, in the past several years, some internet websites added the word “National” to the title.

We did not find any documentation confirming this to be a “National” day. We found no congressional records or presidential proclamation.

Definition of “National” Days – and why it is so important to distinguish and identify true national days.

In addition to Checkers Day, here are some things that happened on this day:

  • The planet Neptune is first discovered by German astronomer Johann Gottfried Galle. (1846)
  • “The Jetsons” premieres on television. (1962)
  • Jason Alexander, actor played George on “Seinfeld” was born on this day in 1959.

About Business Women Day

When is Business Women Day Celebrated? This holiday is always observed on September 22

C’mon ladies, let’s break the glass ceiling. American Business Women’s Day recognizes the value and contributions of women in the business world. The roots of this September 22 holiday go back to the late 1940s. While men were off fighting World War II, women filled the void in the workforce. Overall, they performed well in a previously man’s workforce. The returning soldiers found the women eager to have their men return. But, many working women were not anxious to return to traditional roles in the home. Since this time, women’s roles and contributions in the workforce have grown and evolved.

Currently, women are found in virtually all career fields, from top corporate officers to the Vice President of the United States. However, compensation and promotion still lag behind men in many areas. So, let’s put an end to this discrepancy.

Ladies have a Happy Business Women’s Day!

How to Celebrate American Business Women Day

There are many ways to participate and enjoy this holiday. Here are some of them.

  • Obviously, this day focuses upon recognition and acceptance of women in all jobs and career fields.

Date When Celebrated: Bring Manners to Work Day is observed on the first Friday in September

Did you notice that people seem to be overly engrossed with their cell phones and their busy lives nowadays? We seem to have forgotten our manners. Good social behaviors, politeness, and respect are lacking everywhere you look. Nowadays, many people skip the simple things like saying please and thank you. Having good manners and being polite, have taken a back seat at work, at home,e and on the Internet. Yes sir, Bring Your Manners to Work Day is today and has come along at just the right time. All industries and professions celebrate this holiday. It definitely applies to you and everyone in the workplace without exception.

Bring Your Manners to Work Day exists to remind us of how important good manners are at work. This applies to both employees and the “boss”. Here are a couple of examples: You want a day off and you say to your supervisor “I want to take Tuesday off.” You’ll get a much better reception if you say “May I please take Tuesday off?”  How many times have you heard your boss say something like “Get me last week’s sales report.” You’ll likely do it quicker, and your moral will be better if the boss says “Would you please get me last week’s sales report?” Saying please and thank you is a basic example of good manners and should be used everywhere. Using good manners at work reaps significant results. It helps to build good working relationships, improves morale, lowers employee turnover, and increases productivity.

How to Participate in Bring Manners to Work Day

When we think of good manners, were talking about practicing proper social behaviors. It includes being friendly, using proper etiquette, treating people with respect, being courteous, and treating people with dignity. Certainly, good manners are a building block to good relations. Just think about it, more people will like you and they will think better of you, too!

Let’s use today to start improving manners at work. As you practice good manners, do so with a smile. An honest smile is disarming and expresses genuine sincerity. We can move on to improving manners at home, school, and then the internet from there. And, we all know how badly we need good manners on social media platforms.
