National Cheeseball Day

Cheeseball Day

When is National Cheeseball Day? This holiday is always celebrated on April 17

National Cheeseball Day is today, an April 17 holiday. But wait!!! What kind of cheeseball are we talking about? There’s the light and airy, irresistible puffy corn cheese ball that you munch on for a snack by the dozens. There is also the party cheeseball, often decorated with nuts, that sits on a party tray until spread on a cracker. Why do we celebrate these two snacks? Simply because the author of this holiday is unknown and failed to leave documentation describing the reason for this day. either way, this is a day to stuff yourself with cheeseballs.  In celebration of this special holiday event, let’s celebrate and enjoy both kinds of cheeseballs.

When it comes to the cheeseball snack, we are certain that you can’t eat just one. Not even a handful. Corn cheese balls are addicting. Place a bowl of cheeseballs on the counter and watch them disappear right before your eyes. Toddlers and young kids are Cheeseball hounds. So are teenagers and adults. In other words, everyone lives cheeseballs.

The cheeseballs we savor on holiday trays are equally loved. Strangely, it is wildly popular around the holidays and hard to find other times of the year.

Celebrate this cheesy day with cheeseballs (both kinds). Serve them after dinner during your favorite television show, or whenever it’s convenient.

How to Celebrate in National Cheeseball Day

Here are a few ideas on how to celebrate this holiday:

  • Munch on puffy corn cheese balls all day long.  It’s a great snack.
  • Put them on the counter and see how fast they disappear.
  • Make your own party cheeseball. They are quick and easy to make. And there are plenty of easy recipes online.
  • Buy one at the store and enjoy it with your favorite crackers while watching evening television.
  • Bring crackers and a cheeseball to work to share with coworkers.

History and Origin of National Cheeseball Day

Is this a celebration derived from the snack industry, or the dairy industry? We suspect so. However, our research did not find the creator or the origin of this day. We continue to search for him or her. Until we find them, it remains a mystery which cheeseball this day is celebrating.

We found no documentation in congressional records to confirm that this is truly a national day. Nor did we find a presidential proclamation.

About California Poppy Day

When is California Poppy Day? This holiday is always celebrated on April 6

Today is California Poppy Day, an April 6 holiday. Fields of California poppies are known in California and elsewhere as “fields of gold. Today is a day set aside to honor these beautiful flowers and wildflowers.

Cheerful and bright orange poppies are native to the western coast of North America, from southern Canada, and southward into Mexico. They grow wild, sometimes covering huge fields in a sea of gold, when in bloom. Gardeners love to grow them in their flower gardens, in flowerpots on their patio or deck, as well as using them as ground cover.

In the late 1800s, Californians were working toward making the California Poppy their state flower. It did not happen until March 2, 1903. And, it wasn’t until more than a century later, that California Poppy Day was created.

Celebrate California Poppy Day by planting some of these poppies in your flower garden, enjoying pictures and information about them, or holding teaching sessions and talks to children or groups.

History and Origin of California Poppy Day

In 1996, California Governor Pete Wilson declared May 13-18 to be California Poppy Week. This is the typical time that poppies bloom in the state. In 2010, the State of California passed Senate Bill 944 (37222.12), designating every April 6th as California Poppy Day.

Earth Animation. How to Create Holidays

When is Blah Blah Blah Day? This holiday is always celebrated on April 17

Blah Blah Blah Day is today. This April 17 holiday just might be the blah-est day of the year. Every day of the year, your spouse or your boss at work is nagging you to get certain things done. But, all you hear is “wah, wah, wah” or something like that. It’s hard to imagine why they are nagging you. Afterall, they’ve only been asking you to do a particular task for five or six months.  The intent of this day is to do all of the projects and things that people have been nagging you to do. This may include quitting a habit, losing weight, or working on home projects. The “Honey Do” list or job jar is a top target for today.

With all of the projects done, no one will nag you for the rest of the day. Of course, once those tasks are done, some new ones will certainly crop up. So, most likely tomorrow you will hear them say “blah, blah, blah ” all over again.

Big Wind Day

About Big Wind Day

When is Big Wind Day? This holiday is always celebrated on April 12

Today is Big Wind Day, an April 12 holiday. It’s the kind of day that can blow you away. We all get those occasional windy days when you need to put rocks in your pockets before going outside, so you don’t blow away. Even without a hurricane or a tornado, it can get pretty windy anywhere on the planet. Windstorms display the awesome power of nature. They can be deadly, dangerous, and damaging. It can leave you without power.

On the other side of the coin, the wind can be our friend. It helps to cool us on a hot day. Sailors have used its power for thousands of years. Christopher Columbus would never have landed in America, without wind in his sails. Windmills increasingly dot the landscape all over the world. Electric turbines on them provide increasing amounts of clean electricity, to an energy-hungry world.

For all the good and the bad that wind does for and to us, it’s only fitting, that we show our respect for it, by giving the wind its own, very special day.

Big Wind Day commemorates the highest wind speed ever recorded on the planet. Can you guess where?  No, it wasn’t in the middle of a hurricane or a tornado.

On April 12, 1934, the staff of the Mount Washington Observatory in New Hampshire, recorded the highest surface wind ever measured, anywhere on earth. This big blow was officially recorded at 231 miles per hour. Imagine the difficulties of even making a recording under those conditions back then!

Will this record ever be broken? Perhaps, but until then, enjoy Big Wind Day

Not the “Big Wind” you expected– – When talking to the family about documenting Big Wind Day, family members teased “quick everyone, get out of the room!”

How to Celebrate Big Wind Day

Here are a few ideas on how to celebrate this holiday:

  • Go fly a kite.
  • Go sailing.
  • Go hang-gliding.
  • Support wind-powered electricity.

This seems strange, as it did not come from the unknown creator of the holiday. Also, we did not find any congressional records or presidential proclamations for this day.

International Be Kind to Lawyers Day

Be Kind to Your Lawyer Day

About International Be Kind to Lawyers Day

When is International Be Kind to Lawyers Day? This holiday is celebrated on the second Tuesday in April

Today is International Be Kind to Lawyers Day. Your lawyer works hard to protect you. He or she is an honest and noble advocate for you. Unfortunately, nowadays the practice of law is not seen by many as a highly respected profession. There are not many careers that rank lower. As a matter of fact, the profession is one of the least respected professions. It seems odd, as it is a very high-paying, white-collar job. Unfortunately, as in any profession, there are always a few, who spoil the reputation of the vast majority of lawyers.

Despite the sometimes low perception, the law profession remains a noble one. That’s where the majority of people who practice law fit in. These are the honorable men and women who are there when you need them. They are the ones who help you to buy and sell homes, prepare your will, protect your interests, defend you in court as needed against lawsuits, go the extra mile to fight for your rights, and provide legal advice on an endless list of topics.

Attorneys were not always the object of negative jokes. In the 1700s, Benjamin Franklin once said “God works wonders now and then; Behold a lawyer, an honest man.”. Abraham Lincoln was a lawyer before becoming President. In his day, it was considered a “noble profession”.

How to Celebrate in International Be Kind to Lawyers Day

Lawyers are very well compensated for their work. It’s the little things you do to celebrate this day, that is important.

  • If you talk to your attorney today, say thanks for the work they do for you.
  • Send your lawyer a nice card or an email.
  • Buy your attorney a cup of coffee this morning, or a drink tonight at the bar.
  • Take him or her to lunch.
  • Whatever you do, keep it simple.
  • Most importantly today, there is to be no bad lawyer jokes, period.

Today's Quote

“Being a lawyer is not merely a vocation. It is a public trust, and each of us has an obligation to give back to our communities.” – – Janet Reno

History and Origin of International Be Kind to Lawyers Day

This holiday event was started in 2019 by non-lawyer Steve Hughes of St. Louis, MO. This holiday got its beginnings simply because Hughes got tired of hearing negative jokes and derogatory comments about lawyers. So, at least for one day, bad lawyer jokes are taboo.

Bat Appreciation Day

About Bat Appreciation Day

When is Bat Appreciation Day? This holiday is always celebrated on April 17

Let’s celebrate bats today!! No, we are not going batty. We just think that bats deserve a little respect. There are many varieties of bats, some as small as your thumb. Counter to what horror movies lead us to believe, these night flyers won’t bother you, if you don’t bother them. However, if you’ve got bats in your belfry, that’s a different matter altogether. So, head on outdoors after dark on this April 17 holiday, and enjoy Bat Appreciation Day.

Bats can be your friend. Bats are nocturnal flyers, emerging after dark, from caves, steeples, and the attics of old buildings. These flying mammals are attracted to areas where there are plenty of nighttime insects, along with a good source of water. They use a form of radar to seek their favorite food source of mosquitos and other insects. A single bat can consume up to 1,000 mosquitoes a day (or night). Gardeners certainly appreciate bats. Bat guano is among the best manures you can use, in your home garden.

When we think about bats, we often think of them as scary Halloween Bats, a symbol of the Halloween holiday. But these nocturnal mammals aren’t really scary to most people once they get used to them flying around at night in search of an insect meal.

So, let’s use today to better understand, and appreciate our fine feathered friend, the Bat.

How to Celebrate in Bat Appreciation Day

Here are a few ideas on how to celebrate this holiday:

  • Go outdoors at dusk and look for them. They are harder to spot after dark. Later at night, you might find them around outdoor hanging lights.
  • Learn more about them.
  • Gardeners, pick up a bag or two of guano to feed your flowers and vegetables. It’s a great fertilizer.
  • Count how many times you spot them.
  • Watch any one of the Batman series movies.

Thought for Today

“Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it’s time to pause and reflect.” – – Mark Twain

History and Origin of Bat Appreciation Day

Our research did not find the creator or the origin of this day.

We are surprised that Bat Appreciation Day is not in October, near Halloween. Perhaps celebrating this day in April, for the Halloween season, allows us to truly appreciate the good qualities of bats.

Atheist Day

Buddha. When is Play God Day. January 9 holiday.

About Atheist Day

When is Atheist Day? This holiday is always celebrated on April 1

Every religion around the world, from the smallest to the largest, has its share of special or holy days. Well, what about Atheists? Is there a holy day for them to celebrate….no religion? Why, that is today, Atheist Day! The date for this April 1 holiday was dictated by a court in Florida. Read on…..

Some people are religious. Other people are spiritual, but not religious. This doesn’t make them an atheist. By definition, an atheist is a person who does not believe in a supreme being. They deny the existence of God, any God.

Did You know? There are almost 8 billion people on the planet. There are about 142 million Atheists. It is estimated that 4% of the U.S. population is atheist.

The origin of Atheist Day did not arise in a normal way, with interested individuals or groups. Rather, it evolved from an internet hoax. This one was a lulu that took on a life of its own. It is the premier example of fake news.

In 2003, an internet post was made, stating that a Florida man sought the help of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) in an effort to get the courts to make a non-religion holiday for atheists. The judge ruled that April 1st (April Fool’s Day) is to be their unholy holiday. And, Voila, Atheist Day was born.

While this may have begun as a spoof, it seems only right that atheists have their own day. After all, doesn’t “Freedom of Religion” also mean “Freedom from Religion”?

How to Participate in Atheist Day

Here are a few ideas how to celebrate this holiday:

  • If you are an atheist, this is your special day to do as you see fit.
  • Their spiritual message is that there is no god. Atheists can celebrate this belief today.
  • While Atheism may appear to be controversial, it wouldn’t hurt to spend a little time understanding Atheism. We are not suggesting, you become an Atheist. That’s entirely your decision. However, it won’t hurt to learn about it.
  • If you meet an atheist, give them respect today and every day.

History and Origin of Atheist Day

It’s amazing how a holiday or special day can emerge for almost any reason. We know this special day originated from an internet hoax.

Note: We discovered some references to this day or atheist-related days on other dates. An occasional reference suggested National Atheist Day was on March 23rd and began in 2019. There was also an occasional reference to “Ask an Atheist Day, with little content or description.

Did You Know? Atheism is a non-prophet organization.

This Day in History

Here are a couple of things that happened on Atheist Day:

  • Dexter Mason Ferry and partners found Gardener, Ferry & Church Seed Company, now called Ferry-Morse, the oldest seed company in America. (1856)
  • Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak found Apple computer from the garage of Job’s parents’ home in Cupertino, CA. (1976)

All is Ours Day

Double Rainbow. April This Day in History

About All is Ours Day

When is All is Ours Day? This holiday is always celebrated on April 8

All is Ours Day is bound to be a spectacular day for…… us. It is a mood-setting day. Think of the concept for this April 8 holiday. It encourages us to reach for things and goals that we desire. Imagine the possibilities. They are limitless. This day tells us we can do anything with the help of others. The creator of this day was absolutely brilliant. What a great day this will be.

Let’s dissect the meaning and intent of this great day. We will do so by examining the title of this day, word for word. It begins with the word “all”. For such a little word, it’s all-inclusive. From a possessive standpoint, therefore, we are talking about anything and everything we want. The verb “is” is sort, sweet and definite. It leaves no room for doubt or question.

Finally, the creator chose the word “ours” rather than the word “mine” This is a vital decision allowing us to completely enjoy today with others, as a group or team. The greatest events, and the best things in life, are those that are shared. The only thing the creator left out is the definition of who “Ours” represents. That is left up to you, or better still, up to “us”.

This day is not about being greedy and overly possessive. Rather, it is a challenging and uplifting effort to obtain a goal or make an accomplishment. And, it encourages us to not go it alone.

How to Celebrate All is Ours Day

Here are a few ideas how to celebrate this holiday:

  • Ask someone to help you to reach a goal or objective.
  • Reach for something. But, don’t do it alone.
  • Allow someone to help you to attain one of your goals.
  • Help someone else to attain their goals and objectives.

Today's Quote

“According to a recent survey, men say the first thing they notice about women is their eyes. And women say the first thing they notice about men is they are liars.” – – Jay Leno

History and Origin of All is Ours Day

Our research did not find the creator or the origin of this day. We researched this day twice, once in the early 2000s, and again in the early 2020s. Neither study found much factual information on this holiday.

In our first study, this holiday was called All is Ours Day. In our second study, some internet websites were calling it National All is Ours Day. This seems strange, as it apparently did not come from the unknown creator of the holiday. Also, we did not find any congressional records or presidential proclamations for this day.
