About the Christmas Beer Keg Tree

Who needs a pine, spruce, or fir Christmas tree!? As they say “Beauty is in the eyes of the “beer holder”. Making a Christmas beer keg tree begins with empty beer kegs. They easily stack into a tree shape. Then, you decorate it in a variety of ways. Many of them are decorated with strings of Christmas lights. Finally, some venues play holiday music in sync with the lights.

These trees are a tradition at breweries and many restaurants. To those who enjoy the sudsy ale, a Christmas Beer Keg tree is truly something to behold. While you may wet your whistle, this holiday tree never needs watering.

The Genesee Brewing Company in Rochester, NY boasts a lighted, color-changing Beer Keg Christmas tree. The lights are synchronized to a variety of Christmas songs. An annual lighting ceremony attracts thousands of people, regardless of the weather, which is almost guaranteed to be cold and snowy. It stands outside the Genesee Brew House.

The Beer Keg Christmas tree is 27 feet high, has 12 layers, and is made of 520 empty half kegs.

Even in the daylight (see picture above), the Genesee Brewing Company beer keg tree stands tall and impressive.

Their sister brewery, Pyramid Brewery in Seattle, Washington has also started the tradition. Their lighted  tree stands 20 feet tall.
