Date When Celebrated: This holiday is always observed on October 30
Mischief Night is today, errrr tonight! This October 30 holiday falls on the night before Halloween. This night is a warm-up to Halloween night. It is an evening when people traditionally participate in harmless (please) mischief. We stress harmless or innocent mischief. Other forms of mischief can lead to big trouble. Even seemingly harmless mischief can be the source of problems.
This night is discouraged by law enforcement organizations. The mischief is sometimes less than funny and can even lead to vandalism or destruction.
Important: We neither encourage nor endorse participation in this day. Why risk getting in trouble??
Have a happy, safe, and harmless Mischief Night.
Historically, Common Forms of Mischief Tonight Include:
Soaping windows
Egging houses and cars
Tossing a few rotten tomatoes
Toilet papering house trees, etc.
Knocking on doors, then running away
How to Celebrate Mischief Night
We hesitate to offer ideas on how to celebrate mischief night. As a participant, only cause a little mischief. It is important to stress that it must be harmless. DO NOT hurt anyone or damage property.
Here are a couple of ideas:
Have a Mischief party. Invite friends and have some fun.
Homeowners beware. First, as a deterrent leave all of your lights on, both front and back yard. Second, be on the lookout. Watch what’s going on from your windows.
