When is Sandwich Day? This holiday is always observed on November 3
We invite you to bite into your favorite sandwich, for today is Sandwich Day. Unsurprisingly, this November 3 holiday is held on the birthday of the Earl of Sandwich. This is a day you can sink your teeth into. The sandwich is truly a great creation. They are a daily luncheon staple for millions of Americans. As a matter of fact, they are so popular, that there are endless varieties for you to make. There is a huge choice of bread and condiments. Then, the things you can put in between the bread offers countless variety.
Creation of the Sandwich
The annals of English history report that John Montague was the 4th Earl of Sandwich. He was born on this day in 1718. Among other things, he was a heavy gambler. Montague often spent many long hours in London’s gambling parlors. In 1762, he created the sandwich, by putting meat between two pieces of bread. This allowed him to remain at the gambling table for long periods of time. Obviously, the sandwich was named after him.

We call them a sandwich, a sub, a hoagie (hoagy), or even a hero. As you make them, you have a lot of decisions to make. There are countless different kinds of sandwiches. We put them together with countless different ingredients. It’s all a matter of personal taste. How do you like yours!?

First, we begin with virtually any kind of bread or roll. Do you want yours toasted or not?
Next, we select the meat or fish we prefer. How about a meatball sub!?
We can have cheese or no cheese. While provolone, American, and Mozzarella are the most popular, why not try something different!? Asiago anyone!?
Now, on to even more difficult decisions. What extras do you want on it? Tomato, lettuce, and onions are the most popular choices. But, let’s not stop here. You can select hot or sweet peppers, pickles, of all kinds, and many more items.
Finally, we select a condiment. Mayonnaise, different kinds of mustard, and oil and vinegar are the most popular choices.
Now that you’ve prepared your favorite sandwich, grab a glass of milk, a handful of potato chips and enjoy!
