When is National Quilting Day? This holiday is celebrated on the third Saturday in March
National Quilting Day celebrates fabulous quilts and those who make them. Historically a lady’s hobby, quilting is a skill that produces warm and beautiful results. Today is a day to recognize and appreciate the quiltmakers, the skill, and the warm results. If you are a quiltmaker, spend a minute to recognize and appreciate that you have truly been blessed with a special skill. If you are not a quilt maker, wrap yourself into a quilt and enjoy the warmth.
There are an estimated 7 to 10 million quilters. While most are women according to a joint study by Quilting in America and Quilts, Inc., about 1% are men.

History and Origin of National Quilting Day
The National Quilting Association started National Quilting Day in 1991. Their members passed a resolution at the 22nd Annual Show in Lincoln, Nebraska, on June 1991.
This is described as a “National” holiday. However, we found no documentation in congressional records to confirm that this is truly a national day. Nor, did we find a presidential proclamation.
