Walking the Dog Day
About Walking the Dog Day
When is Walking the Dog Day? This holiday is always celebrated on February 22
Walking the Dog Day is today, a February 22 holiday. It is a special day that your dog looks forward to all year long. But, wait a minute! Don’t you already walk your dog just about every day, and maybe 3 to 4 times a day? Sure you do! And, weather permitting, it’s enjoyable for you and your dog. They love it almost as much as a car ride.
Man’s Best Friend sleeps on your couch all day as he anxiously awaits your return so he can cake you for a stroll, and maybe case a few squirrels. On this day walking with your dog is a must. If you don’t have a dog, perhaps you can join a friend while he or she walks their dog.
The fundamental question is who walks who? Owners of large dogs know the answer. Even a somewhat small dog will drag you down the sidewalk at a high rate of speed.
Did you Know? “Walking the Dog” is a yo-yo trick. So, if you have a Yo-Yo, you can celebrate the day by “walking the dog” with your yo-yo. Also see, Yo-Yo Day.

- Or, have him take you for a walk.
- Make the walks a little longer if the weather is nice.
- Take an extra walk with your dog, weather permitting.

- Let your dog linger a little longer sniffing the fire hydrant.
“I always tried to turn every disaster into an opportunity.” – – John D. Rockefeller
Note: Rockefeller’s quote is very much like “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.”
History and Origin of Walking the Dog Day
Our research in the early 2000s and again hin the early 2020s did not find the creator or the origin of this day. Obviously, it’s a dog owner who try as he might, doesn’t get to walk his dog as often as he’d like.
