Tell a Fairy Tale Day

Fairy Tale Day

About Tell a Fairy Tale Day

When is Tell a Fairy Tale Day? This holiday is always celebrated on February 26

This is a day that Fairy Tales are made of (and for). It’s Tell a Fairy Tale Day. On this February 26 holiday take time out to read a story to your kids or grandkids. If the kids aren’t around, it’s certainly okay to read them alone. Everybody loves a good fairy tale.

To qualify as a fairy tale, a story does not have to begin with “Once upon a time”. But, they usually do. However, it is a requirement that the story has a happy ending. There’s nothing better than a good story ending with “and they all lived happily ever after”.

On Fairy Tale Day, cozy up under a blanket with the kids and read “the good book”, a fairy tale storybook. Libraries and schools will often mark this day with special fairy tale readings and story hours.

How to Celebrate Tell a Fairy Tale Day

  • Read a fairy tale to a young child. May we suggest Cinderella!?
  • Read one just to yourself. Go ahead and admit it. You enjoyed the story which brought back fond childhood memories.
  • Buy a fairy tale book for your child.
  • Donate a book so a less fortunate child can hear one of these wonderful stories.

History and Origin of Tell a Fairy Tale Day

We researched this holiday twice. Once in the early 2000s, and again in the early 2020s. Our research did not find the creator or the origin of this day. Even though we can not trace the origins of this day, this special holiday is not a fable.

This is not a true “National” day.  There is no evidence to suggest that this is truly a “National” day, which requires an act of congress. We found no congressional records or presidential proclamation about this special day.
