No Politics Day
About No Politics Day
When is No Politics Day? This holiday is always celebrated on February 1
Isn’t it about time somebody said …. “Give it a rest!!” After all the angst, bitterness, and negativity of recent elections, and the protests over the installation of newly elected officials at just about all levels, normal Americans have had it with both politicians, and the political rancor. Isn’t it time to take a break from politics? I think one thing we all can agree upon, is that a break from politics would be refreshing, if only for a day. So, therefore, No Politics Day, a February 1 holiday, is just what the politicians called for.
No Politics Day means no political activities and no political statements of any kind whatsoever…. no Facebook or Twitter posts, no discussions or debates, and no sharing or spreading political articles, comics, or other materials. And, certainly, no fake news today. The news media should also participate in this special day. We have little faith that the media will comply, as all the negativity sells TV, radio, and print ads.
It was quickly decided not to make this a national day, as that would require an act of congress or a presidential proclamation. There is no way politicians would do this, without a whole lot of political lobbying. And, could you imagine any politician voting for no politics, even if only for a day?
So, let’s all celebrate this refreshing and relaxing day. There will be plenty of time for politics tomorrow.
Deep Thought for Today: It is rather ironic to realize that a successful No Politics Day would be a political victory!
How to Celebrate No Politics Day
- We politely request that all politicians take the day off.
- If anyone begins to talk politics to you today, let them know that it is No Politics Day.
- Do not read or listen to any news that is politically oriented.
- Spread the work. Let others know about this day.
The political environment has become so toxic, we offer three very appropriate non-political quotes:
- “A healthy democracy requires a decent society; it requires that we are honorable, generous, tolerant, and respectable.” – – Charles Pickering
- “If we don’t believe in freedom of expression for people we despise, we don’t believe in freedom at all.” – – Noam Chomsky
- “If voting changed anything, they’d make it illegal.” – – Emma Goldman
History and Origin of No Politics Day
Many Americans from both sides of the aisle, are disgusted and fed up with the ugliness of politics as of late. We want a break from all the arguing, bickering, nastiness, and negativity. We need a break from it. It is for this reason, that No Politics Day was conceived.
This special day was established in 2017 by Bob Matthews, of Rochester, NY.
Matthews recently noted that some websites are incorrectly calling this National No Politics Day. He went on to say that he did not pursue a presidential or congressional proclamation that would make this a true national day. Think about it for a moment…. to so do would be a political activity.
