As a matter of fact, no other explanation is required. Perhaps the most fun you’ll have is dreaming up wild crazy, creative, or challenging things to do today. For example, your daring plan to ride a hot air balloon or hang glide is justified by telling yourself and others that it’s “Because I Can”.
The statement by itself says a lot. Using “Because I Can” as your motto is all about attitude. It makes doing almost anything possible. It creates and promotes positive thinking. And, it’s a much more positive statement than “I think I can”. C’mon, whatever it is, you know you can. So, get to it.

When to say “Because I Can”:
- Up to now, you’ve been too shy to ask that cute redhead in your math class out on a date. Isn’t it time you convinced yourself to ask her out because you can?
- It’s hard to take a day off from work. Today you wake up to a beautiful spring day. The golf course is calling. So, you call in a day’s vacation “because you can”.
- Every year local Boy Scout troops in our area rappel down a thirty-story building. They do so for two reasons. First, it is a fundraiser. Second, because they can.
Used as an excuse, it explains a lot…. or does it!?
- According to folklore, young George Washington quickly admitted to his father that he chopped down the family’s cherry tree. But when asked why he chopped it down, is it possible that George said “Because I can!?”
- When a mother asks her young child why she took cookies from the cookie jar without permission, is it okay for the child to say “Because I can!?
- A young, engaged woman is seen with another man. When her beau asks why, is it okay for her to say: “Because I can”?
When not to say or use “Because I Can”:
- When a police detective asks a suspect why he did the bank heist,
“Because I Could” might not be a smart reply. - When your parents catch you coming in after curfew. this is not an excuse to use if you want to avoid getting grounded.
- Also, it’s not the excuse to give your boss when he catches you sneaking out of work early.

Certainly, Because I Can Day is destined to become one of your favorite holidays. Participating in this holiday is simple and easy.
- Do things because you can.
- Don’t do things because you can choose not to.
- Encourage others to adopt this motto.

History and Origin of Because I Can Day
Because I Can Day was created in 2025 by Bob Matthews, owner of HolidayInsights.com. When asked, why he created this holiday, Matthews first said ” Simply, because I can!”. He then went on to say that we all can use a little more fun things in our hectic and stressful lives. And, this holiday is definitely all about having fun. Making ” Because I Can” your motto for today opens up an endless array of amazingly fun and rewarding experiences and opportunities. And, it offers a sound excuse for what you do.
There’s no specific reason for selecting April 24 to celebrate this fun holiday. However, Matthews said there isn’t a lot of other things happening on April 24. And, celebrating this holiday in the spring when we begin to get outdoors, opens up even more opportunities to enjoy the day.
