When is National Carrot Cake Day? February 3 holiday.

About National Carrot Cake Day

When is National Carrot Cake Day? This holiday is always celebrated on February 3

Calling all cake lovers. Today is National Carrot Cake Day.  This February 3 holiday is going to be delicious. Sweet, dense, and moist carrot cake is among the most popular of all cakes. And rumor has it, this is Bugs Bunny’s favorite cake. You may think of this cake for Easter, Thanksgiving, and other holidays. But if you’ve got a sweet tooth, you’ll be pleased to know that it is also popular any day of the year.

Carrot cakes emerged during the Middle Ages. During Medieval times, sugar and sweeteners were scarce. However, carrots which are sweet, were inexpensive and readily available. People began to grind them and put them into cakes and frosting. However, it wasn’t until much later that carrot cake recipes showed up in cookbooks. A carrot cake recipe showed up in an English cookbook in 1764. In 1827, it appeared in a French recipe cookbook. Early colonists brought the recipe to America.

Carrots are healthy for you. So, doesn’t it stand to reason, that when you eat this high carb, high cholesterol, calorie-ladened cake, you are eating healthy!?

In addition to orange carrots, there are purple, black, and, white and yellow cultivars. So, select your favorite color and make this cake today.

Did You Know? We all eat the orange part of the carrot that’s grown underground. Yet, the tops are edible and tasty, too.

About Carrot Cake Recipes

There are dozens, if not hundreds, of carrot cake recipes. The basic recipes include ground carrots, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves, along with other common cake ingredients. Cream cheese frosting is the most common and often includes carrots, too. Nuts are also common in the cake batter, or as a decoration on top of the frosting. Many of the recipes include marzipan carrots spaced on the cake so it is on top of each piece of cake when sliced.

History and Origin of Spice Up Your Life Day

Spice Up Your Life Day was created in 2023 by Bob Matthews from Rochester, NY. Matthews is the owner of HolidayInsights.com.

In February the weather is lousy, and people are stuck indoors. We are often lying on the couch watching television. Matthews created this day to get us off of the couch and do something interesting and perhaps a little wild and crazy. It breaks the monotony of those long winter days and nights. And importantly, it helps to make winter go by just a little faster.

The date for this February 17 holiday occurs during an otherwise dull and boring time of the year. With spring still weeks away, we need something to spice up our lives. Unquestionably, this holiday comes at the perfect time.

About World Thinking Day

When is World Thinking Day? This holiday is always celebrated on February 22

Today is World Thinking Day, a February 22 holiday. Just think about it! Today is a day to ponder and contemplate. Also called International World Thinking Day, this holiday is celebrated by Girl Scouts, Girl Guides, and other girl groups. The original objective of this day was to set aside a day for girls all over the world to think of each other and to give thanks and appreciation to “sister” Girl Scouts and Girl Guides. Over the years, it has been expanded to include the opportunity for girls (young and less young) to learn about health issues that affect girls and young women.

You don’t have to be a Girl Scout or a Girl Guide to participate in this day. Rather, we encourage all females, young and old, to learn a little more about health issues today. If you are in a position to provide education and training on health issues, do so today. If you cannot conduct it today, then schedule it for some time in the near future.

Just ponder the word “think” for a moment. Thinking is a deep subject. It consumes a lot of brainpower. The word “think” has many meanings, including ponder, cogitate, consider, determine, conceive, and conclude. It also means to imagine, envisage, estimate, surmise, and reckon. Wow, I don’t know about you, but I’m exhausted just thinking about it.

Did You Know? February 22 is the birthday of both Lord Baden-Powell founder of the Boy Scouts, and his wife Lady Olave Baden-Powell. Lady Baden-Powell founded Girl Guides.

As you ponder the true meaning of this thoughtful day, we hope you leave plenty of time to celebrate International World Thinking Day.

How to Celebrate World Thinking Day

Here are some ways to participate in this holiday:

  • Celebrate the Girl Scouts and Girl Guide groups.
  • Think about the girls and the adult leaders participating in these programs.
  • Have a meeting to celebrate this holiday.
  • Have a cake or other treat in celebration.
  • Talk about issues and challenges today’s women and girls face.

World Bartender Day

World Bartender Day. February 24 holidays

When is World Bartender Day? This holiday is always observed on February 24

Cheers to the bartenders of the world today, for it is World Bartender Day, a February 24 holiday. Today is a day to celebrate the bartending craft, and to give recognition and appreciation to the men and women behind the counters at bars, pubs, breweries, and wineries that we frequent.

Tending bar is among the world’s oldest professions and a very important one at that. You trust your local barkeep to fix your drink to your liking, and in a timely manner. In addition to perfectly preparing and serving drinks, a bartender is often a part-time psychologist of sorts. Bartenders are excellent listeners. Many a patron has unloaded their problems or sought advice, while cozied up to the bar with a drink in hand. Patrons have confessed things they wouldn’t tell their spouse, closet friend, doctor, and even perhaps their church priest.

There are all types of bartenders. A bartender can be a professional or non-professional. Tending bar is a skill position. The real professionals attend Bartender’s school for formal education. They know by heart, how to mix hundreds of drinks. You may have been a casual type of bartender without even knowing it. If you’ve ever mixed and served drinks behind a counter at a church or club function, at small parties, or even in your own home, you’ve been a bartender.

Famous Bartenders: Perhaps the most memorable bartenders were Sam (Ted Danson) and the lovable “Coach” (Nicholas Colasanto) on the television sitcom “Cheers”.

Did You Know? According to the U.S. Bureau of Statistics, there are over 745,000 bartenders in the United States.

Ways to Celebrate World Bartender Day

Listed below are some ways to celebrate and enjoy this holiday. Bottoms up!

  • Go out to a bar or club for a drink and chat with the bartender.
  • Tell a bartender your troubles and woes.
  • Tell your bartender what a great job he or she does.
  • When you leave the bar, leave an extra-large tip in appreciation.
  • Give them a gift card.
  • Become a bartender yourself.

“Alcohol may be man’s worst enemy, but the bible says ‘love thy neighbor’.” – – Frank Sinatra

History and Origin of World Bartender Day

Despite our extensive research, we have not yet found the creator of this day. We did find a reference that suggests this holiday began in Australia and New Zealand in 2018. However, the article did not name an individual or group. As one of the world’s oldest professions, bartenders are found all over the world.  So it is not surprising that it began in the Southern Hemisphere.

This Day in History

Besides World Bartender Day, here are some things that happened on this day:

  • William Otis of Philadelphia, PA patents the steam shovel. (1839)
  • Elton John is knighted by Queen Elizabeth II. (1998)

About White T-Shirt Day

When is White T-Shirt Day? This holiday is always celebrated on February 11

White Shirt Day, also called White T-Shirt Day, is a February 11 holiday. This holiday commemorates the men and women who participated in a sit-down strike at General Motors in 1937. These autoworkers helped the United Auto Workers (UAW) union to become the sole bargaining agent for General Motors autoworkers. The strike ended on this day in 1937.

According to the UAW’s website, the traditions of White Shirt Day are simple:

  • Everyone must wear a white shirt or blouse
  • Your white shirt must not get dirtier than your boss’s shirt
  •  Follow all safety and work rules.

Somewhere along the way, this day evolved into White T-Shirt Day. Except for UAW workers and their families, this UAW event was probably lost or forgotten. Those who chanced across a reference to White Shirt Day, most likely created their version of this day, giving birth to the term White T-Shirt Day.

Please wear a white shirt today. And, honor UAW workers, along with their accomplishments.

Important Note: It’s “White T-Shirt Day”, not “Wet T-Shirt Day”. However, if the shirt is white, you can get it wet today. Or, you can enjoy watching someone in a wet T-Shirt.

Did You Know? T-shirts became popular in the 195-s when Marlon Brando and James Dean began wearing them in movies such as A Streetcar Named Desire.

About National Weatherman Day

When is National Weatherman Day? This holiday is always celebrated on February 5

National Weatherman’s Day is today. This February 5 holiday honors weathermen and weatherwomen who work hard to accurately predict the often fickle local and national weather. Despite major technological advances and supercomputers, forecasting the weather can still be a tricky and ever-changing business, especially when it comes to local variations.

We depend on an accurate weather forecast. Knowing the weather is important in so many ways. It affects how we dress, where we go, and even if we go. Space launches are made or delayed depending on the weather. And, knowing the weather can save lives. The most obvious example is knowing when and where a hurricane, tornado, or major blizzard may hit.

According to the Air Force News, Weatherman’s Day “commemorates the birth of John Jeffries, one of America’s first weathermen”. Jeffries was born on Feb 5, 1744. He kept weather records from 1774 to 1816.

If you see a weatherman today, give them your appreciation for a job well done.

About Walking the Dog Day

When is Walking the Dog Day? This holiday is always celebrated on February 22

Walking the Dog Day is today, a February 22 holiday. It is a special day that your dog looks forward to all year long. But, wait a minute! Don’t you already walk your dog just about every day, and maybe 3 to 4 times a day? Sure you do! And, weather permitting, it’s enjoyable for you and your dog. They love it almost as much as a car ride.

Man’s Best Friend sleeps on your couch all day as he anxiously awaits your return so he can cake you for a stroll, and maybe case a few squirrels. On this day walking with your dog is a must. If you don’t have a dog, perhaps you can join a friend while he or she walks their dog.

The fundamental question is who walks who? Owners of large dogs know the answer. Even a somewhat small dog will drag you down the sidewalk at a high rate of speed.

Did you Know? “Walking the Dog” is a yo-yo trick. So, if you have a Yo-Yo, you can celebrate the day by “walking the dog” with your yo-yo. Also see, Yo-Yo Day.

How to Participate in Walking the Dog Day

Here are some suggestions how to spend the day with your “best friend”:

  • Take your dog for a stroll in the park.
  • Or, have him take you for a walk.
  • Make the walks a little longer if the weather is nice.
  • Take an extra walk with your dog, weather permitting.
  • Bring Doggie treats on the walk.
  • Let your dog linger a little longer sniffing the fire hydrant.

About Create a Vacuum Day

When is Create a Vacuum Day? This holiday is always celebrated on February 4

Create a Vacuum Day is today, a February 4 holiday. This day just might leave you in an empty void. Certainly, the unknown author of this important day, left us in a vacuum when he failed to document this holiday. It appears clear from the title, that this day celebrates something devoid of air, like outer space or a vacuum tube. However, let’s stretch it just a little and suggest it may (also) be about the common vacuum cleaner that is used to clean our homes and places of work. That way we can have more fun by celebrating both! We found no factual information or records about the origin of this day. The author left us in a vacuum.

Theories About the Meaning of This Day

Short of knowing the thinking of the unknown author of this day, we present four possible theories:

Theory #1:  A hard-working housewife, frustrated over her vacuuming chores, declared a day to commemorate the chore of vacuuming and to declare a day off from this task. The hole in this theory is that the day would likely be simply called “Vacuum Day” or “No Vacuuming Day”. Why include the word “Create” in the title? This led us to……..

Theory #2: A mad scientist (aren’t they all mad!?) created this day to celebrate the creation of a vacuum during laboratory work. But, isn’t this routine scientific work!? We think so. Therefore, it led us to…………..

Theory#3: A dreamer or a philosopher was gazing out into the emptiness of space on a cloudless, February 4 evening. Then, he or she got the brilliant idea to create this holiday. Yet, who would be crazy enough to go outside on a frigid and usually cloudy February evening. So, this led us to….

Theory #4: Someone desperately in need of a simpler life, conceived this day. They wanted to create a vacuum that would suck all of the daily work, chores, and clutter out of their life. If only for one day, this holiday frees us to enjoy the simple life of leisure. Now, here’s a theory that makes sense for today!

However you choose to commemorate this day, we hope you enjoy this holiday. It is certain to leave you breathless.
