Famous Beheadings

Unfortunately, history is filled with beheadings and decapitations. Sadly, they continue to this day. Beheadings are undeniably a horrible way to perform an execution. Yet, there really isn’t a good way to execute someone, and the outcome is the same. Throughout history, there have been numerous famous beheadings. Here are some of the most famous ones:

  • One of the earliest beheadings occurred in China. In 227 B.C. Huan YI (Fan Wuji), a traitorous Qin general, was beheaded.
  • In 610, Byzantine Emperor Phocas was beheaded after Hercilius defeated him in a civil war.
  • In 1536, Catholic Pope Clement VII denied King Henry VII of England an annulment from his wife. In response, King Henry VIII had his wife Queen Anne Boleyn convicted of bogus charges and then beheaded.
  • In 1793, King Louis XVI and his wife Queen Marie-Antoinette were guillotined during the French Revolution.
  • In 1967, actress Jane Mansfield was almost completely decapitated when the car she was driving hit a truck. Here car went under the higher body of a truck.
