If you have a 1 pound. and a 3-pound coffee can, then you do have an ice cream maker. You can make homemade ice cream in a coffee can. This coffee can ice cream recipe is a lot of fun to make. It’s popular with scouts and other youth groups. Your kids will love to make it, too!

Coffee Can Ice Cream Ingredients
One-pound and three-pound metal or plastic coffee cans, washed and dried
Lots of ice cubes
Rock Salt
1 pint Half & Half
1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/3 cup sugar
Your favorite flavorings, fruit, nuts, M&Ms, Oreo cookies, etc.
Your favorite toppings- whipped cream, sprinkles, cherry, etc.
Directions How to Make Coffee Can Ice Cream
Here’s how to make homemade ice cream in a coffee can:
- First, place the Half & Half, vanilla extract, sugar, and flavorings into the one-pound coffee can.
- Now, put the lid on the can. Then, seal the lid with duct tape.
- Next, place the filled coffee can inside a three-pound coffee can.
- Fill the empty space by layering ice cubes and rock salt.
- Close and seal the lid with duct tape.
- Roll it across the floor for about 15 minutes.
- Open both lids and check to see if it is frozen.
- If it is not frozen, reseal the inner lid, add more ice and rock salt, and reseal the outer lid.
- Roll across the floor for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until frozen.
- Remove frozen ice cream from the inner coffee can and place it into a bowl(s).
- Lastly, add your favorite toppings, and enjoy!
