Chocolate Cinnamon Buns Recipe

Here's a cinnamon bun recipe that will please every grandchild, and other family members as well. When Grandma made something, it always tasted better.

Chocolate Cinnamon Buns Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup warm water (110-115 degrees)

  • 1 package active dry yeast

  • 1/4 cup shortening

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1/4 cups sugar

  • 1 egg

  • 1/3 cup cocoa

  • 2 1/4 cups enriched flour

  • 1 Tablespoon butter or margarine, soft

  • 1 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 3  Tablespoons confectioner's sugar

  • Nuts- almonds or pecans


How to make Chocolate Cinnamon Buns:

  1. In a mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water.

  2. Add shortening, salt, sugar, egg, cocoa, 1 cup flour.

  3. Beat for 2 minutes ad medium speed, while scraping sides of bowl.

  4. Cover with towel, and let rise to double in size, about 1 hour.

  5. Beat down. Turn dough onto a well-floured cheesecloth covered board.

  6. Roll into a 12" X 9" rectangle.

  7. Spread butter on top of dough.

  8. Sprinkle cinnamon on top of dough.

  9. Roll dough and pinch edge.

  10. Cut dough into 12 pieces.

  11. Place pieces of dough onto a greased 9" baking dish.

  12. Let rise until doubled.

  13. Bake for 25 minutes at 375 degrees.

  14. Use toothpick to test for doneness.

  15. Remove pan from oven.

  16. Make frosting with confectioner's sugar and just enough milk to make it smooth and pasty.

  17. Immediately spread frosting on bun, while buns are still hot.

  18. Sprinkle nuts on top.

  19. Serve warm.
