Frankenstein Friday

About Frankenstein Friday

Date When Celebrated: This holiday is observed on the last Friday in October

TGIF, Thank God It’s Friday. Frankenstein Friday is a day to celebrate. It celebrates the birth of Frankenstein and Victor Frankenstein, the monster’s creator. Frankenstein is one of the best-known horror characters, dating back to the 1800s. We can’t imagine the Halloween season without the presence of Frankenstein, lurking somewhere in the darkness.

To clear up a little confusion….. The scientist that created the monster was Victor Frankenstein. The monster he brought to life was “Frankenstein’s Monster”. However, many people refer to the monster as “Frankenstein”.

Frankenstein was born in 1818 when Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, at the age of 21, wrote the story “Frankenstein”.

Frankenstein’s Mother: Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley

Father of Frankenstein: Boris Karloff

To celebrate this day, we suggest you read the novel or see a Frankenstein movie.

Ron MacCloskey, the creator of this special day, by awarding “The Franky” to someone who has made a significant contribution to the promotion of Frankenstein. Maybe next year, you will receive the coveted “Franky” award.

“Beware; for I am fearless, and therefore powerful.” – – Frankenstein

“The problem isn’t that obesity runs in your family. It’s that no one runs in your family.” – Unknown Doctor to his patient

History and Origin of Frankenstein Friday

Jack O'Lantern

This special day was created by Ron MacCloskey from Westfield, New Jersey in 1997.

Note: Ron’s hometown of Westfield, NJ. is also the hometown of Charles Addams, the New York Times magazine cartoonist who created The Addams Family. So, Ron’s interest in Frankenstein comes as no surprise.

Ron picked Friday to celebrate this day for the “FR” connection, and because more people can party on Friday than on other nights of the week.
