About Camera Day

When is Camera Day? This holiday is always observed on June 29

Today is Camera Day. This June 29 holiday is a memorable day best captured and retained in pictures. Then, we further celebrate this day as we share pictures of our lives from images stored in our cell phone cameras to social media. Pictures are invaluable memories of our lives and the world. They tell stories. Our memories and stories are captured by a camera. With digital technology, using a camera has never been easier. Cameras are now built into cell phones, so you always have a camera with you, ready to record the moments of your life.

To many people, a camera is a vital tool to record important events in the family and the world.  It captures the moment…..forever. It creates the memories that we share and look back upon. From the birth of a baby, to high school graduations, people take pictures at a fast click. Year after year, cameras record family vacations, holidays, and Christmas. The camera takes pictures of good times, and occasionally bad times.

George Eastman is the “Father of Photography”. He didn’t invent photography. He made many photographic inventions and created the mass production that brought cameras into everyday use by millions if not billions of people. At one point Kodak had so much of the camera and film market, that the company had a monopoly on the market. George Eastman’s most famous slogan is “You take the picture, we do the rest.”

Celebrate Camera Day today in a memorable way. Use your digital camera or cell phone camera and click the day away. Make certain to take plenty of selfies.

Capturing the Moment - A Kodak Memory

One cannot talk about cameras and imagery without talking about Eastman Kodak Company. For most of the 1900s, Kodak was a monopoly in film and cameras. Virtually everyone had a camera or two. Even kids had a camera, often a small 110 camera given to them in a Christmas stocking. Film was the medium for capturing our lives and preserving our memories. At its pinnacle years, Kodak was a top Fortune 500 company. Kodak failed to evolve in the revolutionary move into digital cameras.

The digital world and cell phones combined to totally transform the picture-taking industry. Now as an integrated feature on our cell phones, we capture and share the big and little things and events in our lives. Now, without giving it a thought we take more pictures than George Eastman could ever have imagined.

How to Celebrate Camera Day

  • Celebrate this day to the fullest degree. Treat yourself to whatever you want and to excess.
  • Have that extra scoop of ice cream.
  • Eat as much candy as you want. Add some extra hot fudge, too.
  • Forget about your budget for just one day. For, this is indeed a day to splurge. Do so without worry or concern…until tomorrow.
  • Take the day off of work and binge-watch your favorite television program.

To keep in the spirit of the day, you may not want to balance your checkbook or step on a scale until tomorrow.

Whatever you do, it is not a day to be a miser.
