If you have a 1 pound. and a 3 pound  coffee can, then you do have an ice cream maker. Coffee can ice cream is a lot of fun to make. It's popular with scouts and other youth groups. Coffee Can Ice Cream Ingredients:

  • One pound and three pound metal or plastic coffee can, washed and dried
  • Lots of ice cubes
  • Rock Salt
  • 1 pint Half & Half
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • Your favorite flavorings, fruit, nuts, M&Ms, Oreo cookies, etc.
  • Your favorite toppings- whipped cream, sprinkles, cherry, etc.

How to make Coffee Can Ice Cream:

  1. Place Half & Half, vanilla extract, sugar and flavorings into the one pound coffee can.

  2. Put the lid on. Seal lid with duct tape.

  3. Place filled coffee can inside a three pound coffee can.

  4. Fill the empty space by layering ice cubes and rock salt.

  5. Close and seal the lid with duct tape.

  6. Roll it across the floor for about 15 minutes.

  7. Open both lids and check to see if it is frozen.

  8. If it is not frozen, reseal inner lid, add more ice and rock salt, and reseal outer lid.

  9. Roll across the floor for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until frozen.

  10. Remove frozen ice cream from the inner coffee can and place into bowl(s).

  11. Add your favorite toppings, and enjoy!

Tip: Roll the can across a kitchen floor, garage floor or a paved driveway where cleanup is easy. Sometimes the lids aren't sealed tightly and spills can happen.
