If you have a 1 pound. and a 3-pound coffee can, then you do have an ice cream maker. You can make homemade ice cream in a coffee can. This coffee can ice cream recipe is a lot of fun to make. It’s popular with scouts and other youth groups. Your kids will love to make it, too!

Coffee Can Ice Cream Ingredients

One-pound and three-pound metal or plastic coffee cans, washed and dried

Lots of ice cubes

Rock Salt

1 pint Half & Half

1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/3 cup sugar

Your favorite flavorings, fruit, nuts, M&Ms, Oreo cookies, etc.

Your favorite toppings- whipped cream, sprinkles, cherry, etc.

How to Make Coffee Can Ice Cream Directions

  1. Place Half & Half, vanilla extract, sugar, and flavorings into the one-pound coffee can.
  2. Put the lid on. Seal the lid with duct tape.
  3. Place the filled coffee can inside a three-pound coffee can.
  4. Fill the empty space by layering ice cubes and rock salt.
  5. Close and seal the lid with duct tape.
  6. Roll it across the floor for about 15 minutes.
  7. Open both lids and check to see if it is frozen.
  8. If it is not frozen, reseal the inner lid, add more ice and rock salt, and reseal the outer lid.
  9. Roll across the floor for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until frozen.
  10. Remove frozen ice cream from the inner coffee can and place it into a bowl(s).
  11. Add your favorite toppings, and enjoy!
